I'm thinking about buying some clip on handle bars for my xb12ss. Not sure if I'll like them or not. Does anyone know anything about running these bars on the xb?
There's been a few threads about them. Most go with Clubman style bars, as the install is much more straight forward and the setup is significantly cheaper.
I was also wondering about universal clip ons though. Something like these:
I don't know what kind of mods would be needed to fit them.
Go clubman bars, the set up itself can be insanely cheap to do, and if you don't like it you lost very little. They are very comfy, and aggressive at the same time. My whole set up was under $50.00.
I love the PE risers but I am unhappy with the anodization on my new fat bar risers. they are purple now after only a few weeks. but the product itself is great. very well done I will be buying a shifter and brake lever from them soon.
I am pretty sure that 1" wont give you enough clearance over the top of your forks. also consider the Cr clubman bars. I went from ustorques set up to the Cr bars and like the set up quite a bit.
Okay, what I will do, when I do decide if i go with the cr or clubman bars, I will just call up PE and tell them what bike I have and what bars I'll run and they can tell/make me a clamp/riser for me? Sorry I have a lot of question... I just don't want to do something that won't work.
there is a cheep way to do the rise with another clamp longer bolts, 1" spacers from lows and 4 washers to shim the bottom side of the clamp (nearest the tank) (pictured) but it has a little flex to it and I didn't like it and swapped out for the risers later. I don't know if I have a picture installed with risers but I'll look if you want.
I have both setups and still don't know my favorite yet. with the bikemasters the handling was very predictable and linear, I actually liked the feedback better than the CR bars. very stable and light feeling in the corners. super flick-able and best of all the nose stayed down. but they were so low that my hands would cramp up after 2 tanks and my back after 4. if I took 10 minutes or so at each fill up I did ok but not great. the Cr bars are much better in that aspect. and I don't hit my hands on the frame during low speed maneuvers.
riser to make it work, obviously I used the fat bar combo. beyond bars and grips everything is included that you need. drill your hole and re-route your line and you are good to go.
I like them a lot but if you don't like the firebolt position you wont like these.
the good and the bad about the Cr clubmans is finding a set taken off of a 1125Cr. sometimes there are none for sale and other times there are 3 or four at a time. also try dealers for a set. I picked up mine from a dealer that did the swap to a bike and picked mine up for next to nothing.
yeah i just posted a thread in the want ad for cr bars. if you find any...send me a pm! or if you like I'm on facebook... search for corey grim
i have pro taper bars on my my bike now, dirt bars, haha.. but they are more aggressive than the stock bars. i'm just looking for something that is more aggressive than what i have now. I didn't want a firebolt at first cause i was use to riding dirt bikes and i wasn't use to that style of riding(leaning forward).
I did this several years ago before the PE risers and CR bars were invented.
The bars are Tomasselli vintage adjustable clubmans.
Riser is a modified old Joker machine riser set for a Honda dirt bike.
Mounting plate was designed by me and made by local machinist.
This is doing it the hard way, expensive, but it all works very well. There were not many alternatives at the time, and I did not like the look of the Crossroads bars.
