Hi everyone,
I had previously decided not to burden you with my personal troubles, however I know I may need some of your expertise. As some of you my have heard, northern Arizona got devastated by flooding a couple weeks ago. My father and I were two of those people who lost their homes. Since we lived in a 2nd story apartment, we were the only ones who didnt lose everything we owned. I was in Tucson during this unfortunate event, with my Buell so it was not damged and my father got our truck and his harley out as well. We lived in River's Edge RV Park in Black Canyon City, AZ for almost 11 years, we lived in a 1 bedroom apartment where we took turns as to who slept in the bed, depending on who had to do what the following day. The water made it half way up our stairs and was up to the ceiling of our landords house. The space was tight and the quarters were cramped but it was OUR home! When the flood came through the water level inside the park was around 10ft. high and completely destroyed everyone's home's around us. My father is currently living with a family friend, and I in Tucson (I go to UA) until we can find a new home, which will have to be cheap. In order to afford everything my father worked 3 jobs, one of which was for our landlord that helped pay for the rent. Since this is no longer a viable option, we need to find something CHEAP, or else my dad said he would sell his Harley which is his only escape from the cruel hard realities of everyday life. Before he had his harley he was VERY depressed, because he had been riding all his life and was bikeless. I cannot see him like this again! Also if i were to sell my buell we'd be so upside-down on it that it would'nt even be funny.

So here's why i need your help, I need your help in finding ways to possibly getting government funding or any other viable means of financial aid. My father has NEVER owned a home/house and has OUTSTANDING credit and is NEVER late on a payment. Please if there is anything you can do to help, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Also please feel free to ask questions or anything, especially if it can help us with any kind of aid. We are from an extremely low annual income house hold, LESS than 30,000$ a year and need to find a home that is less than 700$ a month after utilities, I do not know if we can afford much more. I thank you for your time, here are some pictures of the flood and the damages:

Here is my father paddling back from our home with only the close he could fit in his duffle bag:

Pics of the RV Park after the event:

Here is my quad that got flipped over in the water, and our neighbors non functioning harley. However my best friend's dad was able to salvage everything on the quad and is now good as new. We could not move it because we had the rear shock being rebuilt. :

Thank you for your time,
Jake Holladay

First of all hang in there. Easy for me to say but others have come through worse and you will too. Try contacting social services. They can steer you in the right direction. Is there FEMA $ for this disaster? Although often criticized they do help folks in bad situations. And, stay in school and finish your degree. My mom lives in Tucson. AZ is a nice place despite the recent mess you are living through.
Keep your chin up,
BB

hey jake, really wish i was in a position to help you out right now cause i really can't think what it would be like to have to start from scratch again. there are agencies out there to help people out so tell your dad to just go and seek them out. don't be afraid to ask for help. there are a lot more less deserving people who milk the government for whatever they can every day and don't give it a second thought.

Jake, sorry to hear about this.

I also make less than $30k/year but have great credit, and was able to finance a home last summer. IMO, now is a good time to buy if you can. Also, since your dad has never owned a home, he can take advantage of the tax credit for first time home-buyers. The dates for eligible purchases were recently extended.

"Under the new law, an eligible taxpayer must buy, or enter into a binding contract to buy, a principal residence on or before April 30, 2010 and close on the home by June 30, 2010. For qualifying purchases in 2010, taxpayers have the option of claiming the credit on either their 2009 or 2010 return.
(from the IRS website)

Sorry I can't be of any more help. Best of luck to you and your dad.

Keep your heads up! Looks like you've already got that attitude!

I think many don't comment because they don't know what to say, to be honest.

Best of luck!
