I've got a small leak coming from where the clutch cable goes into the primary case. the previous owner told me this was just an o ring.

The Harley shop told me to bring the o ring in and they'd match it up. I figure if that's what they're goign to do, then I can match it up myself from another source. Does anyone have the part number or size of the o ring that I would need?

Be prepared to drain the primary, unless you have a rear stand, and take the clutch mechanism apart in order to replace that little o ring.

I ended up ordering the o ring from American sportbike. Yeah my oil is already drained. Figure I'llg et the case polished up while everything is apart anyways.

Important Safety Tip- When reassembling, whatever you do, do NOT over-torque the hex on the clutch cable where it screws into the primary cover. The hex and threads are made of aluminum and will snap off REALLY easily. Light finger-tight with a short wrench is plenty tight.

Usually it's leaking at the crimp , not the o ring

my cable does have some fraying right before it gets to the screw part of the fitting. Is oil just leaking through there? Would a new cable fix this?

If it's leaking at the crimp, how do I fix that? A new cable?

On removing the primary case cover altogether...

Here's my other question: I figure I'll take the entire case cover off to get it polished up. How do I remove the clutch cable? And what do I do with the primary nut and adjuster? Is there a way to make sure I get it in the same spot when I reassemble?

If your cable is good then just get some high temp oil resistant RTV gasket would work. Just put it around the crimp part of the cable. I do that with all of my cables now since that area tends to be prone to leak it seems with me.

This stuff works good for that.

Found a great step by step on removing primary cover and fixing a leak.
