luckily my joe rocket boots with one pair of socks keep my feet pretty warm. outside of a little air the head wasn't to bad and enough layers that the torso wasn't to bad either. invest in the hippo hands or equivalent. of course by the time i ordered them now the cold spell would be over.

Going faster just makes it worse

Ahhhh....the Rider's Dilemma:

Do I go faster, and be colder, for not as long?

Do I go slower, be not as cold, but it takes longer?

Holy Crap! I rode on Saturday a.m. before I went into work, it was cold and raining! I found out that the pants that I bought for rain, aren't for rain at all! My over pants, my jeans, my under layer of pants, and even my underwear were wet! My boots are not waterproof, but lucky for me I carry socks in my saddle bag locked away in a ziplock with my camera. My hands were frigid and wet, and while I loved every minute of the ride, I was more than bummed when I got to work and discovered that we do not have heat! One of my customers, ex soldier in the ARMY came to my rescue!, he carries an army back pack with extra clothes, and an extra pair of boots, and he is my size!

I have since tried a few different gloves, or glove combinations, and none of them are quite right. I need some heated gloves, but cannot afford $150, that is one monthly payment on the BUELL for me. I may order some battery operated gloves online for $29.

Thanks for all of the input, I really appreciate it! Stay warm and be safe!

Guaranteed you won't have them with you some day when yo wish you did. That's why the heated grip options always seem best to me.
You can set yourself up for cheap, also.

i'm gonna look into the handlebar mits. see if a local metric shop might have them.

what part of ft lauderdale do you live in tep. we had a house right behind maroon chevrolet off of 441 there in hollywood back in 85-87. still have a couple friends down there.

my little brother has to drop off a load down there tomorrow morning and hopefully he can swing back this way on his way out of the state. also got a niece coming on through to go to the keys sometime this week.

Amy you will find that those battery powered gloves we EAT batteries. In FL heated grips or even better a good pair of winter gloves will do you hands well.

They used to call them "Hippo Hands", I had a pair in the 70's.

Nevrenuf-

I live right in the middle of broward county by 595 and 441. I work at cycle lab, on 441 about quarter mile north of 595. tell your family to stop into the shop anytime!

if that's where i'm thinking, it's not to far away from the bingo place.

looks like the niece isn'g going to spend to much time down in the keys and my little brother should be showing up down there in the morning, so i'll be looking forward to hearing from him to see what part of ft lauderdale he's at.

Round $30 for heated grip elements that go in under your grips, I got some as a gift a year or so ago.

Big, nasty, ugly switch on them though... I'm pretty sure a donor turn-signal switch can be installed on the right side switch gear where there is a small blank plate.

I'll post pics in a day or so when I get through the project.

The biggest thing I've found - barring *buying* something - is stopping wind leaks. Tuck your shirt into your pants, and your sweatshirt if you're wearing one. Tuck your pants into your boots. Wear a turtleneck or mock turtle tee - I wear NikeFit base layers, they were on sale after Xmas - and get either a neck gaiter or a balaclava (probably overkill for FL). Get gauntlet gloves with the long cuff, they'll overlap the ends of your jacket sleeves and keep wind out of your hands and your arms.

Also - Gerbings makes heated glove *liners*. I'm getting ready to try a set so I can keep my armored gloves on year round for protection. Gerbings guy says I may need to go up a size on gloves...but I'm OK with that.

Again, though....you don't have to remember to check the weather and pack a set of grips if you think you'll need 'em. They're always there. IF you're going to spend money, especially in your climate...well, that's the way I'd go. The Buell kit is about $185, but as noted above there are other less expensive options as well.

These folks list six available at $159 plus $10.50 for postal priority mail.
So if you want plug and play with the bike's wiring harness you can get it for almost $20 less than list. I hesitate to list this here since I'd like to get a set myself but can't bid at the moment:
