It's down to $213 in the USA at one of the cycle places. I will tame as much of the jello as is possible, just waiting for the snow to go away so I can play with it on the paintshaker again.
If you record in the 1280x720/60p mode (R3) the jello will be less. Also on bright sunny days it will be less.
I'm also trying to keep an eye on the Sony Bloggie (mhs-pm5) because I think I could extend the imager with wires and mount it in tighter places like inside my helmet. Yes trying to be covert so that the cops don't see the camera and wait for any little thing to pull me over. Nothing says squid out doing illegal stuff like a camera stuck to the top of your helmet.
Damn, when the wife asked what i wanted for christmas i gave her 2 ideas, Zumo 550 or the GoProHD.....i got the zumo which i do love, but you just made me want the GoPro all over again. Thanks Barker!
Yeah the Red is taking a beating because of the rolling shutter. I had a demo of the new Sony NX5u last Friday and asked a very pointed question about that, it still has this problem even though the sensors are kind of on a diagonal.
And Kodak owns a patent on a global shutter for CMOS sensors, strangely Kodak does not list a single sensor with a global shutter.
There are supposed to be a bunch of whiz-bang features added to the GoPro in the new firmware if it ever comes out. Last word is that they won't even let the beta testers have this firmware so don't expect it too soon. #1 problem is that many cards do not work, including the cards purchased directly from GoPro. Right now these seem to be only 16GB and 32GB cards. Easiest way to find out is to slap in a card and set for R3 mode, record. If it makes it all the way to the end of the battery it should be fine. The problem seems to come up when the camera splits the file at the 4GB file size limit of the FAT32 disk format. It happens always in R3 and in some of the other modes.
Also there is a problem where the shutter button rattles. This is a design flaw and next time I open mine I'm going to find a better switch that will let it work correctly. For now I just put a couple layers of teflon tape on the back to make the button a little thicker. It won't last forever but it is worth the time for now.
One of the future features is a one button record, I'll probably tear the shutter button cover out when this is possible since you will only need the shutter button to set up the camera.
Another serious flaw is that when you take to camera rated to 180 under water into the water, everything goes out of focus. Some people bought it specifically for underwater use and are very disappointed.
If you decide that you need to put a filter on the GoPro HD, I can tell you that there is vignetting with a 46mm step up adapter machined to attach to the GoPro case. I think a 52mm would allow a single screw in filter when you are shooting in 1080 mode. The only place I have found a 27 to 52 step up ring is ebay and I haven't purchased it yet. I did attach a 46mm ring to the case to determine that the corners really are cut off, and that's before adding a filter. I don't have any screw in filters to check farther than that.
+1 on the noted issues, but the price is not bad for what you get.
Where is my gopro "back" viewfinder?
Back @ the ranch I use a Sony HXR-MC1 ($3K) and the Iconix 2K ($40k). Those cams offer far superior images, but the GoProHD is far easier, lighter, faster to set-up, cheaper, more waterproof, wider-angled and CHEAPER!
You really think long and hard before strapping on the Iconix as a POV.
I'm on the cheaper side now dealing with educational support, but I have dealt with many different broadcast level cameras including factory service training on Hitachi tube cameras, Hitachi ccd cameras, Ikegami ccd cameras, and most recently DVCPro camcorders. We are looking at replacing our eight JVC DV5000 and four DV5100 cameras with something that does not use tapes and the NX5 was one of the ones we were looking at. Probably going to end up with JVC HM700 because we like the "full" body better and it is CCD so no jello and straight vertical lines when you pan across a doorway. We are using Avid Media Composer (software version) with 20 licenses and an old Lanshare. Also FCP and DVD Studio Pro.
Pinnacle was horrible junk before Avid bought it, it is still horrible junk now. Try Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum (around $90 with free demo). Also try the Edius software by GrassValley (Canopus).
You may need to convert it to some other codec using something like avidemux (free).
If none of that works google should provide answers based on Video and 7D and editing.
I have the Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate 14 and it cuts everything I have thrown at it. I have a Contour HD and it works great for it. I have imported analog from Hi 8 and VHSC and cut with it as well.
All good.
I have an extra copy unopened with two theme pack DVD's if anyone is interested.
Not even if it was free. I gave our sales rep at Avid an earful when they bought that company. They then had the guts to release a "professional" version of the consumer Liquid application... It died a horrible death. Our local PBS for some unknown reason bought Liquid, the guy that pushed them to get it was fired and there is nothing but complaints about the software.
People say Edius will take pretty much anything, and it has a demo. The Sony Vegas product line also has demos for each title. Avid may even have a demo of Media Composer.
For simple chopping I use avidemux (free) but I have no idea if it works with 7D files.
Vegas might handle it but I'm not sure and my demo has expired. VLC will convert to something else if you need to convert and is FREE. QT Pro is only $30 and might do the conversion.
Today's Sellout.Woot is Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Version 12 Software with Complete Training DVD for $39.99 + $5 shipping. This deal will expire in about 24 hours from time of this post.
Killboy did some thing similar Glad you knew what I was talking about. I wish I could find the vid I'm talking about. His set up was obviously on a pole, you could see much more of the bike. But the effect is similar.
