What an a$$, to deliberately embarrass the SCOTUS at the SotU.

Where in the heck did this man come from. Never mind I know: (.

I disagreed when it was done to him. I rescind that now. Let the public thrashings begin.

It's SCOTUS. USSC is a lot of other things, but not what you're referring to.

No prob. In younger days, I used to edit news copy and for the first couple of months I was mightily confused. We used to pull stuff off the AP wire and all personal names were capitalized. I didn't realize SCOTUS was an acronym. I thought it was some guy's last name.

Thanks.

It might help some to know who is being referred to as "this man" and "him", along with "SCOTUS" and "SotU".

Great speech as usual on form though if youve seen one youve seen them all. Chris matthews forgot he was black but harry reid thinks he does well because he has white in him. The libs on political forums are calling chris a racist. Probably a covert tea party person.

Teleprompter of the U.S.

It seems to run in the 'family'. It is valid criticism. A few days ago I watched the First Lady requesting aid for Haiti by donation to the American Red Cross. The ad, was a simple head and shoulder shot, but her eyes continued to flash to the side to read her script. It's like every one of them are in High School, glancing at their neighbors test answers. It was a good request, but didn't seem personal or sincere because of the reading. These are our educated?

Just an observation.

I like to think that if I was ever running the country, I'd have the balls to forgo reading a script and just talk to my people. Is that really so hard to do? I'm sure I'd be the laughing stock of every critic, but I can't help but think the masses would appreciate some info that hadn't been run through the political spin machine.

But then again, I guess when you tell that many lies, it gets hard to keep them all straight, hence the teleprompter.

The two greatest presidents I can remember seeing addressing the press or public, are Ronald Reagan & Bill Clinton.

In the UK & France though it's just the same, the current crop of the worlds politicians all seem to be a cut below their predecessors.

None of the bastards seem sincere, or to give a rat's about anybody but themselves.

Perhaps it's just I've become more cynical with age & can better see past the gloss.

The man needs a teleprompter to address a classroom full of 6th graders for crying out loud. He is a bumbling fools without a teleprompter.

A sixth grader or teacher probably didn't take photograph.

Importance of tele-prompters is likely driven by wide-spread use of audio-video recording.

JFK's was first televised US Presidential primary.

Obama was not quite accurate in saying the ruling "reversed a century of law" because the 1907 law in question was left intact.

Nor is it established, as Obama suggested it was, that corporations and foreigners can now have the run of the body politic, given other prohibitions still in place.

The man has no idea what the truth is. He says whatever he thinks will win him support. FAIL!

No, he does not say what will gain him support,
instead he says what will promote his goals.

There is a difference, a big difference.

Given that this is in a school room not a press conference, the only source of video that will get out will be what the administration controls. Kids aren't allowed to be using that stuff in the classroom.

Even accepting your premise however, how hard is it to deliver a simple speech to 6th graders. Does he need his teleprompter when he meets and bows to foreign leaders too? That's a much more critical meeting than a room of 6th graders.

Seriously, look at the set up they have. Only a puppet needs that much control over such a simple speech.

Trust me when I say there were more than 6th graders in that room! At the very least there was most of the teachers, principal, school superintendant,etc... A WH staff lead or two, at minimum a group of AP press who are full-time assigned to WH coverage, and a couple of my former co-workers who had to set up all that crap and the podium.
And that is a tiny setup. That's the medium sized lectern (there are 3 different sizes).
But yes... the tele's are a bit much if he was there only talking to who is in that room. Most likely it was televised live locally and probably the official announcement of some new 'program' or something.
And yes, every semi-public speech is transcribed by WH Press Office staffers. They were a fun group to be around during the previous administration.

You got it . . . I served with The White House Advance Office for 2 years . . the WHCA and Technical Services folks were busy.

Funniest thing (wasn't at the time) was when we forgot to place the seal on the podium and I had to scramble out at the last minute.

Yeah, there's nothing like strolling out onto the stage in front of 10,000 people that are eagerly waiting for the #1 visitor to their town. There is a noticeable hush when you approach the podium, you carefully hang the seal and pray to God almighty that it doesn't fall when you let go of it. You step back to make sure it's straight and a roaring applause fills the place. Not sure why they always did that... :/ But it was cool to be a rock star for a few seconds.

btw Court... I got the "25yrs" book for Christmas...GREAT!!! Thanx!
