Two strokes don't need much oil.Buddy's snowmobile seized up after two seasons of running one oil injector line(twin cylinder) completely pinched off under the carb boot clamp.It was also folded over the inflow nipple so tightly that even if the pinch from the clamp passed even a little oil,it would not get to the cylinder. He didn't run it hard all that much...but when his kid tried to keep up with some faster sleds....it took 3 miles of WFO to seize up that cylinder.This was an engine I personally built to perfection with a new crank and pistons three years ago. 'Twas to run forever.Problem was that the owner had taken the carbs off a couple seasons ago and put it back together and unknowingly clamped the line. Simply amazing that it ran that long. | ||

Many years ago at an outboard engine class...the instructor (30 year master tech at Evenrude) said that at idle speeds, the gasoline alone was enough lubrication to keep the motor from seizing....and he ran an old 6 horse in the test tank for 1/2 hour at a dead idle to prove his point... | ||

I've heard that about two stokes........ could idle all day without oil. When I built that motor,we fuelled it with an oil mix to top off the tank....just to give it a little extra oil for break in. Was probably never ran empty,so it had 'some' oil in it.........but probably diluted with a few fills to something in the realm of 500:1.....but still! |
