Nice sales tactic.

Push the HD line.
But you do have a Buell I like in the showroom.

What sales tactic?

What HD line is being pushed?

Which Buell? I'll wrap it up for you.

Gotta give a little cheese with the "whiners" beeyotching, Granpoohbah.

You're lacking depth to your argument, and substance.

I spent 4.5 years selling them. HD corporate never really knew WTF to do with them- in the modern economy, let's just say they were the 18 YO Red Headed Stepchild. HD had adopted an adorable little Italian urchin, wanting to be the sugar daddy, but bailed on that too- return to sender.

What Jeremy said, +1:

I often thought of a Screaming Eagle Sportster with Buell/Pegasus Performance Parts, carbon fiber all over the bike- customized frames on up- in an efficient assembly by hand, Buell/Pegasus production values and Branding that is...

I'm gonna have weird dreams when I go to sleep.

Oh hey Jeremy- you forgot the 4th frame, the P3Blast. Now known as the Cube.

Why didn't they morph that into a diversified beginner's line? AND dirtbikes?!?!?

Soichoro Honda is laughing in his grave. At the fags.

Long Live/Race EBR!!!!!

I love the promo pic, it looks like the guy in the "Ratfink" t-shirt has just grabbed Willie's arse, & he's liking it.

Another parts-bin special, yawn, I reckon it's called a "48" as that's probably the IQ of it's projected market.

I'll stick with my "Blank Canvas" & eat any sporty for breakfast with it.

This may outdo the XR1200.

To date the XR1200 is the greatest fiasco in Harley-Davidson's history.

The original $5,000,000 budget went over $15,000,000 and the project (damn transmission troubles) went two years past schedule. We all recall the "no really . . any day now" advertising. You may have noticed some big names who "left to pursue other interests".

To date they've sold less than 500 units at retail. LOTS of folks look at them but the $12,000 ticket for a platform of rolling compromises that has little or nothing to do with rekindling an memories of a "real" XR leaves folks looking and walking.

I love Sportsters and have owned many of them. The XR kinda caught me eye but I was quickly in the "hey, why not just buy an 883 for $6,000 less and do what I REALLY want.

Let's see how they sell.

I have a 2003 sporty sitting in the garage.... pretty much stock, but slammed down on the deck for the ex. It needs to be redone to make it rideable for me.
(got ride of the ex, kept the bike, pretty good trade)

1) Dirt bike
2) Cafe bike
3) Flat tracker
4) Bobber (feeling that is played out)
5) Fatster kit with heritage bags....

decisions decisions decisions.

I think it's a nice looking bike, as I'm partial to the bobber look. Not fond of the 2.1 gallon tank. 100 mile range is a deal-breaker for me.

Low clearance sucks too. I was dragging pegs on a Nightster I demoed...taking a right hand turn on a residential street! Maybe the forward controls let you corner without shooting sparks at the dealer chaperone behind you?

I assume the "48" is a reference to the year 1948, as in the bobber style it's emulating. It has 60 horsepower (79 ft pounds of torque x 4000 rpms / 5252 = 60.16hp).

In comparison, the $25,000 CVO Fat Bob has a 113 cu in engine and pushes 75 hp, and it weighs 719 pounds. I demoed one, I was really unimpressed. Less horsepower than my stock Buell at twice the weight and price.

HD's just are not performance bikes...well, maybe the StreetRod. : )

I'll bet ..... Now that it looms lime they may come up shy on cash to repay their loans coming due in May .... That they wish they had some of those pissed away millions, and the $109,000,000 from MV Agusta back.

How's that MV Agusta sale coming along? I recall all tne predictions that buyers would be lined up to get their hands on the classic marque.

Buffet (who actually **IS** related to Jimmy Buffet) will not own Buell although, given who one of the two parties to have expressed interest to me was, that could happen.

It's more likely he'd end up owning Harley-Davidson. But . . as long as he's got $600,000,000 sitting there at a higher interest rate than I pay on my credit card . . . you can bet he wants them at least alive and kicking.

Harley completely blew their 4Q projections and guidance. I suppose some folks are buying the "India will save" us line but I'm not swallowing it so quickly given the chicanery (no kidding they actually bought mangoes from a guy to induce the loosening of some import tariffs) they pulled to get in, the traditional predisposition of the Indian people (who weight in at like 115#) for smaller bikes and the entrenched Honda waiting to take HD on in a country with no trade (i.e. anti-dumping) laws like the USA . . well, I'm eager to see what happens but I'm glad it's not my ass on the line.

quote:

This summer, U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) asked the Obama administration about a trade swap that would have allowed Harley to export bikes to India in exchange for India exporting mangoes to the United States.

By the way . . . the Mangos story (I posted some of the links since I was called a liar the last time I mentioned this) gets LOTS better because of WHO Harlet-Davidson has brokering the deal.

I see the stock price has been under the overpriced 27 dollar mark for over a month.

It closed at 27 on Oct 15th 2009. How about some cake and a round of applause for these dum fags at the factory?

Too funny. A "new" bike! Sportsters are overweight and underpowered, but they do look good. They never should have rubber-mounted the engine and added 50+lbs.
I had a '02 1200S, it was fun. I had a '08 Nightster, it was not.

I like the Bobber look, and especially like the one I posted a couple of lines up. It wouldn't be for the corners though. Just cruising around town and a few miles out of town. I just like the look of the minimal body work, the big tires, etc. I wouldn't want to pay their higher price for a new one though.

Maybe around 8,000 or so. You can get some cool triumphs and other bikes for that kind of money. Personally I like the Royal Enfield Classic unit construction motor.

Too bad about the XR 1200. This could have really been a big hit for them...it will probably end up being like the cafe racer. Everyone will want one later.

They made the XR too heavy, and it doesn't look like the Flat Tracker. What a shame.

Its named the 48 'cause the peanut tank came out in 1948. $10,499 MSRP

Hey its easy to bash the MOCO 'cause we all love our Buells and will for a long time.
things to remember: everyone bashed AMF for what they did to Harley but if it wasn't for them there would not be a Harley MOCO.

I might start a big fire here buy if Harley didn't buy into Buell 15+ years ago would we have the great bikes we ride and love now?

Court brings up a good point.

Jimmy Buffett could make a HELL of a CEO.

Motorcycling is supposed to be FUN, right? Guy knows a thing or two about that...and has a helluva Margaritaville empire to show he has at least a little business sense.

hd hate is not all about Buell, its been running long and hard in the shadows since AMF. Its arrogant way they do business and do not care about the customer or how they waste money. hd should be one of the greatest companys in America but they just act like fools and squander our money.

Now who, what if , why didnt, we wouldnt be here, bla bla bla that shit why dont ya.
