Really sad start. I'm blissfully almost entirely ignorant of the competitors so far. If ESPN isn't covering, I'll probably miss most of it, a first for me. |

Short track speed skating is great to watch. Hope they show lots of that. Biathlon is a cool sport, but not much to watch. |

Only amateurs should compete. No NHL players! Can never repeat the magic of the 1980 Olympic team. I even "went to school" with one of the players on the 1980 team, Steve Christoff. Well, I didn't really know him. He graduated in 1976 and I graduated in 1980. But we went to the same school, Richfield High School. It was awesome watching the 1980 hockey games. Over half the team was from Minnesota. |

I am watching the opening and those projector effects are stunning. Canada is looking good. I am thinking Norway will kick some butt this year. |

After the opening ceremony I am watching my local 11pm news, NBC in Phila, they were they talked about the death of the georgia bobsled racer covered it pretty well, and then they showed the clip where the Georgia guy died. (I think) It was like less than 3 secs of him coming around a bend and he flew up and out of the sled, he was in mid flight when they flipped back to the news. I was like WTF !?!? Did they just show that?!?!?! I looked for video on YouTub but could not find it. Maybe it wasn't him in the clip. |

Yes that footage is real. They also showed a close up of the medical team of doctors doing CPR on him only seconds after he hit the metal post. I think that was in very bad taste that footage got released. The family and his team are both suffering greatly. |

I think that was in very bad taste that footage got released. I have been searching for the video since i heard about it and now that i have seen it, i agree with you. That was hard to watch. Weird part is that its on the NBC Olympic website. You would think they would be the ones putting a stop to the video! |

Yeah, the IOC got it pulled off of youtube... but there are some pretty gruesome photos floating around too. I feel bad for the guys teamates and his family... but as they say about motorcyclists... he did die doing what he loved to do... |

Nothing compares to the speed, thrill and excitement of ......... curling? Bocce on ice?
C'mon USA& Italia Ps- Very bad form for NBC to show what they did. Initial pics were still photos of the luger as he went over the wall, and that should have been enough. When they showed video of him impacting the support beam, and the graphic scenes of the attempts to revive him, that was too much. I wanted my little girls to stay up late to watch the opening ceremony, but not when NBC starts their coverage with that. |

Only amateurs should compete. No NHL players! Do they let professional boxers fight in the summer olympics? (I'm glad they pulled it off YT) |

Apolo just made a statement in his heat race in short track. I'm glad Vonn is getting this extra time to heal. |

I used to feel that only amatures should compete but too many countries had professional amatures anyway, so why pretend? I like the Olympics since I get to see obscure sports that almost never get shown on the tube. I did see the luge video. When the guy didn't move after hitting the post headfirst I knew it was bad. That was the thought that got me to slow down on the roads. I would see all those steel posts and think "Man, those would hurt". |

I'll watch just about anything to do with the Winter or Summer Olympics!! I know people who have qualified for and attempted to qualify for the summer Olympics. All had REAL jobs, worked their butts off to get to qualifying races, pay entry fees, equipment, etc. Sure some and I mean very few get the endorsements, 90% do it for the TRUE love of their sports knowing they gave it their best shot. There are many NFL and NBA so called stars that have lost that fire, imho. |

Yes that footage is real. Sadly, yes it is. Drudge Report has the full clip. I know these guys take the risk by getting on the luge, but you'd think these track officals would have a little more sense! Create some type of barrior BEFORE someone is killed. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9DSQ3GG0& show_article=1

so i cant watch the live and full replays online because nbc wont let me... can anyone help me out? (i really wanna watch some olympic hockey tonight) If anyone wants to help me stick it to the man (NBC) you could follow these steps. 1. Go to your cable providers website and change your password to something generic 2. PM me your username, new generic password, and cable provider. 3. I will enter in the info (its a onetime thing) and email you back. 4. Then you can change your password back to whatever you like. 5. I say thank you and watch olympic hockey and you feel great for stickin' it to the man. (Message edited by jdemoxb9r on February 16, 2010) |
