I'm looking at buying a new watch. I want something tough and durable. Currently I'm looking at the G-Shock GW-2500B-1A. Anybody have any experience with these watches, or has any other options for me.

Here's the watch: http://www.gshock.com/products/index.php?product=8FBA43ED-55D2-4A43-8139-61624CB4B933

Only thing that ever wore out on the old G-Shock I had was the band.

By far, the best, toughest watch I've ever owned. Mine was actually run over by a 30,000 pound Hyster forklift, and lived! Of course, you couldn't get the backing off to change the battery after that, but it survived. Best for the money, for sure.

I have destroyed most of the Durable watches out there, 2 Luminox watches, G shock and so on. Currently have a Chase Durer Black Hawk that has survived some serious stuff. Little bit of money but well worth it.

G-Shock's have a great rep and a cult following.

You can search or ask questions here:

This is the one I have been using for a while... wore one out and just got another because they are cheap (under $100) and at most Wal Mart's.

http://www.shoppingdad.com/casio-mens-ana-digi-ala rm-chronograph-dive-watch.html

(Don't know anything about that seller, thats just a link Google turned up for the right watch)...

Basic and mechanical... It doesn't even know the year so you occasionally have to fix the day of the week / month. But like an air cooled Buell motor, that's part of the charm for me. Very durable.

The pic at the top you posted looks like a really cool one as well though...

Ferris, if I had the cash I'd go with one of those! Those are some kick ass watches, a mans watch for sure!

I found the G-Shock that I'm looking at (above) on ebay for $156, with free shipping. He has a buy now or best offer, I offered him $125. I'll see if he takes it. The retail is $250.

It's also not a big and bulky as many of the G-Shocks, which I like.

I've had a Nixon for 10 years, since it's stainless I always used to shine the shit out of it with our rubber shining wheels we use for cast crowns. Right now it's glass-blasted so it's not shiny but not dull. Cost me a whole 60 bucks when I got it, went through a few batteries and a few watch straps but it's still ticking.

Wish I could wear digital watches.

I've never had a digital watch last longer than a few months.

EVERY one has stopped working or had the display completely black out.

I only wear mechanical watches.

The current Seiko Automatics are superb.

I get a cheap water resistant (50 meters)Timex. Lasts about 2 or 3 years then needs a battery. I often then just toss it, and get another. I do not want to spend more than $15-$20 for a watch.

I've had a Timex Ironman Triathalon for over 15 years. Been through too many bands to count. Still going strong.

Now if that watch had a phone in it...

I don't know. I've owned close to 20 digital watches if different brands, models, and price.

NONE have lasted longer than 6 months.

I went through THREE iron man watches in a year. I bought all of them from Wal-Mart. I returned all of them.

"The current Seiko Automatics are superb."

I own two Seiko kinetics. One is five years old and the other is three. They both look and perform like new after a ton of HARD use. Best watches I have ever owned and I have owned Many auto's. Totally worth the few hundred dollars I spent. Go on line and get one. There are lots of deals around now...

I'm not as big a fan of the Kinetics. I've owned two and have similar problems with quartz watches that I do with digital watches.

I've owned two, one Seiko and one Bulova. Both were kinetic powered quartz watches.

I prefer the current batch of fully automatic watches:

Although I love to collect the vintage 1969-1979 models:

My FAVORITE is the 1968-1977 6105-8110 Asymmetrical case diver's watch.

Pure sex!

+1 on the Seiko Auto's
The awesome thing is, you can pick one up for under $200 now after Christmas (I'm sure the two pictured are more but...). Think about it, if your going to pay $60 or so for junk at Wally World, it's way worth it to buy one of these. Plus, if they were swiss made, they would be ten times the price and IMHO not as sturdy or reliable.

Zactly. Actually, the vintage watch can be had for under $200, and the current one can be had for under $300.

Now the Seiko Samurai can run as high as $899 MSRP.

If you go for the Stainless Steel version you get the 7S35A Movement with two extra jewels (compared to the 7S25A contained in the titanium version):

Finally broke the bank on a MTB Special Ops Black Hawk. I went with the rubber band. I wanted to so bad, I paid the $50 to have it shipped overnight. I'm pretty excited to get it tomorrow.
