I have had a pet rabbit perpetually since my first memories as a child. They're really great animals.

In fourth grade I gave an oral report on rabbits. I brought in my Dutch rabbit Bugsy for everyone to pet and play with. I also served rabbit a l'orange. The girls were mostly horrified at this, and the boys scarfed it down.

Go figure. My current rabbit's name is Mr. Funnybunny. We rescued him from a rabbit farm that closed down, they were going to euthanize over 3000 rabbits. Mr. Funnybunny has his lot number tattooed inside his ear. He's my little holocaust survivor!

I need to see if my boa prefers rabbits over rats.

Depends on the length of the snake. 10 feet or better, I'd say it's time to move up to rabbits. Pinkies and mice up to 18 inches, and then rats from 18 inches to 6 or 7 feet. Guinea pigs would be my choice between 7 to 10 feet.

He's about 7 ft, right now. Probably won't get much longer. Hadn't thought about guinea pigs.

I think you'll find they like guinea pigs a lot. They make fast jerky motions that catch the snake's eyesight and triggers the instinct to strike.

Rats and rabbits just sit there, my old boa Alexander the Snake used to get bored with them. He would slam down two guinea pigs at a time!

lol. I only buy my rats frozen, and thaw them to feed my snakes. Much safer for the snake. I know that sounds kinda funny, but it's true. Rats can do major damage.

your snake will eat dead animals?

Mine never would. As an interesting change, you could try putting about 5 inches of lukewarm water in a kiddie pool and drop in some large goldfish. My Alexander loved bobbing for fishies!

I have five snakes, and none of them have any problems eating pre-killed prey items. They're all captive born and bred so that may have something to do with it. I'd have to get some Koi and a pond to do the fish bobbing thing.
