Is this really "change" to be proud of?
quote:Obama Now Selling Judgeships for Health Care Votes? Obama names brother of undecided House Dem to Appeals Court. BY John McCormack March 3, 2010 6:15 PM Tonight, Barack Obama will host ten House Democrats who voted against the health care bill in November at the White House; he's obviously trying to persuade them to switch their votes to yes. One of the ten is Jim Matheson of Utah. The White House just sent out a press release announcing that today President Obama nominated Matheson's brother Scott M. Matheson, Jr. to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. . . .
Who could ever have imagined that BO might bring such blatant Chicago style politics to the White House? Well besides me of course. |

Big O's days are numbered, and I think he knows it. I wonder if that was the Dems plan all along: just get someone, anyone in while they controlled the show, and ram through as much junk as they could in those 4 years. The "president" would be expendable, a brave sacrifice to further their party agenda. Not that the agenda thing is any different during anyone's term, but at least they usually try to keep the President's reputation in tact and all the dirty deeds behind closed doors. This bunch is barely trying. ~SM |

What's sad is when these payola deals are brought to light instead of feeling shameful and working to be more on the up and up, they double down. "Hey, look at how much bad press the Nebraska and Louisiana back room deals brought us. Let's do it again but bigger!" These ten are going to hold him up for everything but the kitchen sink. Either that or he has a Powerpoint presentation of pictures of these ten naked with goats. I would cheer the implosion of the progressive movement were it not for the destruction of the country along with it. |

"The nomination also was praised by Utah lawmakers, including Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, who reiterated that Matheson's experience has prepared him well for the position." Hatch, another well-known flaming socialist, correct? It could also be that this guy is qualified for the job & just happens to be so and so's brother. |

Absolutely! It's impossible to tell the difference. Which is why, people with ethics, simply decide to completely recuse themselves to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest. In cases where it's impossible to recuse yourself (i.e. you are CEO of a company, or president of the united states) avoid the situation all together and just find somebody else, no matter how good the fit is. People taking jobs on the public dime should have an obligation to avoid even the appearance of conflict of interest... not just avoid actual conflicts of interest. I don't know how we came to the point where this sort of stuff is tolerated.... |

I don't know how we came to the point where this sort of stuff is tolerated.... We have been raised in an environment where it is felt that everything should be handed to us for free without any work involved. We have become lazy as evidenced by the intellectual sloppiness that permeates non-motorcycle related threads on this board. Emotionalism trumps logic but that is always a losing strategy ultimately. People simply need to open their eyes and wake up. |

It could also be that this guy is qualified for the job & just happens to be so and so's brother. Who's questioning his qualifications. There's tens of thousands of layers out there who are undoubtedly qualified. The question is why this single individual at this particular time? The brother of a congressman right when he desperately needs another couple of votes on BO's biggest issue while in office. This would not be questioned so much if it weren't for the pattern of blatant vote purchasing that has gone on so far. This is simply a continuation of the pattern. I have a feeling that when children of the future read history textbooks they may find themselves reading about a second Louisiana Purchase. That will be BO's real legacy. Bringing Chicago politics to the White House.

Didn't Bush try to put his cleaning lady on the Supreme Court? |

His head lawyer, yes. Qualified or not, there was no impropriety, perceived or otherwise, in that nomination. This appointment APPEARS to be a bribe attempt to gain his brother's vote. Not saying it is. |

Didn't Bush try to put his cleaning lady on the Supreme Court? If you want to make that claim feel free to support it. |

I may be wrong, but Drkside's comment looks like sarcasm to me. Don't believe everything you read on the internet! |

I think the two party system has failed the people and this cancer will not go away without big changes. Iam looking forward to a party that can adhere to the constitution and take an oath to the people to uphold it. Kind of like elected officials do already. The RNC better think twice before they get all giddy in the next election. Iam not buying their crap just because the other guy is dem. |

Suffice it to say that I have become completely disgusted with our current political climate. My disgust crosses both party lines. Our government was designed as one "of the people, by the people and for the people". These days I feel comfortable saying that it is for sure not of the people. Career politicians are not my people, I don't relate to them, they don't understand or care about our needs and I could venture to guess most of you here feel the same way. It may still be by the people but ask your average person where the people they vote for stand on various issues and they will not be able to tell you. Finally it sure as hell isn't one for the people anymore as we are crippled by our declining value of the dollar. The rich get rich and the poor get poor. |

I'm not convinced that our political system can be fixed. The constitution has been so trampled that no politicians have the will or the power to reverse it. I think we are hurtling through a repeat of history that has played out many times. Political choices only determine the rate at which we are hurtling through current history. |
