Anyone else get this from HD? Imagine that, I am in a select group of HD fans. I thought only the Buells had the fans.

Dear Harley-Davidson Fan,

The Harley-Davidson Marketing Team has commissioned IntelliSurvey to conduct an important market research study with a select group of Harley-Davidson fans, like yourself.

The study is interactive and engaging and we would value your feedback to help us continuously improve the products and services we offer to motorcycle riders. We greatly appreciate your participation and look forward to seeing you out on the road!

Our survey is online at:

http://www7.intellisurvey.com/run/cml100213/387739 49213874?src=3

This survey will close no later than February 16, 2010. Thank you in advance for your time.

Guess I should have completed the survey before I posted.

It let me start the survey but when I got to the end it said it was already completed by someone else. I am sure whoever completed it shared my sentiments though.

Own up, who was it?

Thanks Glitch. Now we can all give them an earful.

And yes the survey does seem a bit desperate.

When asked why I wasn't motivated to go into a Dealership, I wrote in, "I have a Buell Pegasus tattoo"

for some odd reason I am not on the list.

Me neither, but I *know* why I'm not on 'the list'. Shortly after the announcement on Oct. 15th, I went on www.buell.com and adjusted my preferences in my profile and unchecked Harley-Davidson in my interests.

I haven't heard a peep out of them since!

Wow . . I just went through the survey.

Cognizant that I am not a objective audience . . . did anybody buy any of that crap?

First . . . If I were one for the 17% unemployed, whose number increased by 440,000, last week and someone told me that the "Suck Hole Economy" was just an illusion . . . "Screw it Spend $3 a day or $9 and day for a Softail" I'd be, in all candor, insulted.

Second. . . The quote that continues to pop up about "we put up $1 Billion of our own money" bothers me a bit. But wait ? ? ? . . . didn't you guys just borrow $600,000,000 from Warren Buffet at a 15% APR and then . . . being a little short on cash . . .just borrowed money to pay the interest on the money you borrowed? You couldn't shit a billion dollars if you had castor oil pumped up your "groin area" . . . "metaphorically speaking".

Third . . . what's up with this "they're flying off the floor" bullshit? I get insulted when you lie to me. I was on the conference call with the Analysts in New York who cover your H.O.G. stock and I read, in great detail, the 3rd quarter 10Q and the preliminary 4Q reports. You lost your ass. Not only did sales suffer the most precipitous drop in the history of Harley-Davidson, you had a whopping huge ass loss for the first time in 16 years. We . . remember us . . the ones that for years . . as you told us "$5,000 over MSRP, we need a $2,000 deposit and there's a 2 year wait". . are not stupid. Frankly I was less concerned about the loss . . hey, business is business . . .than I was your inability to predict with any accuracy the results of your own operations 90 days hence. You make me think you are as out of touch with your business as you are with reality. Good move, in times like that, brining in a couple Execustuds who know nothing about the business. Get a memo to Keith and John . . . We tolerated your bullshit when we had to. We no longer have to. We grounded our children to teach them not to lie. . . now go to your room.

Fourth . . . what's this "We ride in the rain?" I got the impression that you'd fooled the guy reading the ad copy, he seemed like bought it. I had the great pleasure of getting to ride to the Press Intro with the Harley-Davidson "Rough Riding" executives and we fought our way from Milwaukee to Bryce Canyon . . . enduring, as only men of steel could . . .nearly 250 miles a day as we ground our way across fruited plains, the prairie and through the mountains . . . . having only the comfort of lavish hotels, chase vehicles and expense accounts to help fend off the elements. Oh yeah . . . I was the ONLY one to ride home. . . it was too hot . . so the other 18 bikes were loaded in a trailer and hauled to the dealer show in Philadelphia. By the way . . . When they had 19 bikes and only room for the 18 in the trailer . . . just as they were calling a freight forwarder at the Harley media pool in L.A. I took the keys, through my luggage in the trailer and rode from St. George, UT to Philly . . .hell, it was only 2,500 miles . . . oh . . wait . .that's 10 days of riding.

I think when Jimmy McCaslin decided to "leave to pursue other interests" that perhaps he had the corporate reality in one pocket and the sanity in the other . . . . I was . . however . . . able to honestly answer that all four . . using your vernacular "Suck Hole" ads impressed me about the same.

Oh yes . . . and . . .memo to ad agency . . . the Marlboro Man died about the same time your cheese was moved.

Court Canfield
New York City

P.S. - If you need it . . . I still have the 3 page memo I sent detailing all the problems with the 1999 bikes and suggesting the launch be postponed . . . I know your V.P. told me to throw it away . . .but I guess it got stuck here in my files . . .it's listed by V.I.N. and details the failures on each bike by each day . . . I was sorry to hear both that it was my imagination and that I was an "anecdotal alarmist" AND that you subsequently had to recall every one of those bikes.

I was not impressed with any of the ads.

They are trying too hard. It's obvious.

"Hey blowing the last $1B dollars on loans to people who couldn't pay them worked out so well, let's do it again."

Nothing like having the sales of your new bikes sitting on the floor undercut by the auction of default and repo bikes down the street.

"You can't fix stupid."

More than Court,
If harley cut there model line down I wouldn't be as pissed as I am.

But cut Buell out then still keep 32 models!?

WTF

How many Sporters do you really need?

Offer two 1200 883 and different 'kits'

Same with the other lines. Just pisses me off, cut out a whole family so you can keep your 'Billet Barges' not acceptable...

I start the survey from Glitch's link, and BAMM, I get the e-mail to take the survey.

I hope, they eventually, learn NOT send surveys about HD products to BUELL owners.

And it isn't just me! Saying their new marketing sounds like the old marketing. 'Hey, poor people, come buy one of our bikes!' Just what they need more BAD loans.

Yeah that survey is another pile of crap. My disinterest was apparent in every text box I filled out. I used the word "Buell" a lot too.

I was tempted to click 'Bad Weather' any time it was available....but figured that since they killed off the best brand they had going amidst a recently won championship they wouldn't understand the message behind my clicks if I went and explained them to Willy G himself.

.on dirt bikes riding off road!...before lunch.

Why do you think they are persisting with the 'Up yours' marketing?

As I've said on here repeatedly - the bikes are ferkin' great. They ride nice, look good and you can give me all the 'billet barge' jive you like, I still enjoy riding them.

Why can't they just tell potential customers that? - instead of being all 'tough guy'.

You're a chicken shit ad agency FFS.
