City,

Another great song from that same era, written in 1961. The story behind the conception of its lyrics is interesting.

Staying at the Willard Hotel in Washington on the night of November 18, 1861, Julia Ward Howe awoke with the words of the song in her mind and in near darkness wrote the verses to the "Battle Hymn of the Republic". Of the writing of the lyrics, Howe remembered, "I went to bed that night as usual, and slept, according to my wont, quite soundly. I awoke in the gray of the morning twilight; and as I lay waiting for the dawn, the long lines of the desired poem began to twine themselves in my mind.

Having thought out all the stanzas, I said to myself, 'I must get up and write these verses down, lest I fall asleep again and forget them.' So, with a sudden effort, I sprang out of bed, and found in the dimness an old stump of a pen which I remembered to have used the day before. I scrawled the verses almost without looking at the paper."

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord:
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword:
His truth is marching on.

(Chorus)
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps,
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps:
His day is marching on.

(Chorus)
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His day is marching on.

I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel:
"As ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace shall deal;
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel,
Since God is marching on."

(Chorus)
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Since God is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat:
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on.

(Chorus)
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Our God is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
While God is marching on.

(Chorus)
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
While God is marching on.

He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
He is Wisdom to the mighty, He is Succour to the brave,
So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of Time His slave,
Our God is marching on.

(Chorus)
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Our God is marching on.

A new day of irony, sent to meet Allah, by ordinance guided by Allah.

Actually that is exactly what it will take. When rank and file Muslims turn against the radical terrorist members, cells, fund raising and training camps. Until then.... well it is as effective as stopping a dishwasher leak with a kitchen sponge.

From what I've seen the quotes are almost a play on words. The scope is internally illuminated. Which leads me to believe that's why certain quotes were chosen. You'll notice most, if not all, of the verses chosen revolved around light or shinning light into darkness.

It comes off to me as being like Jules quoting Ezekiel 25:17 in Pulp Fiction.

"I never gave much thought to what it meant. I just thought it was just some cold blooded shit to say to a mother before I popped a cap in his ass"

Home grown... N. Idaho, W. Montana, and S. Utah. Yep we watched them too. Get that pesky constitution out of the way and we can kill em where they sleep and skip the court charade.

Thankfully, our constitution does protect those guys in Idaho as long as they're just talking gibberish and playing soldier in the forest.

What's painful for almost all of use to realize (me included) is that the only speech that needs protection is offensive speech.

Spiderman, You try to compare 2 unrelated lone wolf terrorists with the organized group of Muslim radical terrorists that currently exist in the world. Get real, there is no comparison.

About the whole message on the scope thing. I understand that the guy that started this whole controversy is part of a "freedom from religion" group. Using the argument that religions references will offend those of another religion when your real agenda is elimination of all religion is the height of hypocrisy.

Those thinking that these scopes are going to be taken out of service are wrong. Trijicon is simply removing the references from the scopes.

This post ended the last page on this thread so I copied/pasted again - if for no other reason just to irritate people:

I think that you all are confusing OUR First Amendment with the Military's prohibition against proselytizing while in OTHER PEOPLE'S countries. We're NOT missionaries over there.

We gotta realize we are training and equipping MOSLEMS to KILL MOSLEMS. If there is a chance that they're not gonna pull the trigger because it's offensive to their religion, I think that might become an operational issue. If I had a bunch of indigenous folks working with me, I'd sure as shit not want to be wondering about this.

All this talk about pork, dogs, lobster and ugly virgins has nothing to do with anything if what we NEED to do is get the locals trained and motivated so we can GET THE HELL OUT OF THAT SHITHOLE.

OF course, if we want to carry the ball ourselves and not get any local help, let's bring in our bibles and burning crosses... just let's make dang sure we're not going into combat with no dang Papists or Hebes. This should be a nice Protestant war. The last Crusade was &^*%ed up because it was run by the Papists. We gotta keep them danged Hebes outta this one too because they have their own agenda in the Middle East.

Let's keep this war "OUR" war.

What Trijicon should have done was make those verse numbers their scope model numbers or part of the actual serial number. An acronym if you will. "The JN8:12 is the 'J' series Nightvision scope; mark 8, mod 12." Then what could anybody say? Nothing. As long as Trijicon never, ever stated or documented that they were bible references. If anybody made the claim, then it's simply that person's opinion.
And that's simply my opinion.
I seem to remember a big blowup when the band 311 came out and some paranoid, angry-agenda idiot said that they were racist saying that it meant three of the eleventh letter of the alphabet (K). When they actually got the name from a police radio code or something.

So then XB12S means 'C'hrist, 'B'orn in the '12'th month is the 'S'avior.

Gee, acronym trashing is fun! Try one!

"It allows the Mujahedeen, the Taliban, al Qaeda and the insurrectionists and jihadists to claim they're being shot by Jesus rifles,"

"It's literally pushing fundamentalist Christianity at the point of a gun against the people that we're fighting. We're emboldening an enemy."

WTF!! THATS NONSENCE!!!

Oh, wait...I get it.. this is to send a message to the Talibon and Alqueda!!! This,... along with the closing of Guantamino, the stoppage of waterboarding, the trials happening in NYC, ...etc. etc. They will finally realize they are fighting for no reason and stop. And we will all live in peace and harmony. Thats the plan I guess.

Don't you think troops are using pigs blood already?? I mean.... a 10% solution of pig's blood... mixed with another liquid... sprayed with a bottle onto ammunition just after it's manufactured or before it's loaded.

I wonder if we can create a fund... to send windex bottles or whatever filled with a solution for troops the spray their ammo with. (80% water + 10% pigblood)
Maybe we could also drop little pig pamphlets giving a warning. We gots lots of pig farms in jersey...and Mcguire AFB.

Liberals never mention weather underground. Its as if they have been hurt by christians or been taught to hate them. The only group spewing hate on a daily basis in my life is radical hypocrats.

One hypocrat on the du talks about how clear it is after the mass election that libs are going to have to use violence to make the US right.

And the threat was from a 'towel head'??

No he was an African Muslim, so a black guy, my point isn't that terrorism isn't real or that the majority is Muslim (not Arabic because apparently you haven't heard of Chaldeans)

My point is your racist undertones toward Arabs and non-terrorist Muslims and your clear intent of being a terrorist and threatening someone else, who has a different religious view from you, by dropping pigs into their region. Why should innocent Muslims be affected because a few guilty al queda may be hanging around?

That's like nuking a priest convention because a few priests turned out to be molesters...
