A user named Mike wrote on the fan Web site "Naviblue" that he contemplated suicide after seeing the movie.

"Ever since I went to see 'Avatar' I have been depressed. Watching the wonderful world of Pandora and all the Na'vi made me want to be one of them. I can't stop thinking about all the things that happened in the film and all of the tears and shivers I got from it," Mike posted. "I even contemplate suicide thinking that if I do it I will be rebirthed in a world similar to Pandora and the everything is the same as in 'Avatar.' "

OMG

Im sorry but thats just sad, and not in a good way.

Kinda like that cult who killed themselves cause Jesus was on the spaceship behind the asteroid.

I think this further reinforces that i wont ever see that movie.

Darwin needs about 100 million assistants...............and that's just in USA.There is an incredible large amount of people that just ain't right. Some at no fault of there own. Some can be fix. Some can't....Rosie O'donnnel, for example.

It's a MOVIE.

If someone gets sent over the 'edge' by watching it, maybe there's already a problem, prior to buying that ticket.

I haven't seen it yet, but if a bunch of CG characters can draw that kind of emotional response, I'd say there's some really good writing and direction!

Considering Avatar is the most expensive movie made to date, it better have good writing. The video game sucked on the other hand, you can play as either Na'vi or Humans but playing as a Na'vi is suicide. Bows against rockets...do the math.

Does prove a good point though, what humans would do to a planet for its resources.

Chyea, I've tried countless hours. So I said 'f*ck this shit!' and sided with the humans. Flying creatures don't fair well against futuristic V22 Ospreys. In fact, it reminded me of the old west, Indians with bows, and the US with revolvers, repeating rifles, Gatling guns, 6 pounders, you name it.

What did they do it for back then? Land, gold, lots of stuff. What did they do it for in Avatar? That Unobtanium element. Humans are ravaging savages, I can't see why we needed a 500 million dollar movie to present it to us.

I heard my boss bitching about it because Sigourney Weaver is a doc who smokes. Blah blah blah, 'A doctor who smokes? C'mon' It's a movie, not reality.

i could imagine that playing as the na'vi would be suicide....they pretty much lost the war in the movie if it wasnt for that hammerhead rhino, or the banshis!

somebody told me that this movie was the second largest selling movie ever...only beat by the titanic...not sure if its true, but who knows, it seems pretty popular, i thought the 3D and graphics were the best part!

(i saw it with a friend for the first time, and we were both a little bored, so when the main character first got his dragon thing to ride, my friend said that buells are more fun to ride. and so everytime we saw a dragon in the movie, we'd name it after a bike, and once he got that big orange dragon my friends like so wth is that a busa? ha ha)

(did anybody else think that his little girlfriend taught him how to counter steer the dragon while they were both sitting on that cliff together after he earned his dragon?....b/c i sure did ha ha)

To my knowledge, I've heard it cost more to make than the Titanic, and actually did a bit better than Titanic did. Both were made by James Cameron so go figure.

Can't forget The Abyss either, that cost a shit ton to produce. And, featured more scientific sci-fi goodies, like 'Liquid Breathing'. Instead of breathing air, or heliox or trimix, or wearing a bulky atmospheric dive suit, you would breath liquid, thus imparting the same pressure all around your body thus being able to dive to extreme depths without decompression. It's worked on lab rats but no human has yet tried.

it looked like it was made just for 13 year old boys. the dialog in the previews was horrible and the story is WAY overdone.

I stayed away from it.
Mike's blurb just confirms the intellectual content and mental capacity of the target audience.

that said graphically it looks very impressive, if it wasn't so expensive or potentially frustrating, considering the content; I may consider seeing it for the visual elements alone.

Try watching the movie (in IMAX 3d) when you have a bum leg.

SPOILER ALERT

The scene where he tries on the Avatar the first time and goes for a run.....brought tears to my eyes.
I could picture being there doing the SAME thing! Getting me out of the Avatar body would have been
the trick. Energy drinks, stimulants, anything to stay awake a little longer in a fully
functional body!

I was a little dazed for a while after watching the movie, but it was information overload.

When you consider the millions that have seen the film, it's not surprising that a few mentally unstable people will read something into it that's not there.

Guell, go see the film or not it's your choice, but base your choice on the views of people you know, rather than unknown loonies on the internet.

It's a visually stunning experience & worth the admission for that alone.

The plot? meh, Dances With Wolves meets Apocalypse Now in Star Wars land.

I'm not a diver, so; what you say may be true about decompression but a diver's body would still be affected by the enormous pressure. Just because you're lungs are filled with oxygen doesn't prevent them from being squeezed by the pressure at depth.

Maybe it's causing depression because it's racist!

http://www.theweek.com/article/index/104466/Avatar s_ugly_message

Is this crap ever going to end? Enough is enough with the psychoanalysis and everything being "racist". Disney finally puts out a movie with a black princess and that's still not enough because the prince isn't "identifiably black".

That sorry SOB should really take a look at world politics, everything in Avatar had a political undertone and Cameron even admitted to it in several interviews. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/politics-avatar-con servatives-attack-movies-political-messaging/story ?id=9484885

If that poor sucker would open his/her eyes and look at the world, they would off themselves. Hopefully another 5+ billion people would follow along.

Depressed about Avatar?
These are the same half wits that felt a personal connection to Michael Jackson when he passed.
(or Elvis, or Belushi, or Lennon ...)
I have never understood it. So you may have seen him in concert once ... or maybe you spent your youth watching the over played videos on Mtv.... its recorded media; pick it up from Amazon for 4.99 +s/h. get over it.

Wheres that Aussie clip about HTFU?

The story of Avatar is quite similar to Fern Gully but way better. If you like movies you owe it to yourself to go see it in 3D because if you don't you will be kicking yourself when you rent the DVD. Visually there is no movie better. That alone was worth the price of admission for me twice so far. Absolutely beautiful. See it and just enjoy the show without looking for an Oscar winning story.

It seems a movie isn't just a movie anymore. I saw Avatar in 3D and I simply enjoyed it for the escapist entertainment that it was. All of James Cameron's hard work was wasted on me it seems.

i've seen the movie twice, both times in Imax 3d. And Really enjoyed the movie. Not depressing at all. But i pretty sure that 3D and the visuals make the movie and it wouldn't be the same or as good in 2D. The best part of that article is the dude in the 2nd row eating the pizza..
