As in a state of delusion, or reality?
I live in neither, or both I'm not sure which.
Physically I live in a very nice place, don't often lock up, keys are usually in the car. Gun crime is a very rare thing in most of Europe.
Only ever been on the wrong end of a gun 3 times in my whole life & each time an American at the other end.
Once because I missed a checkpoint on a US airbase in England, once because I was speeding near Austin & once by the retarded son of a Truckstop owner also near Austin.
I was so incensed that he pulled a gun on me in public I told his father to tell his monkey to take it out of my face before I stuck it up his arse. I got an apology & free coffee, so it wasn't all bad. |

The following are my own personal views based upon my personal experience.
A concealed firearm is a tool. A hammer is a tool. A screwdriver is a tool. A miter saw is a tool.
I don't think tools are inherently "evil." If you use a tool incorrectly, serious injury and/or death may occur (just look at the labels on your tools if you don’t believe me).
I think a person should be trained & knowledgeable in how to use the tool(s) they carry.
If a person decides not to use/carry an appropriate tool for the job at hand, it is their personal decision. Myself, I'd rather have the right tool for the job at hand when I need it. I don’t use a 20 lb. sledge to make a picture frame. I don’t use a 10 oz. hammer to break concrete.
You can have the best hammer money can buy, but if you don’t know how to use it, you can’t build a house with it.
Conversely, if you need to build a house, a hammer sure is a good tool to have. Yes, you can do it without a hammer, but it changes how you go about accomplishing that task.
So, in that light, there’s a lot of good points being made on all sides of this discussion:
-Situational awareness
-Be prepared to protect yourself in the absence of your preferred tool(s)
-Other tools can be improvised as needed for the situation
-Tools can be fun
-It’s a personal choice on what tool(s) you do or don’t decide to carry with you in every situation.
Now, for myself personally, I don’t typically carry a concealed firearm. Not because I don’t want to, but because my employer won’t let me. That’s why you’ll be hard pressed to ever find me without a good knife, wearing shoes I can comfortably run in for 1+ mile, my head up & eyeballs almost constantly moving.

I'm a Peaceful guy and have never had any trouble I couldn't reason my way out of, but I still have a few pistols and rifles in the locker.
The way I look at it unless there are no weapons anywhere I am going to have my share.
That doesn't mean I am deluded or have a penis growing out of my pituitary gland.
Bad people have weapons. That means good people should have them too.
As far as CCW I used to carry a Bond Arms .410 shotshell derringer in my boot and Springfield Champ .45 in my tankbag. In my truck I keep a Ruger Security Six .357 with Hogue grips. In the house gun safe I keep a Springfield XD .40 with Streamlight TLR2 light/laser and some extra mags. I also have a modded Remington 870 with Knoxx Spec-op recoil absorbing stock and Hogue Forestock. I've got a sweet Browning Buckmark .22 rifle with a Holo Sight that is scarey accurate and neat il Pietta replica of the cap and ball Remington 1858 .44 revolver converted to .45LC cartridge.
I used to compete in SASS so I had the full monty, matching Vaqueros, Lever Action Marlin, Coachgun...but that was a decade ago. Too expensive to shoot those big calibers these days. At 35 cents a shot I just can't enjoy it.
I used to have a lot more (Oly K-15 with Red Dot, Ruger LCP with Crimson Trace, Ruger Mark III with Weaver 2X, New Vacquero, etc) but I sold them to buy Buell parts  |

To the OP... I have shot and really enjoyed the Taurus PT111 and the PT145, but a good friend of mine works at the local gun shop and said they have had a significant number of them be returned because they ejected the magazine after firing the first shot. I thought he was full of it but asked if I could try one of the returns, and sure enough he was right. I will NEVER carry something that I don't have 100% faith in so that put an end to my interest in that pistol.
My range pistol is a Springfield XD9 Tactical and I love it, but way too big for concealed carry. I recently bought my wife an XD9 subcompact and if I can sneak it away from her it just might become my new CC weapon. I love the way it shoots for a compact and it is very tiny and easy to conceal without thought. Just my $0.02. |
