The cheapest "iPhone Plan" add-on is $30 The cheapest smartphone plan add-on is $30
I forget the name of it, there is a cheaper plan at $15 a month that you can get on non-iphones. One of my friends had that plan on his iphone, and ATT caught onto it and jacked up his bill when they "upgraded" his plan to a iphone data plan. Not to mention you can't opt out of a data plan and use it wifi only.

The iPhone will now multi-task.
Its amazing, it took them years do to something even basic wrist watches could do for decades! Whats next, multi button mice? Flash support? Letting you pick a wallpaper?

I believe Google wants to standardize as many phones as possible on Android 2.1 (except those older phones whose hardware just won't be able to handle it).
Microsoft is doing the same with Windows Mobile 7, hopefully it all comes out good with more stable apps plus better hardware.

I am an apple fanboi Having to deal with AT&T made me not get the iphone. My next phone will be based on Android (I am primarly a *nix geek... )..
Have you seen the Nokia N900? It runs on custom Linux called Maemo 5. I have a N800 wifi only, it rocks, but its showing its age being 4 years old. Oh, it supports Flash!

Otherwise, it's a CDMA limitation.
I never knew about that limitation till someone pointed it out to me a few months back, as I have never needed to browse while on the phone. I am sure it could be useful though, like look up movie times while discussing seeing a movie tonight with someone. Oh well, can't win them all
Ahhh well.... you're right Steve, I do need to be on wifi to surf and talk.... UNLESS: I use Skype. I have a Skype account so I can call any phone, not just other skype phones, and I can indeed do everything at once. Sort of a roundabout approach but it works.
I just picked up the HTC Hero on Sprint's network, the Hero has the Android OS. So far so good, I had been using Windows based smartphones for the last 3 years and needed a change.
For Verizon the latest Android OS is V2.1 and for Sprint it is V1.6. I was told they are basically the same software, just different numbers for different carriers.
Actually reminds me of Harley Davidson advertising. I almost choked when I saw one of their adcopy that stated Harley Davidson was a "leader in motorcycle anti lock systems."
WTF? THEY WERE THE LAST TO THE PARTY!! In fact, the ONLY reason they did it was because the CHP decided they were ONLY going to buy authority bikes with ABS (Thank you, BMW)!!
When I first started riding in 1982, Harley made such a big deal out of the Evo engine with "ALUMINUM HEADS!!" You mean, just like what EVERY OTHER MOTORCYCLE MANUFACTURER has been using for the past decade or more??
There does seem to be an awful lot in common between Harley and Apple, now that I think of it. Quite a few "Mac Freaks" won't buy anything else because it isn't made by Apple... sounds familiar...
When I first got into computers in the early 80's, I would have sworn that Apple had the best product for the home... because Apple won the contracts to supply all the schools in my area with computers. Of course they wanted to indoctrinate young users and future programmers. The first computer I actually owned was an Atari 800 XL. When I began to compare the two, I began to realize just how much more powerful the Atari was vs. the Apple. Everything for the Apple was super expensive, and for the Atari it was all relatively inexpensive. Then I got my Mega ST4 and it ran Mac, IBM/DOS, Atari, and Amiga/Commodore software without batting an eye.
Then I got an 80186 clone and I realized that Apple was going to be taking a back seat in the business world. Nothing that exists behind a solidly locked and closed door is going to see the light of day as a viable business solution.
Not much has changed. Apple does things the Apple way. Their stuff works fine, but it took a very long time to get away from this screen:
By the time they jumped over that hurdle, Windows was well established on the scene.
IMHO, the GEM desktop was the bees' knees. Of course the GUI was invented by Xerox, as were Google's search algorithms and a bevy of other techonlogical marvels that everyone's been getting away with using for many years.
My cousin is a wig over at the big X... he says some bigtime lawsuits are brewing, should be interesting to watch in the coming years.
much like apple Steve is going to take a few posts to mount a comeback LOL
A comeback to what? I was just correcting some ignorance. If you don't like that, I'd suggest you do your homework before posting false info
I'm not that much of an Apple person. I think their computers are overpriced compared to comparable PC stuff.
I currently have 2 Macs, 2 Windows 7 boxes, and 1 Linux box running here. They each serve a purpose.
I think the new iPad is a colossus waste of money. An overgrown iPod touch starting at $500? No thanks. I'll wait for the Microsoft courier devices. Or even the HP tablet.
If you don't like that, I'd suggest you do your homework before posting false info
If you see I retracted what I said. That I got from information from ATT directly. They changed their price structure after all the BS unlimted talk stuff.
