It's a fine sight any day for me. I absolutely love it.
I wouldn't mind a 'replica' about 10 feet tall. Gormley actually made six himself - given as gifts to whoever. I believe one came up at auction some years ago - and sold for a million. Of course, it was a Gormley hands on creation.
I keep meaning to venture around and see Gormley's other land sculptures. Well worth a Google.....

Get the welder out & build your own Sean.
Use a couple of dead Saab's for the bits & sell it to the Tate for squillions. |

Looking at the Angel up close it's built just like a ship, except inside out so the frames are on the outside of the hull.
My mate owns a shipyard and he could build any Angel to scale or full size. Here's one he built last year. Not an Angel but a Crabber, and a work of art worthy of inclusion here me thinks!

Love the crab boat. Kort nozzle, bulbous bow and a single screw, sexy like Buell bodywork (if you know what you're looking at). I want an old one when I retire. Think of the interior volume on one of those, a truly 'seaworthy' house boat. All it needs is a couple of thrusters. |

Here's what the local shellfish boys use;
Boats with wheels; when they hit the sand hydraulic drive is diverted from the screws to the wheel mounted hydraulic motors they're also on telescopic legs.

I've not noticed that one at Cancale, but what a stunning part of the world Cancale is - and the oysters there are great too!
