I had my first one for a year, my second for 6 months, and now the 3GS about 8 months. I've never had a battery go bad nor do I think I'd keep the phone long enough for the battery to go bad. Battery life is going to go quick on any phone when constantly surfing the web while listening to music with the brightness all the way up. I keep my brightness at about 40% most of the time (verter on my eyes anyway), and if I'm only surfing the web, I get about 2-3 hours. If only listening to the iPod, I can get at least 5 hours. Battery life was never something I worried about.

Jaimec,

you say att is the worst yet they are the only provider that gets signal in many places in the region I live in. Me and my wife tried verizon before converting to at&t and never had signal when visiting family that do not live in side city limits.

Firebolt: *I* didn't say that. A nationwide polling of users said that.

I've had signals with my Verizon phones where NO other service had a signal. I've also been able to make and receive calls reliably with only a single "bar" showing on the phone.

There are only a couple of exceptions that come to mind... last summer we vacationed in the Berkshires in Massachusetts. None of my friends with Verizon, AT&T, Sprint OR Nextel were able to get any kind of a signal. Turns out the only service in the area was T-Mobile!

The other is inside my office building. There are "Dead Spots" throughout the building for my Verizon reception. There seem to be more dead spots for AT&T but you are most likely to get reception if you have a Sprint phone.

The irony here is that my office phone is on the Sprint Network (Blackberry 8830). My favorite restaurant is right next door to a Sprint Store, and there is absolutely NO Sprint Service there. Must be tough trying to sell the phones from that location...

After spending the better part of a week working with ADC/LGC and Lucent/Alcatel trying to get an ATT 3G microcell up and running I'd NEVER have anything to do with ATT.
They are a mess internally. I started on this project in November, it was suppose to go live the first week of January.
It's still not up. We were on hold for over 3 months due to the lack of a 48V DC power supply! As were about 15 other installs in the area.
They still don't have the entire system up at the new MN Twins Target Field, the home opener was yesterday...

Our internal DAS (Distributed Antenna System) has Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile (in a couple of weeks) and ATT.
The others are a joy to work with. Not so ATT. The local crew is great, the ATM provisioning and back end stuff is a disaster. Might by why they have so many coverage and stability problems.

YMMV

I had a really hard time choosing between a Blackberry Storm 2 and the Droid when I upgraded. I chose the storm 2 because I am a big fan of the blackberry. Jerry can upgrade in August and I think he will upgrade to the Droid so we can try it. Then if he doesn't like it, he can go back to his curve and I can try the Droid. He wouldn't like the storm 2 because of the total touch screen. He likes the keyboard option. I like the Storm 2 I have. I have had absolutely no problems with it, but then again, I am not into the hacking you guys are.

Verizon is the ONLY provider I've ever used that has never made an error on my bill. ATT was the worst in that regard

One advantage of the Iphone over the 'droid phones is accessories.

This one in particular has been quite useful for me.

Dude, you needed a third party to figure that out!?!

ANYWAY

ATT BLOWS!!!!!!

I had been with them for almost a decade. I was thinkin about getting a smart phone and asked for the same deal they were giving new customers.
They said no.
I joined the in laws family plan and got a Samsung Droid for less than 100 and everything for 40 bucks a month,

I also dropped all my ATT services at my house as well...

You can get similar accessories for just about any phone. Hell, because they don't have to go running to Apple and get a license, the selection is better for even low production phones.

Please find me a water proof remote control for an android phone.

I put my iPhone in my pocket, tank bag, or top case, and can use my iJet remote that is velcroed to my left switchgear to change tracks, pause, and control the volume.

There are others, but that was the first thing I found in 2 minutes of looking.

A.) It's not waterproof
B.) It wont fit under a properly fitted helmet
C.) Kind hard to reach the controls even if it DID fit under the helmet.

Try again Froggy : )

Steve, which iPhone do you have? If you have the original headphones, they have most ofthose controls in the button in the mic. The 3GS has all of those functions and more inline of the headphones. Volume up and down buttons, and click mic button once for play, once again for pause, twice for song forward, thrice for song backward. If you hold down the mic button, it activates voice command. Press again to cancel. Also, if you have an incoming call, press the mic button once to answer, again to hang up.

Jamie, I got my Windows phone in a waterproof Ram mount Aquabox, it works fantastic. The touch screen isn't really usable due to the way the clear part works, but it lets me see whos calling and its linked by bluetooth to my Zumo 550 and Scala Rider Q2 headset so its really non issue.

To imply that iPhone has more accessories than Droid is really sort of ridiculous.

