I can't imagine how much work went into that beautiful machine and how sick those who worked on it have to be. Reading the article made me mad all over again. Just when I'd come to terms with it. |

>>>>You know, possibly the best part of this whole thing is it REALLY has to torque off some of the tight-asses at HD. None of what HD did was crafted to make Erik or any of the 200 folks who worked at Buell Motorcycle Company happy. I'd be hard pressed to see where Erik or anyone else has any obligation, in reciprocity, to act solely to make anyone at Harley-Davidson happy. Erik would never, unlike some of the folks at HD, do anything JUST for the purpose of screwing with somebody. Over the years we all gain some things . . . loose others. Erik's integrity has been steady all along. He's having a blast, working about 15 hours a day and playing the cards he was dealt to the best of his ability. I suspect he'll do wonderfully . . . call it a hunch. The article will appear in the print version and, depending on two factors, could be a doozie. I know kinda where it started, I'll be eager to see where it ended up at press time. |

It took me .003 seconds to decide to spend $8 on the subscription. This is a fantastic read! Steve A. (the scholar and gentleman) did great in his reporting drawing on the history of the relationship Between Buell and FU HD over the years to get to the state of affairs as we know them today. Most things were as I suspected. Others were new to me. Specifically, that Wandell has such limited understanding of the motorcycling world. He evidently only lives in the world of spread sheets. I don't think his experience is going to fix the apparent addiction at FU HD to project cost over runs as evidenced by the Blast and XB motor development. Reading the Barracuda article was interesting. It is a great evolution of the 1125 platform that showcases what Elves can do when not chained to a stump. Since the remaining elves are now free, I am confident an even better rendition of the B2 will come to market sooner rather than later. |

I just down loaded and read though the whole article . I am even more pissed at Harley (SPIT) Davidson than before. Through all the projects, Blast,XB and the 1125, the failures were on Harley's part. From Ford, One product, one team, what bullshit. Wandell got that idea from FORD. HD I am really mad now! |

Hey, I finally got to see some of my parts on that bike!! I designed the tooling for the chain guards, and a few other parts you can't see under the fairings. In fact, the molds are still sitting in the back of my shop... |

Wandell IS representative of Hardley's new target demographic: Complete ignorance of motorcycles until the age of 59. |

Finely the truth comes out about what happened behind closed doors and now I hate HD even more or at least the CEO and board of directors (douche bags). I hope and pray that at the end of the non compete contract EBR finds some much needed free thinking backers (BRP??) and proceeds to rise up and crush HD. I'm not dumb enough to think that HD will ever fall (thou I would love to see the CEO douche bag fail miserably) I just want it to be shown to the world that HD was the problem and they closed Buell because they were stupid and scared.

By switching between 3 computers, I finally managed to read the whole article AND one other item of note- Peter Egan's column. Good news! Egan finally bought a Uly (a 2009 X)! He also went by the factory and bought a few things at the liquidation sale. NOW if my print subscription issue will just show up... |

As promised, here is a merged PDF with both the 'Demise of Buell' and 'Barracuda 2' articles: Link to bootlegged copyrighted article removed. I must admit, I cried a little when I read the 'Demise' article. The fact that Buell, the man and the company, has succeeded at all is a tribute to countless amounts of courage and determination. Oh and one more thing I was just amazed at all the different versions of all the bikes that were in the works that got killed for dumb ass reasons. I would have loved to ride one of those "diablo's" and at least seen the others. GOD I'M PISSED How many Amazing bikes were lost because HD. I just want to choke the crap out of Wandell...douche bag. HD made life tough for Buell. If you think about it, the fact a small American Sportbike company was able to win the DSB title on a shoestring budget is amazing!! HD missed their chance to be a (small) part of American motorcycles that could have been icons for the current and next generation of riders, just as their big twins were icons for folks that were around in the 60s and 70s. I wonder if Wandell has any idea how many American riders HD has alienated in the last year. I seriously doubt it. My 1125R is probably my last full on sportbike. My next new bike will probably be a tourer or sport tourer. It could have been a HD, but now if I ever buy an American Tourer it will be a Victory. (Message edited by tpoppa on March 23, 2010) |
