damnit, thanks for the tear jerker Its a story about a couple in Ukraine before the war and when the Soviets came to steal the men and forcefully into Red Army Service. The news bulletin in the background what that Soviet Father Stalin calls on your heroism to support the grand war. The transformation of the woman, to the sons mother and praying at the monument was amazing. (she had the notice that her son had died in the envelope) Its a very sad song indeed. She puts the UPS white board guy to shame. The end notation was Tbu Bcegda Padou... May you always be happy (now) 1945 The end of the great patriotic war. | ||

that was amazing. I wish I had even a sliver of that creativity in me. My wife was in tears when we were watching it because I had read what it was about and told her. Tough stuff. Glad she was eventually the winner. | ||

Thanks Slicker, I caught that there were members of the audience that were crying but had no idea of why, what a beautyful performance, If i have it right she was given a standing ovation, I presume that it is the same in modern russian culture as it is here. | ||

WWII was different for the Soviets. The academics, artists and top military were executed, disappeared or displaced during the purges. Stalin was a pure paranoid oligarch, killed off 6-7 million of his own people with his rampant suspiscion. If you were smart or powerful, your head was on the block as you were a threat. The out laying republics were forced into conscription because the core of the Red Army was gutted. It was not a volunteer force like it was here in the US. Russian was an imposed language on Ukraine during the 20s, the national language and culture was suppressed by the Soviet Communist Party. A very sad time indeed. You can get by in the Ukraine speaking Russian, for some reason they all think my accent is from Georgia Cavkaz anyways. (apparently I cuss a bit too much and elipse the endings like a drill sargeant) I suppose it beats being accused of being a tourist  | ||
