Cool : ) So, just to be sure, this is where we're talking about?

"In December 2004, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que opened in Harlem, NY. This location has contributed to the pioneering of a unique section of Harlem. Nestled under the grandiose Riverside Dr. bridge, this place possess the same charisma, style, and flavor of its upstate counterparts. Harlem Dinosaur has become a favorite destination for Manhattanites, locals, and everyone in the tri-state area.

Hmmm... Had no idea they opened a Dino down there. We've got one in Rochester (upstate) and I think the first one was in Syracuse. It's a good place - yummy eats, free live blues every night. Has some good honest character about it. Draws a lot of Harley's in decent weather.

Ok...it's getting closer to the bit where we start to ask things like clueless tourists. First question will be...
1.Which is the best car hire company to use for a one way trip from NYC to Columbus?
(I'll get back to you with the rest!)

You can't go wrong with Hertz. May not be the cheapest but they have drop off & pick up locations everywhere

i would look online and look at there one way policies also vamp. renting one way is always more but you want to make sure they don't tryn and charge you mileage or some other half baked thing either for doing that.

+1 on Hertz, not the cheapest but they don't nitpick on every little thing. Double check insurance coverage, as if it is available through your credit card (and applicable in the USA) might save quite a few bucks over the course of the rental. That way you can decline LDW/PAW/etc. Also, some insurance coverage (through the rental agency or your credit card) have limits on duration, additional drivers, etc that are worth scrutinizing the fine print.

Some rental pickup locations at airports slap a local airport tax, which over the long haul could add up and may make it worth the hassle of a local pickup outside the airport. This is where Enterprise with their pickup/dropoff service may come in handy.

A local pay-as-you-go phone would be handy. I've a spare (nothing special) GPS if you need and can send it out prior to your arrival.

Being both a former employee AND a stockholder, I'd go with Avis. I use them almost exclusively and have no issues.

We did it!!!!! Yeehaaa!
Flights booked to depart the land down under on the 28th May into LA.
(it's very exciting in the V & Chili house tonight!!)
I think it's finally sunk in that it's all happening.
Plans will change a little with the flight date coming forward, but so far the date for Dinosaur should stay the same.
We fly back home out of Columbus-LA-Brisbane on the 23rd June. So much to fit into so little time. We intend to well make the most of it though.
See you all soon!!!!!

At the airport, there are probably 7-8 rental car companies. Twice a year, a friend and I go to Nascar, and rent from the nearest airport. Do research of all of the car companies. You never know when a good deal is going to show up. Also, when you pick up the car, ask for an upgrade. It's usually cheap (another $4-10 a day), and you may wind up in a Dodge Charger, or something that winds up adding to the "fun" factor.

Thanks Gunut-tips are all handy. Was hoping to get something a little more 'fun' anyhow. Maybe not the corvette Chili was hoping for, but a charger was on the list.

Wow, you guys are bold out there in C-bus. Around here, advertising is discouraged. We have to look for the Mercedes parked in front of the burned out apartment building.
