+1 to The Legend of Boggy Creek. How about Night of the Living Dead? For recent flicks I have to say Signs. That movie creeps me out, though it is bad.

"Village of the Damned" has the identical children. Excellent movie.

The Evil Dead films are parodies, yet actually work as horror movies. I pick "Army Of Darkness" for a lot of reasons. But the last minutes in the store....priceless!

Carpenter did a good job IMHO remaking both "Village of the Damned" and "The Thing". ( "The Thing" is from a John W. Campbell story called "Who Goes There?", classic Sci-fi. )
He updated for a more modern sensibility and special effects. Really, the original "The Thing" had James Arness as a human carrot. Still a scary movie.

"Them" THE classic giant ant film. Nightmares from that one.
Too close to action genre? Alien was pure horror, in the haunted house/killer animal modes. ( they did the cat bit twice!) Aliens ( the sequel ) was more action hero horror, with Ripley as the first modern female action hero. Yet still a horror film. IMHO Priceless dialog in Aliens too. Lines that have become the meme.

Aesquire- my family has been quoting "Aliens" for years: "Look into my eye", "I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure", "they come at night, mostly", "she's just a piece of plastic", etc. We named our dog "Newt" after the little girl in the movie.

One of my favorite movies ever. I'm still pissed about Alien 3!

funny i just watched the prophecy the other night, i was feeling nostalgic and got it from netflix. was a hell of alot better in 1979 when i was 11. but to this day the exorcist still scares me. it would be my vote for scariest movie ever made.

Actually guys you were both right...It was Evil Dead 2-Army of darkness! I remember because the screaming scene where the chick swallows the crone eye always made me giggle!

Jaws is creepy in a very real way (as is The deep blue Sea)

Saw 1 & 2 movies were clever and very graphically scary. But I went off them after no.3 when they just got gross instead of clever.

Pet Semetary was a childhood scary of mine-I can't walk past a bed without my archilles tendon tightening up just that little bit...

Pffft Lost boys wasn't scary...it was cool!

There's a show on cable called "A Wedding Story". Scary crap! Then if that don't have you crapping your shorts, there's an even scarier one called "A Baby Story". Too scary for me to watch.

Steven Kings IT scared the shit out me when I was a kid. And the 1st Childsplay did the same when I was little. Oh ya and The Fly. A newer good scary movie was the remake of Last House On The Left not really scary but I liked it. Head in the microwave and hand in the garbage disposal AWSOME!!!!

Mr. Frost. Jeff Goldblum plays a really likeable character who is truly evil and horrible; something really unsettling about that.

The special effects from way back suck compared to today so prepare yourself... most horror movies from the 70's & 80's make me laugh these days

Check out Phantasm... its just weird, but there is a scene with a drill that gave me messed up dreams for awhile...

Has anyone seen, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

I saw a review of top 10 horror films this past Halloween and it looked pretty good.
I had never even heard of it....

1. "The Tingler" w/ Vincent Price. I remember watching this with my younger brothers in the early '70's's on TV - Fright Night Friday. It scrared the crap out of all four of us!!

2. "Alien" WOW!!

3. "The Thing" w/ Kurt Russell. I still don't want to watch it when it's on!!

We had a creek that ran along the back edge of our property so any of "The Creature From the Black Lagoon" films made all of us worry if they were true when I was a kid. My Mom still laughs about that. Not funny, Mom!!
