I know some of you Buellers are a bit down because of the foal weather. I hope this painting brightens up your day. Spring is right around the corner...

Do you like it? It's quite an expression in contrasts. Black/White Male/Female Hat/No Hat... |

Notice how the boy is looking at the girl but she isn't looking back... a touching portrait of unrequited first love (Message edited by not_purple_s2 on December 23, 2009) |

J That is more like it. I am wildly excited bc I actually just spotted a salt truck... I think the city is trying to make up for the recent cluster**** they created on the roads during the last storm. Whee!

Charlotte, I'm glad you liked it. It's one of my favs. too.. I'm happy to say I saw a salt truck also, but I'm not keen on washing the crap off of my little car. It's hell on the paint job (Message edited by jasonnennig on December 23, 2009) |

During the '70s a Chicago mayor failed to get salt on the streets, which ended his political career. Since then, there has been so much salt spread in Chicago that you can actually slide on the salt. And I do enjoy the art criticism. |

Hmmm.... if he is looking away... he's looking down which still fits the scenario. |

Dave, NICE...I have done my share of graphic design work too, it pays the bills, LOL. I'm trying to focus more on fine art though. I miss the whole creative scene I experienced while in art school, with the spirited give and take... |

Monet... naah. Too "nice" for me. But then again, I don't live in an area that ever sees a salt truck. Jim Dine. Yes!

Above: "Der Schrei Der Nature" ("The Scream of Nature") Edward Munch, 1893 National Gallery, Oslo Norway "I was walking along a path with two friends — the sun was setting — suddenly the sky turned blood red — I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence — there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city — my friends walked on, and I stood there trembling with anxiety — and I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature." |

So you went to the Munch museum. Cool! Edward Munch supposedly was, what we would label as manic depressive in today's day and age. His work reflects it. By the way, that painting (Skriket) was stolen from the museum last year. It is yet to be recovered. The pier in the picture is still in existence. Then there's Georgia O'Keefe. The commonality I see with Munch is that they both were brilliant using colors

Is that the second time that painting was stolen, Wikipee said it was returned... Munch has walked in my world... |

They got the painting back! Awesome. I had not followed it. So I assumed it was still gone. Last I read, about 6 months after the heist, it was still missing. Thanks for the update. As for walking in worlds. It is a powerful thing to realize that there have been people before us that endured their path just fine. Art and artisans are a wonderful thing. I know, I married one! (artist, that is) |

Bi-Polar Disorder (Manic Depressive Illness), is very common in the art world unfortunately. I'm sorry to say that it seems to be the mark of inspiration and greatness for many. In my own personal experience the disorder can really make life interesting if left untreated for any stretch of time. I have spoken with MANY artists and creative people who are stricken with Bi-polar. I have found not one, who would exchange being in touch with reality, for creative inspiration though. Thank God for modern meds., but I will say they do take the creative edge off a bit. |

Whatever, I understand there are 4 versions of "Scream". I've only seen pics of the one you included. The Georgia O'Keefe Museum in Santa Fe is an amazing place if you like O'Keefe. You're so close to the paintings that if you look carefully, you can see the paintings she painted over. |

The self portrait of Munch is mesmerizing: Nice use of colors to portray "the state of the person" |

Ya'll keep this up...I don't get much culture these days...and yes BPD can cause some "interesting" things. And yes, a staggering number of famous artists and musicians are or were Bi-Polar. I get a lot done when I'm Manic . |

Ferris Von Bueller: "There is no place for your hatred here...you all need to move to some rock where you all can fight back and forth all day with each other. Living in a sewer is all you know and is what you love. Fear, War, Hate and Death is your reality in this, what you call a life, and you want to spread it far and wide. Why not crap on a work of Art, created with love to uplift humanity? You don't care, because in your nightmare there is no creation just the filth of distruction. The satisfaction of killing what others have built. So Ra Ra Ra, sing your songs of evil. I pity you..." Keep it up Farris. The more you act out like the little child the more people will just laugh and see you for what you are. A mindless Idiot... |
