He. He is a very interesting man. The radiated skin sloughed off in his later years. He was a pro athlete in his youth and a history professor in a western university later. I learned a lot from him. |

If You: Ferris Von Bueller, consider the blast of a nuclear device, extremely beautiful and an artistic statement....Something is seriously wrong up-stairs with you man. Please, Please don't start a thread of your favorite things. I don't have a big enough bottle of Peptol Bismol... |

Jason, I thought you were going to take back all the bad things you said about me after I schooled you on Jackson Pollock. |

Btw, no humans or animals were harmed during the above testing of the nuclear device. However, I can't make that claim for anything below the water. |

Jason: down, boy. Just because you know some art, doesn't mean you know all art. I am surrounded by pro artists at home and "thick-neck welders" (joke) at work. Beauty and skill is beauty and skill. Taxonomy is something else. I remember having a fascinating discussion with my son about colour. People tend to think I have a blue/green blindness. He pointed out that I don't. He recognized that my reds are based on a metal heat scale and don't follow the traditional patterns. He also noted that I can see all sorts of greens but they're not as important because, in my trade, any green is poison: I'm not going to hang around to define which green it is. Also, he noted that my blue is very precise, depending on what I want that flame to do. I have a friend that saw every fine art piece in the British museum in an afternoon. He can check off all the paintings on his list. What did he really see? I gave a co-worker,from another culture, a card with a painting on it. He seemed to be really moved by the picture. Now, all the other worker from his culture nod at me, greet me. What did they see? |

No one likes us-I don't know why We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try But all around, even our old friends put us down Let's drop the big one and see what happens We give them money-but are they grateful? No, they're spiteful and they're hateful They don't respect us-so let's surprise them We'll drop the big one and pulverize them Asia's crowded and Europe's too old Africa is far too hot And Canada's too cold And South America stole our name Let's drop the big one There'll be no one left to blame us We'll save Australia Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo We'll build an All American amusement park there They got surfin', too Boom goes London and boom Paris More room for you and more room for me And every city the whole world round Will just be another American town Oh, how peaceful it will be We'll set everybody free You'll wear a Japanese kimono babe And there'll be Italian shoes for me They all hate us anyhow So let's drop the big one now Let's drop the big one now - Political Science by Randy Newman |

Thanks for that description. It brought to mind Francis Bacon's musings about the difficulties of communicating anything between two minds. But -- also that sometimes we can know that a message has been received... without knowing precisely what the content of the message was. (Message edited by marinus on December 27, 2009) |

And Ferris, fish are animals. I never said they weren't. I could have worded it differently. I see your point. Lost in translation..... note: see above (Message edited by Ferris_von_bueller on December 27, 2009) |

Hey, Ferris are you one of those guys who just has to have the last word? Ha, can you answer that in one word? Just a pattern I'm seeing. |

I thought this was a discussion board I'm not sure what your observations have to do with the subject at hand but I'm sure you can explain it to me, that is, if you're not too busy telling Ccyryder how to park his car. Yea, Blake, I'm done with the selective enforcement of the rules. Carry on.... |

I hate to get involved in this, but just one comment-wouldn't giving A Muslim child A gift be A very Christian thing to do? Didn't Jesus give unto us when he had nothing? Oh never mind, I'm A pegan anyway.. The one thing all of these religions have in common is that no matter how much that preach love and peace they all want to hate and kill. Oh well I'm going to go dance naked around A bon-fire. |

I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ. Mohandas Gandhi For me, dancing naked beats church, temple of mosque any day. And doing a good deed is always good. |

Many Muslims came to America to find the American dream and are not rich. Adopting the American tradition of gift giving at Christmas is a cool tradition to adopt, gift giving is fun and a good thing, and a great social tradition, we would be poorer without it - lol - perhaps they do qualify, so should not have their religion held against them. Though Christmas is also a religious holiday that I hold dear, let us not forget that it is also secular, and a good one reminding Americans to always be good and generous of spirit and things - nothing wrong there, and I don't think anyone, except maybe Oprah, would go overboard. If more toys are needed, perhaps its time the local chapters got together and formed another toy ride. Sounds like a better idea than sitting in second hand judgment about who should get the toys. Sure there will be people out to abuse the system, there always will be, but the Sally folk usually have their act together pretty well and prevent the majority of abusers from doing just that - that has been my personal observation.
