Looking around trying to figure out what to get the wife for her car, and spending time on Garmin's site (and ebay). She wants BT and traffic, and doesn't need waterproof. Got her a nuvi 205w and it keeps crashing, so we're going to upgrade, probably to a 265wt or the 765t depending on $. The widescreen display is nice when it's "all the way out there" on a windshield, compared to sitting on a handlebar like my Quest2.

But all this poking around has me thinking - never a good thing. I like the touch screen on the 205w, and the 3d maps are pretty cool. And Garmin still has the specs for the StreetPilot 2600/2700/2800 series on the website, which looks to be a cross between the Quest2 that I use now - small size, waterproof - and the nuvi / zumo550 with the touch screen.

Much as I *like* satellite radio capability...I have an iPod and it keeps me from having to get another subscription. I do like FM traffic availability though. And even though they're discontinued, it looks like the streetpilot 2600/2700/2800 series has most of what I want. They don't have a battery, so they're plugged-in-use only...but the only time I really use my Quest unplugged is if I'm updating a route at a restaraunt table or something.

I also REALLY dig the light sensing screen dimmer!

So...anyone have any experience with these?

I own three 265WT's. Nice unit, would be perfect for the lady. Traffic feature is nice, and the funny thing is that when you are in a traffic area, you get spam on your GPS.

I have a Streetpilot 2720. It's a great MC unit if you can find one. The protective layer on my screen delaminated and peeled off but the unit still works fine. This was not a fault of Garmins, my wife used the unit in the car and gouged the screen which allowed water to get between the layers

Garmin will completely refurbish a 2600/2700/2800 series for $180, which is way cheaper than getting any Zumo or Rider unit. I'm sending mine off soon. If you can find one cheap on E-Bay, even in non-working condition, this might be an option.

Yeah, the street pilot series is not small by any means- probably close to twice the sice of your quest. I was considering one for the bike when I had my firebolt but decided it was just too damned big to be able to mount it anywhere and got a Zumo instead.

I would try to find something in the Nuvi series that fits your needs - just about all of my friends have them and are very happy.

The only problem with nuvi's is...no waterproof. We're getting her one for the car, but for the bike it looks like I'm stuck either StreetPilot, or Zumo. And the zumo, to me, looks like a freakin' flatscreen strapped to the handlebars!

I'll just keep rollin' with the Quest. It doesn't have touch screen - which makes entering text a PITA - but it refuses to die : )
