I assume you're talking about the low fuel light?

If so my mileage is more accurate than the fuel light. I ran out of gas twice because it never came on so I no longer trust it. I don't even know if it works any longer.

IIRC there's about .6 gallons in the reserve once the light is supposed to come on so that would be about 30 miles by my MPG.

I just noticed you have an XB so my info. on an X1 may be null and void.

I need to type faster.

I made thirty two once, ran out a block before the gas station.

I made it fifty eight miles one other time, with a lot of creative coasting coming over the Cherohala.

I have an 03 Lightning with a race kit. So my mileage is probably less than one without the kit? My gas light comes on around 130-140 miles depending on if I have been dogging it or not I guess. The light came on this morning on my way to work and I found a gas station within 6 miles. Thankfully....

About 130 and the light comes on.
I've not gone more than 25 with the light on.

What bike? I'm good for about 50 miles on my XB, highest I've done on my 1125CR was 30 miles, I guesstimate high 30's before I'm walking.

I was pushing the bike to the nearest station at ~32 miles on my 12Ss. I try not to let it go past 20 anymore.

Don't listen to Froggy. He's one of those Supamilers (not to be confused with mile-highers).

2o max in an 1125 --> if light comes on at 150M
30 max in an XB --> if light comes on at 120M

That would be my experience, which includes pushing mine to a gas station once or twice.

By the way on my XB9 i figure 20 is a good number. However the light comes on I get gas. I typically try not to go over 10 miles on the light.

Froggy how many miles have you done on the Blast after you switched to reserve and how much on the tank before reserve?

on an XB, I wouldn't try to push it more than 30. I ran out once at 36 and another time at 31 so it depends on how you ride, speed wise.

On my Blast, I switch to reserve usually around 140-160 miles (70-80mpg). On better tanks I can get 170 miles (85mpg) before reserve. The "main" part of the tank is 2 gallons, I am not sure how big the reserve is, so I never calculated to see how far I can go but the furthest I've tried was 25 miles. I think I need to Google the specs now. : )

Well I have pushed over 25 miles on reserve. But I only get 120 miles before reserve.

I wounder if the valve changed.

Froggy, is your blast stock? I only get about 90 miles before I have to flip the switch to reserve.

I believe the blast has a 2.8 gallon capacity including the reserve (which is just what's left in the fuel lines).

My xb 12s dummy light comes on around 130 miles!
and tank is empty with 30 miles on reserve (speaking from experience)

But sometimes the light comes on much earlier when you ride a twisty road!

2.8 gallons? Good, I was guessing the reserve was half a gallon, good to know I have more. I should be good for at least 50 miles on the reserve. I am gonna buy a small gas can and find out the limit.

Yes, my bike is 100% stock. My only customizations are broken turn signals, bent levers, and bent footpeg bracket. : )

Oh and 90 miles before reserve means you are getting 45mpg. My 1125CR does better than that.

I don't know how you do it Froggy. I got 35 mpg from the last 2 tanks on my '08 XB12XT. Granted that's back road commuting with a warm up twice a day, but still...

there is a true reserve with different length tubes for the getting fuel from the tank.

FYI: there is alot of fuel that you can't get to when the tank is on the bike unless you really lean the bike over to make it slosh over the the fuel valve.

Froggy weighs in a 62 pounds, and is built like a cardboard cut out of himself. He goes so far as to fill the corrugated holes on the windward edge of his likeness and sharpens it like a knife blade. He is also known to only ride down hill with a tail wind, usually with the engine off at anything above eight miles per hour.

Dang, Frog, you do better than me. I get 60 to 62 in straight city riding with no freeway and 30 miles reserve. I get about 75 on the freeway doing 70 mph.

Are you riding for mileage? Is your commute a mix of freeway and urban?

If I pay close attention I've gotten 65 in the city

I've often wanted to run through a tank of gas TRYING to get the best mileage possible, just to see.

But then I start riding, and immediately remember how much damn fun it is to ride not for fuel economy.

You forgot the 45+PSI, tucking in behind the fairing as much as possible, short shifting, and drafting off trucks : )

Oh yea an old pic of my XB - I was at 37.6 miles with the F counter, and it still was flickering on and off. I guess putting the bike on the kickstand splashed the sensor enough to trigger it to shut off when I took this photo. I was at a gas station so I filled it up, 245.7 mi. 4.02 US gal 61.12 US MPG. This wasn't even close to my best tank. : )

Rainman - Depends on my mood, sometimes I do go for mileage, thats when I get 85mpg on my Blast or 75 on the XB or 54 on the 1125CR, but riding normal isn't much lower. Today I just popped my reserve on my Blast at 149 miles, not really trying much.

My commute is about 35 miles each way, around 30 of which are highway, and I do about 4 miles with the engine off on my return home loop and about only a mile on the to work loop.