It could be argued based on the number of iPod specific speaker docking gizmos that use the plug on the bottom of the iPod.

That being said, when you step into the world of Bluetooth there are literally thousands of devices that work on both iPhone and Droid. The wireless remote dogtag with earbuds thing I've seen people using is one example.

Accessories are not at issue here, since both units obviously interface very well with a myriad of readily available devices.

My Droid is very user friendly, the service is very good, and I personally like the device better than I like the iPhone. My brother has the latest one, and he's even leaning over the fence in my direction. When faced with early termination fees, it's going to take quite a lot for an AT&T customer to jump ship simply for a new device whose benefits may not warrant the near $500 expense for closing out their account to start up with Big Red. (genius ad campaign btw)

For the last two years I've been frustrated with how much better my brother's iPhone was compared to my LG Voyager. My web browser sucked donkey nuggets. In two years I only ever found 4 websites that worked well on that browser. I even thought about changing to AT&T just for the phone after my contract was up because my device was so limited. I had seen Android-based phones and wasn't really impressed, but then The Droid hit the streets and my buddy got one first day they came out.

I was incredibly impressed. More so than when I first tried out the iPhone. This phone plays music loud enough to be heard clearly at some distance. The screen is as beautiful as the iPhone screen. The touch screen works as well as the iPhone screen. So now that particular hurdle is behind us. 16GB microSD card preinstalled. Slideout QWERTY board. 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth A2DP, 5Mp camera with flash, open source OS, easily rootable and unbrickable (meaning easy to fix if it bricks on you, not impossible to brick), scalable processor and replaceable battery.

And here's a big plus: The sound quality is very, very good. My bill is always 100% accurate. The one time a customer service person misunderstood me, they corrected it with no arguments, just a single email from me and they called me to confirm it was corrected and gave me a $10 credit in the online store for the inconvenience.

So everyone please, enjoy your gizmos and electronic whatnots. I'm sticking with Verizon and my Droid. iPhone is pretty good but it's kind of last week now, and I think the iFailpad speaks for itself.

I just ordered my Motorola Droid, I'll get it Wednesday and by the weekend, I'll have some first hand experience with it. I saw one at the Verizon store with the 2.1 upgrade and it was great but it belonged to the salesman and he said that it has not been released to the public yet so I'll have to wait on that upgrade.

It's been released. It's rolling out now, 200,000 phones a day. If you're impatient, though, you can download the upgrade from Google's site (link in an earlier posting of mine) and install it yourself.

I am another one of those former Alltel customers. My experience with Verizon has not been particularly positive either. In fact, I had so many problems with my Verizon home service I cancelled it.

Shortly after the buyout of Alltel, my daughter's phone, which is on my plan, started having problems. We took the phone to a Verizon store and they told us her phone needed a firmware update. However, they had not purchased the equipment to do a firmware update on my daughter's phone, as it was an Alltel only model. So, they said she would have to buy a new phone and sign a new 2 year contract. She decided to go T-Mobile instead.

I don't know what I will do when my contract is up. My Verizon signal seems good. Much better than my son's iPhone. I currently have a Blackberry Curve. It has been a good and reliable phone, but it is not the best for surfing the web. I will look at the Droid and iPhone pretty hard when the time comes. I will also see what T-Mobile has to offer. For now, however, I will stay with my Blackberry and Verizon until the contract is over.

So the truth is silly?

I just bought a Philips clock radio last week that has an iPod/iPhone dock. My home theater system in the bedroom has an iPod dock that works with the iPhone. My Pioneer receiver in the living room has an iPod/iPhone dock.

You stated later on EXACTLY WHY the iPhone has more accessories. It shares the same docking port as the iPod.

I'm no Apple fanboi, just stating the facts. I think Apple's "We know what you want", and the sheep that follow their hype is ridiculous. The iPad is probably the most over-hyped and under-delivered tech item in recent history.

The iPhone is *FAR* from perfect. But it does work for me. I just wish it had a user replaceable battery and multi-tasking.

AT&T service works pretty well in the Milwaukee area as well. And with a soon to be released Uverse streaming App, it'll be even better to be an AT&T customer : )

uverse is a joke. They sell it as fiber optic service and they deliver it through your phone line. That's DSL.

My Droid doesn't dock with anything. Instead, it links wirelessly to my car stereo and my home theater. When I'm near my pc, I can flick my phone screen up on my monitor. What would I need a clock radio for? How many more boom boxes do you really need?

You're right the iPhone is far from perfect. The droid is a lot closer, and it just got more so with my 2.1 update.
