The 92nd annual Crotona Midnight Run kicks off THIS weekend. Unlike last year's balmy temperatures, looks like there'll be a significant layer of SNOW on the roads.
I'm out wanted to go but just had to have gallbladder surgery yesterday so I am sidelined for awhile. Froggy aint out trust me on that unless he broke himself last night. I heard he dropped the blast 6 times and froze up the carb had to hitch home. Crazy bastid
I ain't out, but I need to get that thing fixed! I'm not sure exactly whats up with it, as its still on the side of the road, but I think its BAS related.
How much does it really take to fix a blast that has been dropped 6 times? I live in Cleveland and just rode the other day when it was 29 degrees. It was actually nice. Cold I can deal with. Snow and ice starts to get a little dicey for me.
I did 600 miles this weekend in 10-20 degree weather and snow (Gerbing heated gear is awesome and the Uly is the bike for this kind of mess)...
The snow and ice patches were definitely high on the pucker factor and I thought I was going down more than a couple times hehe. I had to get a ride in though or I was going to go friggin insane!
hardcore was saintly buying a new 07xb from daves in wisconsin in FEBRUARY and riding it home to ny! the thermometer on the wall said 9deg as he was pulling out of the lot. it's an 1100 mile ride home.
i've been on my way to work in the morning in my truck bitching about the snow and seen him on a hardtail chopper sliding his way through the snow on his way to work. i stop bitching at that point!!!
Froggy, here's a hint if you are competing this weekend: Follow Bob Goldman. He's the big guy with glasses on the silver/gray Kawasaki Concours 14. He's won the event the past umpteen times in a row. More than a few novices have won trophies by just following him without regard to their own target times...
I talked to Sean today didn't even remember talking to him yesterday. I am trying to get my shit together a bit but the dope I got from the doc is keeping me foggy as hell. Hope you guys are fairing well in the northlands.
All I can say is I haven't started, insured or driven my car for 26 months, (This time) and my number one goal is to get back on any one of my bikes as soon as I can.
It's not likely I'll be even going to the sign up this year. The 1125R is still in the shop awaiting parts, and I don't feel like riding an 850 lbs behemoth on icy roads. That bike has never been down in 11 years and 135,000 miles and I don't feel like risking that record this weekend.
"Isn't the trouble with Oddball that Beatniks and jive didn't happen till the 50's & 60's...man? True Danger Dave. Kind of like Donald sutherlands other movie "MASH" that movie was b.s too
IMPORTANT UPDATE: If you are considering doing the Crotona Midnight Run tonight, PLEASE call (914)422-1806 around noon today for the final "Go-NoGo" decision.
Just received an update from the Rally Organizer that he is heading out now to check the road conditions. He will use those findings along with tonight's forecast to make his decision.
