We have booked our flights. All of them...and insurance. Hope we got it right? hehehe As it stands here is the fixed itinerary... Fly into LA May 28 for a few days Overnight trip to Vegas somewhere there. Fly to NY June 3. Lunch at Dinosaur June 6. Rent car (preferably something cool, loud and fast) and leave NY June 8 Arrive in Columbus June 13. Head to Homecoming with y'all. Leave Alpine Valley June 20. Head back to Columbus. Fly back to LA June 23 for disgustingly long connecting flight back to Oz. If anyone can give us a few tips on what to visit while in New York it would be appreciated. Also we need to know where to hire aforementioned loud, fast cool hire car? Woot Woot! Seeya soon! |

Took my wife & kids there for a week last summer ... had a great time! I went to the Statue of Liberty when I was in college nearby, but it's alot better by boat at sunset. Have a great trip!

You don't need to go to the statue. You can get a good look at it from the Staten Island Ferry just ride it there and back. |

Having lived there for 11 years, my best, most lasting impressions of the city have been from walking, biking and generally farting around town, exploring and taking in the effect of the city as an amalgam of an incredible amount of interesting, individual things. Pretty much of a metaphor for the country: more than the sum of its parts. |

How long you gonna be in LA Area? There are some HISTORIC small clubs. McCabes almost always has a good night's entertainment. They just celebrated their 50th year. http://www.mccabes.com/ - check their schedule (though it doesn't look like there's anything hooked up the few days you're in the area) I'll ping a few folks in "the business" see if we can come up with something worth your attention while you're out in the LA area. |

C.B.G.B.'s You're talking my language! When I think of NYC, that's always one of the first things that comes to mind... I may be mistaken but... isn't CBGBs GONE?? The actual gig venue has been closed a few years now I think |

"...walking, biking and generally farting around town, exploring and taking in the effect of the city..." Sounds cool to me. Any tips on a starting point? I've wanted to go to New York for a long time, but I'm not necessarily sure why. When I think of NY I think of: CBGB's (Blondie, The Ramones, Talking Heads, and even the first gig by The Police in the U.S.) Central Park Statue of Liberty Buildings - Empire State, Rockefeller Center, Chrysler Building, and of course the WTC site. Staten Island Ferry Broadway (and Billy Joel songs...) Really big guitar stores Brooklyn Bridge Yellow Cabs Coffee All sorts of different kinds of food Am I on the right track? "How long you gonna be in LA Area?" We have a jet-lagged friday 28 May, then saturday/sunday Seeing a gig at a small club would be cooool. I think we also have to incorporate things like Rodeo Drive, and shopping, and if I can squeeze it in, a visit to the G&L guitar factory . Plan is to head to Vegas on the Monday. |

>>>>Really big guitar stores We'll be hitting "Guitar Row" during the 1st 4 hours of our jaunt. By 4:30 that afternoon . . . we'll have hit Rivington and Matt Umanov (where I got in trouble for taking the last 50th Anniversary Strat that Sting tried to buy out from under me - NOTE: It now lives in Australia) and shortly after the sunset Statue of Liberty viewing . . . we'll be hitting what is likely the world's most famed guitar store. . . yet, the one that Joni Mitchell wrote about . . . the one that Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney still visit and the one George Harrison tried to sneak into unannounced one day . . . (didn't work) . . . it's about 5 blocks from our house. Still laughing about the guitar Erik picked up . . . he was playing it and was amazed. . . I could see the wheels spinning. Then we looked at the tag . . . it was on sale . . marked down to $47,000. Some REALLY neat stuff. www.mandoweb.com We'll rock By the way . . . . if Stan tells you "it's on sale" . . keep asking questions before you hand him a credit card. It's the only music store I know where the owner sits at the front door. . . no kidding the front door comes into his private office . . and greets everyone entering with "pick up anything you'd like and play it". |

"...The ride will be just as challenging..." Jon - Thank you, but unfortunately I don't think we'll get to San Fran on this trip Hmmm... some very cool guitar shops...
