My cellphone took a dump yesterday, OK I dumped in a snowdrift and it got run over by a snow blower!

Well I decided to join the real world and get a smart phone. I need to stay with Verizon due to more of my family use there service and work is getting ready to switch to them as well. So the Iphone is out.

anyone have any input on the Motorola Droid? Like can I down load mY MP3s to it from my computer? And can I tie it to my E-mail and Hotmail accounts?

I need to do something Monday or Tuesday.

Not my weekend for tech stuff...the power supply in my main computer took a dump so I just had to cough up $150.00 for a new one, 850 watts!

You can do all of that and more. Im sure you can use a gmail account with it. Im leaving Blackberry for one when att start getting droid phones or verizon comes down on the prices. So far I think its best to buy off of Dell.com website....not sure if thats still true. i wish I had one, they are the coolest phones on the planet.

Have a Droid and LOVE it. Don't think of it as a "phone" (though it is a far better phone than the Apple iPhone), think of it as a computer that allows you to make phone calls.

The more I use and exploit this thing, the more amazed I am by it. And yes, you can attach it to your PC and mount it as a hard drive and transfer up to 16G of photos and MP3 files it as easily as copying to another folder on your hard drive. I've got about two days of non-stop music on it already.

Got both the car mount (where I use it as a navigator and entertainment system) and the multimedia stand (where it works great as a small music player and an alarm clock).

Don't hesistate... it's AWESOME.

Got one. Far better than the wife's iPhone. Little computer indeed. I spend more time on it than our Mac.

Jaimec, You spoke of using it as a car entertainment system, and that leads Me to a question of, are there any transmitters that could tie such a device into Your car stereo, ie, using car radio ,and speakers for use with the Droid or other phones?
Anyone else know of such a device, if there is one?

If it drops less than 15 calls a day . . . it's better than the iPhone in NYC. I'm having a love/hate relationship with the iPhone and I see a divorce in our future . . .

I went to the verizon store planning to get the droid but the keyboard and general layout kind of left me numb. I ended up with the htc pro touch 2.

Its an awesome smartphone with a great keyboard and tilt screen. Uses windows mobile so there is plenty of software. Ive got garmin navigator, gps based real time weather radar, skype, windows media player, divx player, games and other software etc.

HTC phones are sweet. Check them out before you buy the motorola. Iam verizon too.

You've got a funny idea of "huge." Does it work with the ladies you meet?

If your car is Bluetooth enabled, you can use that to pipe the Droid through your car sound system. I have a more "primitive" method... a device that plugs into the Droid's audio jack and slips into my car cassette player. Works like a charm. I got a phone call the other day while using the Droid as a Navigator and Entertainment system. No problem as both were put into the background during the call, and came back when the call ended.

The music also dutifully pauses while the Navigator "speaks," then resumes when the Navigator is done. Both volume levels are independantly adjustable.

The Droid worked perfectly as a speakerphone even with the sound piped through the car stereo, too. I wasn't sure if it would... but it did.

Like I said, the more I learn about this thing the more I love it.

Jaimec, thx for the Info. Won't work for Me. No cassette, no Bluetooth.
I should not be spending so much right now, on a phone anyway, but it does seem to be a pretty cool toy, ... as that is what it would be more or less, for Me.

Well cheap as I am I went ahead and did it. Couple of apps seem to be nice that I used on a friends Iphone and I can get the same apps of the Droid it looks like. GPS will be a good start...though most folk are more than willing to tell me where to go!

humm, an app that would let you data log off of the ecu with an additional input for a wide band O2 would be cool. You could even reduce weight by eliminating the oem dash.

I have had my Droid for a while and find it to be the best phone I have ever had. I have a Silverado with a Aux port and I plug my phone in there and can listen to music through the speakers and make calls with no issues. Most likely will be a getting a mount for my bike along with helmet speakers. Its a sweet phone.

I have the "little droid" (eris). If you're talking mobile entertainment make sure to get the "tune wiki" application (free). Internet radio as well as your own recorded stuff. + you can record the songs you like from the streaming radio stations to your library. Very cool stuff!
BTW I think the eris is free now or close to it if you renew your contract.

My Windows powered HTC Touch Pro phone is unlocked and can be used on both Sprint and Verizon (don't get the crippled Verizon supplied one). They also make a GSM version for ATT and the other garbage networks.

If your heart is set on Android, Sprint currently supports the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment.

Hard for me to say. The best phone on the market right now is the HTC Touch HD2 which was recently released, but currently its only on GSM networks. It is such a shame to cripple an awesome phone with shut a horrible network. I can't really commend on the android phones because I haven't had enough first hand play time with them, but I still like me Windows phones better.

You can get the HTC Touch Pro 2, which is similar, but has a smaller screen and half the processing power. It is powerful enough, but it annoys the crap out of me when it starts to bog down as I use it.

Come back to me in a few months, when Windows Mobile 7 comes out and revolutionizes everything. Till then, I am going to stick with my Touch Pro 1, which I unlocked and changed the OS to Windows 6.5

Whatever you do, don't waste your money on an iPhone. Remind Court to tell you about his sometime.

ha ha theres a reason i have sprint (its cheap) iphones.....not so cheap! lol, but i just have a crappy sprint rant right now (common sliding phone w/ keyboard) its an ok phone, it freezes a lot though, i over use it i think between facebook email youtube and general internet searches. i'd like to get a smart phone that i can get some of these cool apps you all are always going on about.

I would jsut get an ipod touch, seeing as they do apps, but you need to be around an internet source to use most of them.

I don't know if the iPad nano (ipod touch) can do it, but on my Nokia N800 internet tablet, I can use the bluetooth and tether it to my phone, and leech off the data plan if I am not near a wifi hot spot.

Oh, and this thing pre-dates the iPhone by a few years, yet can do many things the iPhone wishes it could do! : )
