The Polar Bear Ride was today.... so I broke out all the cold riding gear I thought I would need and headed out for the 40 mile ride to the Flying J truck stop a few miles north of Columbus. It was/is in the low 20's today so the wind chill was going to be GOOD! Well... after about 6 miles of riding I needed to pass someone on 71. I attempted to roll on the throttle and it wouldn't move. I put a little more effort into it but it would barely move... GREAT!! At this point I had about 30 more miles to go..... I thought about turning around, then I figured if I needed help I could find some local badwebber to help me out. Once the bike sat for a few minutes in the parking lot the throttle started working. I stuffed a towel in the left side scoop for the return trip home and that worked for about 8 miles this time.... First time I have ever had that happen...   all that for this!  | ||

try some heet in the gas. There is another brand of gas additive that I used on my 4-wheeler when that happened but I can't remember the name of that product. The moisture in the gas freezes and that's where the problem starts. | ||

In NY there is a midnight ride sometime in February, last year the turnout was roughly a hundred bikes, and we have a race on the streets and at the end of the 100+ miles you get a medal  As for your issue, I had a similar problem, ended up being the throttle cables. Try lubing them. | ||

I was looking into heated vests and trousers as well as gloves but I aint got the money right now . I did see a hunting thing with doubleAA batteries vest and gloves for like $49 might check em out | ||

What happens is that the air speeds up past the throttle blade which cools the throttle blade to some really cold temps. Any moisture/humidity in the air then freezes to the throttle blade and body as the air is drawn into the engine. The only fix is to get warmer air into the intake or heat the throttle body...just a thought. Maybe open and close the throttle alot. Snowmobiles have highly polished chrome slides making it difficult for the moisture to stick to the surface of the slide. Congratulations, I see snow on the road! Some snowmobiles and cars have engine coolant run through the T/B's or carb's to prevent freezing from cold and moist air. Looks like fun but those roads look slick. | ||

It was too warm to ride in East Tennessee today to make a comment that would compare. I think we nearly hit 38F.  It sounds like you got some water in your gas Mark. Try a different gas station next tank. This time of year, the busier a gas station is the better off your gas tank is. | ||

The Uly is about to get new throttle and clutch cables. I just turned 45,000 miles to day, so its getting full service pretty soon. | ||

I would attempt it, but would not make it far. The Blast has a drag slick, and the CR has the cords showing. The R is my only ridable bike with treads, and currently is my only bike that hasn't laid on its side so it will stay that way | ||

Here is my CR from the other day, I was about 90 miles from home. Rode it, got to a gas station 40 miles from home, saw the cords on the tire, then rode the rest of the way home as if I was riding on ice (well I pretty much was on ice). She is retired now for the winter, or till I get new rubber on it, whichever comes first  | ||

Yea, but its getting hard to find new Buell's at this point... Oh, there is a nice 99X1 in Tennessee for sale cheap, I might end up with that instead. Then again that might not be a good idea, the insurance is a bitch, I am currently at about $3500 a year | ||
