I'm thinking about getting a helmet mounted intercom but there is a concern. I have a very quiet helmet and I've noticed that basically all of these devices have a rather large box that you need to stick on the side of the helmet. It appears aerodynamics is the very last thing that these manufacturers or thinking about when they design these. Picking up wind noise is the last thing I want to do.

I'm looking at the BlueAnt Interphone as it seems to be one of the top devices that has A2DP ability. Yes I'll probably be pushing music to it from an A2DP device, not really concerned about phone interface because few things are important enough to interrupt me while I'm riding.

Helmet is a Schuberth so it has pockets for the speakers already inside and they will go in behind the liner to help keep them in place. Motorcycle is currently an XB9R which as many know leaves you mostly right out in the air.

I should add that yes I did do a search, but bumping an archived thread does not make it come back to the top.

The scala rider looks like a good system, the battery life is a couple of hours shorter than the Blueant Interphone. The Scala has two speakers vice one of the Blueant.

I have never used the Scala Rider system but I really do not see anything wrong with it and people I have talked to liked it.

Lynn and I use the Blueant Interphone so we can talk while riding our separate bikes. The New Interphone (F4 maybe) gets about twice the range. I do not know what the Scala Range is but the setup I have (first generation Interphone) seems to be around 400 meters.

Both seem to mount the same way.

The Scala Rider system maybe cheaper in price than the blueant.

A quite helmet is a must but I found that using ear plus we can hear and talk to each other at highway speeds (75mph) with no problem. I closed all the vents and it works great.

Lynn and I use the Scorpion EXO 400 because of all the great reviews and I should have read the manual because I think I had every vent open during the test run and could not hear anything above 35 mph.... It is amazing how it works now. It sounds like you already have a great helmet.

BTW: I never used the helmet without the blueant so I do not know if there is increased wind noise or not. The only wind noise seems to come from the face shield pivot mounting area.

Here ya go... I listen to Motorcycle Radio Podcast and they have a guy in California at the M1 testing facility who uses the older model Scala that the G4 is taking over, the Scala Q2.

You never even know he is on the bike. You can only hear the bike when he really gets on it..

Here is the show about 3 weeks after HD canned Buell and they are talking about the whole deal and he is riding an 2010 1125r!

Yeah the production of the show is lame and they use the stupid voice over guy, and everyone is on delay.... but it gets me by during work hours.

I have the Camos BTS200. No complaints. It has A2DP technology which gives stereo sound.
Conversation with passenger over rides music.
Phone over rides conversation.
If your phone/device accepts remote control, the headset can control music, initiate phone call, end phone call. Good sound, decent wind noise canceling.
Like I said, No real complaints.
Newer devices are available now from Camos. I've had these a couple of years.

Check it out for yourself. See what you think.

The model I was looking at is the F4 interphone which is a stereo device.

No way I am buying a new helmet right now.

And as I said, phone interface is the least of my concerns. Music and bike to bike would be the only real concerns I have. The biggest part of that concern is if it will add wind noise to my helmet since it is a big block hanging out in the stream. I've had helmets that had massive wind noise, not willing to go backwards from the quiet that I have now.

If your referring to the Camos unit, it's not a helmet, just a bluetooth device.

the BTS300 is more suited for bike to bike. (with another BTS300)

I have the Blue Ant Interphone. It works very well in the Rider to rider at all speeds I've been at. Starts to get to hard to hear when in phone mode at highway speeds. But obviously you don't care about that. Haven't used it to play music or anything but I love it for intercom kind of thing. It is also very good at cutting wind noise out unless you are going quite fast.

We use the blueant interphone. It has about a 1/4 mile range, lasts about 4hrs and the price isn't too bad. We have two sets and have the bikes set up so we can charge one set while using the other set, or when we stop for lunch plug them in to get charged. I like that they are not VOX. The sound is clear. We tried the Chatter box before and it's just too big and bulky.

F_skinner, I am holding my Scorp 400 exo in my hand with the front facing me. With the top middle vent button slid all the way to my right(but the left on the helmet) . Is that closed? tanks

I think that is all the way open.... The opposite way is closed. I am going to look for the instructions that came with these things. (I bought two since they were on sale one for me, and one for Lynn)...

I like them a lot and I would say they are the best low end helmet I have ever used.

yeah I bought two for me and the wife. Can't find the manual either. With the button to my left or the helmet's right it looks like a visible hole is open. I'm sure I have been riding with all the vents open. After a good long day of riding my eyes are dried up like prunes. let me know what you find out at your leisure. tanks

Sorry for yet another Hijack. Tankhead, the open close positions are not in the instructions and they are kind of flipped on their web site but here is the useful tidbit I found.

From their WebSite: "remember this: RRO= Rider's Right is Open. In other words, slide the vent to your right while the helmet is on and the vent will be open. Slide it toward your left and it will be closed. Half way is half open and half closed."

Hope that helps... Frank

Yes, I have tried the G4. The Q2 are coming with the A2DP chip in a few weeks. This will increase the range of the units. The prices will not increase.
The G4's have a better sound(they are louder and stereo)
Come by and I'll let you try mine.
