Great thread. What an education I am getting!

I miss grunge too, cityx. The "Singles" soundtrack lived in my cars CD player for months at one point. I've always regretted never seeing Nirvana when I had the chance.

I did see the following band, Blind Melon, but only once. Shannon Hoon was found dead in New Orleans about a month before the second time we planned to see him. Another bright light snuffed out too soon.

The one time we saw Blind Melon was at the Florida Theatre in Gainesville. Admission was $1, and the beer was free. That's right, we saw Blind Melon for a dollar. They were relatively unknown at that time so there might have been 50 people in attendance. Surreal. What a gifted, sweet, tormented soul. What a shame. "Nico" is my favorite CD. It was named after Shannon's daughter and Sales proceeds go to help musicians with substance abuse issues.

Here's "Mouth full of cavities"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3RxqL92fPM&NR=1

"Paper Scratcher"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUyVe5RIZIU&NR=1

And the obligatory "No Rain" (featuring the Bee girl) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r--at8M9tjI&feature =fvw

Bummer I don't have time to check all these at the moment, I will sometime soon... but I have to give the big for PJ Harvey (she's soooooo cool) and the Cowboy Junkies (I need to get myself another copy of the Trinity Sessions album) and Concrete Blonde (can't remember the last time I heard them!).

While we're talking female rockers, anybody heard of Sydney band The Superjesus? Not sure if they ever got anywhere in the U.S. This is probably my favourite single of theirs, "Gravity" : )

Lemonchili-Never heard of that particular band, but there's always a plethora of good music coming out of your part of the world. I miss the Triple J hottest 100 CD's my former CEO used to bring home when we had offices in Melbourne and Sydney.

Not sure if he really qualifies as obscure, as he was EVERYWHERE in the mid-90's with his ODELAY CD. If you like Beck, this CD is a must have. Not a bad song on it.

Any ska fans? I had a bit of a phase around 1984... skinny ties, stovepipes, pointy shoes... : D

The Beat are still one of my fav bands. *Somewhere* I have a 12" EP of extended remixes...

The Philosopher Kings- great power pop, great songwriting, hooks galore.

2fer: October Project. Same comments as above, but with mesmerizing female harmonies. Strong production values, "thick" sound.

In memory of Vernell Roberts, who died this past week, a 3fer:

Gurf Morlix, "Dan Blocker"

Don't get around these parts much anymore but damn do I love some good music and a thread to go with it.

Here's a few by an up and coming blues singer named Lincoln Durham. Kid doesn't even have a CD out yet but he will soon. Ray Wylie Hubbard is producing and his son Lucas Hubbard will be playing on some of the tracks. Give it a listen... if you like the blues... real blues.

Sorry, I don't do rules too well, here's my second for the day, forgive me.

I went to college with this cat and palled around with him and our little art click in 1985 at University of San Francisco, it's a classic rap of that period.

I still remember the first show. Oakland Coliseum, 1982 or '83. It was my first live rock concert ever. I was 16-17 years old. Guess who took me? My Father. We drove the two hours to the event in his '73 Jaguar XJ12 sedan. I remember the whole night. The ride there and back. I remember him telling me what 'that' smell was. Marijuana. I remember our seats, the whole event. He love me and our family very much. And he loved the show! Miss ya dad.

+1 Guy Clark

Also played at the Shed, a legendary singer/songwriter.

Had a great time, clocked out on a Saturday just as a show was starting.

PBR tallboy and BBQ in hand, life doesn't get much better.

Ray Wylie & son, Bonepony have great chemistry.

Seems I've a distillation of redneck koans.

Seriously, good shows ahead.

The Quantic Soul Orchestra.

There's so much more cracking stuff of theirs out there I had a hard time choosing only two!!
