Keep up the will.. It is all about the will. If you truly want to quit. You are done. If you need help, more power. I know after 30 yrs of smoking with a few breaks here and there one break for as long as 4 years. I'm done, no more, period. I want to see my grandkids graduate, and not on an oxygen bottle. Good luck!! Stay strong, make it thru 48 hrs., then a week, then a month.. Drink LOTS of water and stay away from caffeine..

Whatever it takes...do it! I am smoke free for one month. The bad thing is it took an 11 day hospital stay for chronic bronchitis and a severe lung infection to make me get serious. My blood oxygen level was only 70 percent when I went to the ER.

No pain is as bad as the feeling of not being able to breathe...At this point I am doing pretty well with therapy, meds, and exercise...my oxygen level is at 98% which is a good sign..and my lung capacity is better than it has been in years...the occupational therapist says she will release me today...the physical therapist says maybe friday...my next doctor visit is in a month...I will be mighty glad to get back to work..and back to riding.

Hang in there Woody...and beat it.

Cigarettes are a funny thing. I myself have never touched 'em. My grandfather on the other hand has smoked filterless since he was 13, he's now 84. 12 years ago he had a heart attack, family all knew his lungs would be black as coal. Not the case, doctors said that he had some of the cleanest lungs they'd ever seen for that age. WTH!

I congratulate you on quitting, your health can only go up from here.

It all depends how active you are, and how efficient your body is at cleaning out the crap. I smoke, and can still run down a lot of people on foot. I can still run a mile in under 7 minutes too.

He must have the most efficient body ever because he's about as active as a stump: )

He looks like Yoda, only white and a little taller.

I believe he's the reason I've never drank. When I was younger he'd get dog drunk and beat up on my Grandma and mom would have to go and break it up. Sad. He used to play a mean bluegrass fiddle. I have tapes from the 60's of his band playing on the radio. Sorry for the hijack. Back to quitting smoking.

Does he roll his own with regular tobacco?

Thanx guys : ) roughly 2 1/2 days now .

e-cigs aren't exactly like smoking a cig . actually they're a bit of a pita , however kicking a 40 year habit isn't easy and having it when i get the urge is a godsend .

been to the forums . found http://www.vapersforum.com/ to be the most active . got some new juices on order .

besides the health reasons , cigs have become ridiculously expensive !!!! here in mass they range from $7.75 - 8.65 . at the rate i was smoking that's $6,000 a year !!!! yikes

shopping for a new motor for the boston whaler i just towed home today . more incentive to quit.

Cheers Woody

Spidey, it was Camels for decades, he'd buy regular cigarettes and break the filters off. He's not hit a lick at anything for years and Grandma makes him buy the generics now.

well that supports one of my theories!

I have a few guys I know that are in there 60's 70's been smokin non filters forever no issues.

One rolls his own.

I postulate that the Filters as well as the chems they now add to cigs are what is causing the major issues you see now-a-days vs back in the day when non filters and pure tobacco was the norm...

they also vary the nicotine level in order to make it harder to quit.

I smoked from 18 to 34, with a few breaks. I have been smoke free for 2 years, 3 months now. I do use nicorette gum and it keeps me from smoking, but now I am addicted to the d*mn gum and it is a lot harder to keep lit!
