When I said "their" I meant from the point of view if the person calling themselves the "freethinker", regardless of which side of the issue they are on. The problem is, in the case of an issue like this, one side will never completely convince the other that it is right. Each side will always and forever disagree with the other. Hence: Democracy vs. Fascist Democracy vs. Communist Religion vs. Atheism Israel vs. Palestine Christian vs. Jew Jew vs. Muslim Muslim vs. Christian And so on and so forth, etc, etc. Forevermore. | ||

Is it just me or do you ever notice that the ivory towered elitist types like to quote all manner of philosophers except for one, by far the most famous, most widely read of them all? Too common for them apparently? They don't want to be seen as blending with the NASCAR crowd? What is your favorite parable or teaching from the pre-crucifixion life of Jesus of Nazareth as documented in the New Testament? Frankly I can't pick one. They are all amazing. The story of Zacchaeus is up there though, pun intended.  | ||

I have to agree with you Blake, the parables of Jesus are amazing. Can't really say that it is my far and away favorite, but I really enjoy reading John 8:1-11. | ||

Which is it? Jesus = elitist? If he was who he claimed, then, D'UH! According to you he was just a liar and a fraud. Yet you claim to respect his teachings. Are you familiar with Jesus' parable of the Good Samaritan and its hard-hitting context? Which of his teachings or parables is your favorite? | ||

Yes, admin, like most things in life, I have changed. I am studying enlightenment now, not to discount the above dogma, it was a start, and is still held dear to my heart. Seeking enlightenment, vis a vis Eastern Metaphysics, costs a lot of time and, in some cases, money. Folk are obviously willing to exchange their soul for said enlightenment, that "feeling" or "special knowledge," manifested by a lie that divinity is ours in exchange for an act like stapling a crystal to your forehead, worshiping trees, saying God is a woman, or any number of demented acts that pretty much guarantee them box seats on the lake of fire for eternity. I pray for the salvation of those tempted by ideas and trickery shopped by gurus, white witches, Bagwan Get Wan Free, yadda, yadda, on down the line of history to include the Egyptian schools of magic operating in the time of Christ. I will become a Buddha. I will meditate, play the Tabla, and practice Yoga (my second session just today, and I've never felt better, AWAKE and FREE!) Never said rocks bring magic, but I may become a rock for a while, a rock with eyes, ears, nose, feeling, taste, and complete awareness of the universe and then some. When I have achieved my enlightenment, maybe not in this lifetime, don't worry I won't come back to teach you, or preach you, there is enough information for each and everyone of you to do that for yourselves. Has anyone's mind been changed? I don't think my mind has been changed, just focused. Beginning Yoga was a new start for me yesterday, but I had plenty of interest in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism over the last 20 years. I really started this thread for people to enjoy and discuss all religions and no-religions. We have had so many political threads over the last three years, but none religious that I can remember. Mr. Bastard got me started last year when I started the 'for all you haters out there' thread about gay marriage. It went south to the backfire board quickly. I found it interesting that he and others said that marriage is a religious rite between man and woman only, and I proceeded to show how Paganism (got some experience it that study as well, as having been to same-sex weddings that were pagan based.) Mr. Bastard discounted my example of a religiously acceptable same sex marriage by saying that Paganism was a man made religion. Well guess what we now agree on, that all 'organized' religion are in fact man made. I really do have tons of interest in this subject. I have experienced some marvelously unexplainable things in my life, unfortunately they were all under the influence of different psychotropic substances, so no proof. Berkeley hippy here. I knew that this thread would bring out some hate based faith opinions veiled in excuses not to love all. So, thanks for stoppin' in Reg, put up anything religious here, and we'll try to respectfully mull it over. Biker's Forever. |
