So as not to slow load the conversation - post some example camera outputs in here. Make 'em decent size if you can. I like the Nikon VR 18-200 lens that came with the D90 kit. The vibration technology seems to work well if tracking shots are the goal.

Canon Rebel XT, stock 18-55 lens. These photos are not touched up at all, only resized. Ghostbunny ftw |

Nice bike. Good thing that visor is down, or you would have a broken Canon Rebel XT, stock 18-55 lens. |

When Dave mentioned the "vibration technology," I expected a comment on Boy Racers. |

Lovely. Here's a bit faster and with the ISO cranked. I like it best when you can't see the spokes, just the hoops, but shooting for the mag I dig the way the subject stands out and the depth it creates.

Dave, Great shots. I really need to get to a track to practice my panning. Nikon D3, 1/320, Nikon 70-200 VR at 200mm, f 9, ISO 200, Hayabusa 100 MPH Mike Long Island, NY (Message edited by RKC00 on February 09, 2010) |

Mike, See if you can find a local velodrome or criterium bicycle race. Early races should start up in March/April time frame, you can usually put yourself less than 10' (often 2') from the racers as they pass, and it will give you lots of opportunity for panning practice. I'll have to dig around at home to see if I have anything to upload. |

Doesn't look like much practice is needed. |

New lens? Looks good on the phone, probably looks great on a full screen. |

Not the new lens. This was taken during Hurricane Bill at Montauk Point with my 600mm f4.0 + 1.4 TC. The new lens will be used on Saturday for some basketball. Good luck with the wedding this weekend. Mike Long Island, NY

Question for photo experts. What settings are required for the camera to get the egg shaped wheels when taking photo of moving motorcycles? That effect always gave the impression of high speed. |

Mike.. Here are a few shots that I took with that 200-500.
I hesitated to post any of my pictures in this thread so if anyone has any critiques/advise/tips/comments, please let me know. |

Looks pretty good to me, apart from the subject matter. I can tell mike how to get rid of the ghosting around the front wheel if he likes? |

Sorry I'm not expert enough to know if that is the 45 or the G50 he also races. Dave Cole Racing is renown in Classic Racing circles. He and Ken Macintosh (Norton) produce very fast bikes in NZ. |

Jim, They look good. Was the lens at 500mm in those shots? Here are a few I took with that lens: D200, ISO 400, f/6.7, 1/1500 D200, ISO 200, f/8.0, 1/1250 D200, ISO 400, f/8.0, 1/640 Steve, Like the images out of that Sony. Really like the Boat shot. DD, A better job in Photoshop would have taken care of it. Had just gotten back from March Badness and Gentleman Jon was showing me how to use layers and the eraser tool. I only use photoshop once in a while. I use Aperture on my mac for my edits. Mike Long Island, NY 09 XB12X 09 1125CR 06 VRSCR (Message edited by rkc00 on February 15, 2010) |
