I saw it Saturday on Imax 3-D. Visually awesome. Story somewhat lame and predictable. I still give it 4 out of 4 stars.

Worth going just for the visuals, especially if you catch it in 3D.
The actress playing the native girl was excellent and the main actor was ok.
Most of the other cast were lame stereotype characters; the nerdy guy, the bleeding-heart scientist, the tough chopper pilot, the evil warmongering general, the heartless greedy CEO

I saw it Friday night in 3D. Thought the movie was good and the graphics were awesome. Well worth the money to see in the theater.

Thanks guys! My wife really wants to go see it, and I am not the greatest when it comes to going to the theater. Maybe I will bow down and surprise her haha.

Saw it on IMAX 3D. While not the best movie I've ever seen, it was probably the best movie experience I ever had. The plot was predictable (as mentioned above), but it was good enough to hold my attention. The effects of IMAX 3D were spectacular!

we do for family that which we wouldn't normally do sting. take her out for a nice meal and surprise her with the movie.

at least your wife is interested in seeing it, i went by myself cause my wife probably couldn't care less. when i told her that i went to see it, she had no idea what i was talking about.

Besides the 3D, the sound in the Imax was awesome. The explosions and collisions rattled the rafters! They must have some God-awful subs hidden somewhere.

Honestly, IMHO, it was one of the most unbelievable and amazing movies I have ever seen. I saw it last night in 3D and will definitely be going again!

How much of a headache is the 3D?

I'd heard mixed reviews of the 3D technology as far as eye fatigue and headaches.

I had read the same thing about the 3D effect, but you really don't notice it after about 15 minutes. The 3D is not there to shock you or scare you like most 3D movies have been lately, it just takes you deeper into this fantastic world. Great movie, can't wait to see it again.

+1 I have always disliked 3d movies b/c of the gimick effect of them shoving things in your face. Thankfully that was almost completely absent from Avatar. The 3d ads depth to things but they didn't try to make things leap off the screen. very well done imo. It was one of the best, no the best visual movie I have ever seen. I will be going to see it again in IMAX.
The story, well done but as others have said nothing ground breaking. The "bad guy" constantly reminded me of the bad guy from "Small Soldiers", if anyone remembers that.

3D had no problems with. It was awesome!

I can't wait for the trilogy!

Oh, and if anyone hasn't heard, they wrote screen play for 3 movies and if the first does well, they will be producing the others.

=)

Ten foot tall smurfs with bad attitudes, that hug trees, probably crunch granola, and worship the dirt (kinda). But its still a damn good flick.

I read somewhere that most of it was filmed in the same hanger that Howard Hughes made the Spruce Goose in.

We're going to see it but do it in 2D. Sunny has to wear eyeglasses (an old injury prevents using contacts) - so the 3D glasses worn over eye glasses is a non-starter.

STILL looking forward to the show (today or tomorrow)

Saw it in IMAX 3D last night. If you see it, you MUST see it at LEAST in 3D, but if you can catch it in IMAX 3D so much the better. The shortest 2.5+ hour movie I've ever seen. AMAZING. One of the few movies out there that actually lived up to the hype preceding it.

By the way, I've worn the 3D glasses over regular glasses and it isn't an issue. At least, it wasn't for me.

I definitely want to go see it in 3d but the problem for me will be finding a theater that shows it in English.
Wifey wont come if it's in English & I won't go to see it dubbed.
C'est la vie.

Btw, I've been wearing windows for over 40 years & seen other IMAX 3d stuff with the goggles over my normal glasses & it's not a problem.

We really enjoyed the movie. No problem wearing the 3D glasses over my prescriptions but I can't see the 3Dness as the vision in my left eye sucks.

I bet Neytiri tang would be awesome.

Amazing- there's already a wiki for Avatar:

http://james-camerons-avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Avatar _Wiki

I was just curious if there was any explanation for "unobtainium", googled it, and found the wiki. It turns out unobtainium is a room temperature superconductor that's a vital component in all their starship drives.

Slaughter, I wear glasses as well (they're big and square-like to better fit my overall geekness) and the 3D glasses they have now fit over my big ol ones very comfortably. After a few minutes I forgot I was wearing them. My girlfriend didn't have any troubles either I don't think. Seriously, go to it in 3D, you'll want to go again (like me!) LoL

...likewise in general engineering work for that matter. But in the case of this story, they actually designated the stuff mined on Pandorum as "unobtainium".

I thought it was good. You were right about the 3 D effect. More dimensional than in your face. I thought the sparks from the fire was cool in 3 D effect. I will have to see it again, to soak it all in. REX
