This is an odd one, but I know we've got some engineer types on here so thought I'd ask. We heat our house with a wood pellet stove; have since 1999. Great stuff...but I keep going through bearings on the blower motor. This time, I'm gonna replace the bearings instead of just buying a(nother) new damned motor for $150. Motor's working fine, I cleaned the hamster wheel and the cage while I had it apart...it's just the bearings going bad. I experimented with the dead soldier this time, and it comes apart easily enough; I just need to press the new ones on properly, that's going to be the hard part. What happens is, the seals on the bearings overheat (they are literally less than 2" from the heat source on the stove - a metal pot full of burning fuel), they dry out, crack, and the bearings run dry. What's in it now are 608S 8x22x7mm bearings, qty. 2. From what I can tell...these are freakin' SKATEBOARD bearings. There are all sorts of variations on these things. Basically I need something rated for high heat, preferably no maintenance (they're a bitch to get in and out). 3,000 rpm motor, fairly constant use during the season. Like 23 out of 24 hours if we forgot to fill the hopper before going to work; 24/24 if we remember. Dusty environment, so I - although I like the idea - hesitate to use unsealed ceramics just because they'd get filled with so much crap. We've got a good electric motor house in town; I'm gonna go ask them what they recommend, but I figured while I'm here soaking up coffee I'd go ahead and ask the Buellers |

If you have a Motion Industries in town - go there. They have been very helpful with my "stupid questions" - and will sell without a minimum order. https://www.motionindustries.com/ |

I'd ask a bearing house. I don't know what it's like in MD, but around here, we have several bearing houses within a 30 mile radius. |

Motion is THE bearing house in town. Everything from oilite bushings up to ceramic bearings... and at least at the local house, they're helpful - though they're individually managed so the "helpfulness" is probably as much of a crapshoot as finding support at Hardley dealership |

2 Motions in MD - nowhere nearby I'll try our electric motor shop first. I know I've gotten stuff from them in the past for car hubs and stuff. Looking around the interweb, there appear to be countless variations on the 8x22x7, I just need someone who can translate and tell me if I need a ZZ, or whatever. And careful, Slaughter. I resemble that remark as an employee of a House-O-Chrome |

what kind of speed does the motor run at? there is a C3 version of bearings available that has extra clearance for hot, or high speed running |

If they are skateboard bearings you might try these. vxb Ceramic:Stainless:Shielded Dry bearing (Message edited by davefl on January 28, 2010) (Message edited by davefl on January 28, 2010) |

Joe, sounds like the blower's mounted to close to the fire box. I had the same problem with a wood burning furnace, was replacing bearings annually. Got tired of it and moved the blower up in the ductwork about 3 foot and never had any more problems. (Message edited by jramsey on January 28, 2010) |

NTN bearing basic seal-shield types (like XB wheel bearings). Note temp ranges. http://www.who-sells-it.com/cy/ntn-corporation-jap an-1284/ball-bearings-shield-and-seal-types-4119/p age-4-fullsize.html |
