A buddy of mine is going to be picking up a MX bike here soon. He's wants either a Honda or Yami. The 09 New Honda is $5,200, while the 09 New Yami is $5,300. He's most comfortable on the Yami's, loves the easy set up suspension, and while it's still carb'ed, it's dialed in. His previous bike was a YZ450.

As for Honda he likes the fuel injection, stronger motor, and the 20 or so lbs of less weight compared to the Yami. He is worried about the bike being a PITA the set up, as he won't have a ton of seat time to mess with suspension setting etc...

Any thoughts and or opinions would be appreciated.

I would go with the Yami because of the new engine design is pretty sweet!

Sorry not much help though... LOL

I have a CRF450, and I can say this, regardless of what anyone says about Honda from a personal standpoint, they make outstanding motorcycles. Period. I have beat on that bike, rode the hell out of it, two years with only valve adjustments, and those actually never needed shimmed, and it has performed perfectly. Buy the Honda and he will never be sad about it. I love my CRF, my buddy owns a Kawi 450, but when he bought his daughters dirt bikes to ship to them in Ireland, he said he wanted trouble free dependable bikes, he bought Hondas. True story CRF 70 and CRF150F. All of them are good, Honda is just better. The suspension settings on my bike took less than an hour to get right. The biggest problem was setting it up for my height as I am a bit of a midget at 5'5", but once I had the seat shaved a bit I was good to go. The suspension on that CRF is so good, it just takes some clicks and some hard riding and it will come right on target. He will love the Honda.

If he's a Yamaha faithful; a Honda will never live up, in his mind.

Made a mistake. His last two bikes have been KTM 450's, he's open minded.

Can't go wrong with either one in my opinion. That said.....
If he is going to get a 2009 buy the Honda.
If he goes 2010's, buy the Yamaha.

Personally, I think set-up is easy on both.

Get two $1800 KDX-200's, and bring a friend. ; ).

Or a used KTM two stroke... I've seen some smoking good deals at the $2000 price point or so.

Of the two suggested, I would definitely go with the fuel injected version... my neighbor has a CRF-450x. Great bike, but he has had to fuss with jetting a few times.

I own a CRF450X. I would buy something fuel injected at this point. I have to rejet for weather and these high performance 4strokes are more finicky on jetting than their 2 stroke ancestors every dreamed.

What is he using it for? Racing motorcross? Woods riding? Hairscrambles? or both The 09 Honda has insane power, nice for motorcross not so good for woods riding. I own a 2004 Crf 450 and love it perfect for about anything. A friend of mine picked up a 09 crf450 rode it for two months and traded it in on a KTM 300. He races hairscrambles and occasional motorcross races. He said the 09 450 had so much power it "hit" to hard. and it was hard to control in the woods tired him out to quickly. He tried messing with fuel injection maps it was still unbearable. So even though I am a faithful Honda owner, If he is only woods riding I would suggest the Yami, otherwise he wouldn't go wrong with either one.
