Suck city. Got a call from a job shop agency recruiter today. Voice message was "we have something that looks like a good match for your background". End of call it turned into needing to be currently active on their exact CAD systems and versions. And it didn't sound like finding an evaluation copy of the CAD program and getting up to speed on my own would cut it, nor would paying my own way through a week long training seminar.

Come July or sooner it is shaping up to be a long broke summer. And family is sort of limiting me to a 100 mile radius. Double suck city.

Buell M2 coming soon to a craigslist posting near you.

Oh well, such is life at times, "do you want fries with that?". Just practicing ....

I feel ya mike.
Had a phone interview the other day that went horrible.
As soon as they found out that my Solid Works experience was minimal they immediately started looking to end the interview
That seemed to be all they cared about.

I feel for you guys looking for work. I went into the military after college, then straight into my current job 16 years ago. This past year I ran into some difficulties and thought I might lose the job. Things worked out, but I was pretty worried at the time. My son graduated college a year and a half ago and has pretty much given up looking for work in his field. Currently he makes coffee at Starbucks.

It's a tough job market out there. Best of luck to you all.

at least you got an interview. i haven't heard anything yet but i'm not giving up hope. i do bentley autoplant but most places use pds software for what ever reason cause everything i've heard about it, it's a pain to use. and i wouldn't have any problem going somewhere on my own to learn but the market just isn't at that point again to get one of those jobs. mike and curtis, i don't know what you guys do but i've seen job postings for electrical and mechanical. i try to stay with piping design myself.

I start my new job on May 3rd. I'm feeling quite fortunate to have found a job within hours of losing my current position.

But I've always believed in being versatile. In this case it's helped me out tremendously.

We've got at least 6 Master's degrees and 2 PhD's working as messengers in their own cars, making pure commission with NO hourly pay.

They net an average of $500 a week.

I wonder if that's what they anticipated when they shelled out all the dough for 5-8 years of school...?

Funny, after months of being laid-off I post my first mention of being out of work today... Then today I finally get an offer.
I told them that I had to talk with another company (one I was about to interview with) but that I'll probably be taking the position.
So unless this other company decides to interview me and make an amazing offer over the weekend, I'll be a Field Engineer for Austal right here in Mobile!

Hang in there guys. Things will pick up.

There seems to be plenty of openings in Atlanta, at least a lot more there than down here around Mobile.
You might need to make some phone calls to let them know you're serious about relocating.
