Well I turned fifty eight a fiew weeks ago, and time is catching up with me.... well sort of. I'v cleaned and polished everything on the bike, I even cleaned the leather jacket and riding boots.... I keep thinking mabe I need a new helmet and some more new gauntlet gloves, mabe a fleece lined vest or something to wear under it all. The shopping should keep me un-board/antsy for a couple days. I hear theres a good place to look down in Columbia SC. might go down for a day in the 'cage'. but then theres talk of a good place up in Charolette. Yea, I need a helmet for sure.......... Well that will blow off a couple days of this frigin cold weather, I mean WTF, its too cold to ride. Yea as I'm driving around, with no particular place to go......... and I catch myself opening the wind wing every so often and holding my hand in the outside wind as I'm driving, guaging how cold it is by the windchill.....aaaaag, can only do that about a minuate and a half, naaa can't ride in this today... Well at around 3:00 I take a quick spin down to the corner store, never even in the slightest way got any heat to the tires, they feel like solid rubber. Well anyway I can puff and surf the net now, got some smokes. Coffee would go good right now, and a couple more logs on the fire. The Bikes on the other side of the room on pourpose, so I don't have to see it while I'm surfing. My back's to it. Keeps my mind off of it a bit, heak mabe three logs, brrrrrr. What's going to be my plan of attack in the spring??? Well I'v gone over it in my mind hundereds of times, mabe a ride over to the 'Tail of the Dragon'. Speaking of Dragons, mabe I need some Pirrelli Dragon Corsa Pro's ? Yea, thats it, I can go up to Raligh, I hear theres a shop or two there... Damn I'm board. I wonder what polished fins would look like? Mabe wrap the exhaust? The next door neighbor kid called me, he's got a CBR 600, nice enough bike, dinking with a fender eliminator thingie, "wan'a come over and hang?" "Yea I'll be right over". So we got a warm garage and tunes.... a shot/swig of Wild Turkey to start. (Him)"hay Rich I got some 'kind' and some oil and some hash, "you wan'a hit or two" (ME) "Yea mabe later, wow were'd you find that? I ain't seen oil forever" So as a curiosity we told stories about 'back when' I didn't puff though, I'm wanting to stay straight, and have for going on three years, and I don't miss the 'bud' a bit. So anyway we pull off the rear liscense plate holder, not much to that, their made to come off quick for track days if you want. Damn its only December 18, two and a half of frikin more cold months to wait out.........damn, damn..... Three years ago I lived in So Cal, down in Riverside county, heak It would probably be OK weather to ride if I was down there, or mabe Arizona, hmmmmm. Too damn far to go.......... I'v read and re-read every motorcycle mag I have here, even looking at a magazine on how to build a gazebo... No gazebo's here. Wow... The other neighbor down the road has a 79 Triumph T 140 stashed in this old vacant house on his property, he called me and wants to look at it and see just what it'll take to get it running, cool that will keep my mind busy for a while, but....got'a have some heat to work on it, but my shops just right, just got'a go get a couple tanks of propane and we'll be set. Hmmmm that kids "kind" sure would be neat right now, naaaa, better not. And so it's going to go for the next about three months....until I can get on the bike and ride, damn I miss those warm August nights here in the south. God, I feel sory for the boys up in NY or the Lakes. |

Nice read. Wow, cold + boredom is a bitch... don't let it push you over the edge, there's too much that's good that you'll miss if you are all spun up, cooked out of your mind, or in jail. ...you prolly know that though. |

I'm kind of going thru the same winter blues. Weather man this morning said we're going to get hammered with snow this whole weekend in the Baltimore area. I covered up my X1 for the year and the Uly is sitting there ready to ride. Waiting for me to hop on. Did all of my Christmas shopping on-line and I'm looking at weird sites or You Tube stuff like Hostile movie clips to Simon the cat cartoons I want the warm summer nights back TOO! K |

Gohot reminds me of why I am not ready, may never be ready to move south. It is too hot in the summer and winter is cold enough to keep you inside, but not cold enough for winter sports. It was single digits here in NH this morning, but I will be starting our ski season in the next few weeks with the kids and I bought a '92 Arctic Cat for $500 for when I am not skiing. I have put new skis on it, adjusted the carbs, replace the fuel line (after it flooded the garage with gas!), recovered the seat - now all we need is snow! Winter boredom? Not me... Spring? It will get here soon enough - I am ready for and love winter - think snow!

I release a heavy sigh every morning as I enter the garage and see the Buell's sitting in their winter resting place. Last day I rode was Tuesday Dec 2nd, it snowed on the 3rd. I was the "last man standing" at work, most parked their bikes before November, a couple hung in there until Thanksgiving. I was the lone bike on the 1st and 2nd.. Cold weather riding is interesting. You have to have a different mind set. Tires never fully warm up, the pavment is cold, traction is always limited compared to warmer weather. With the way these old air cooled lumps love the cold dense air, the added low end grunt and the lessened traction can make thing interesting.... The bike is stiffer, isolators don't isolate as well. More vibration, more engine noise transmitted throughout the bike. Exhaust noise/vibration too. It has a way of resonating through the bike, through the seat, up your spine and into your inner ear. Kind of odd. Earplugs that work fine in warmer weather now make everything sound different, sometimes annoying. Switching to softer "winter" plugs returns things to somewhat normal. Heated grips are a Godsend one of the best additions I have ever done to a bike. Firstgear apparel rocks. With my HT-2 Overpants, my Kilimanjaro jacket and a thin Aerostich Kantsue vest and I'm good down to 15 degrees for at least an hour. After that one starts looking for a landing spot. The toes start freezing up a bit. Sadly, when the white stuff hits it's season over. Bridgestone BT-021's suck in the snow. Don't ask how I know. I think the cigar and scotch in the garage this evening sounds like a very good idea. Brad |

Been riding to work all week here in Connecticut. Monday was pretty fun with all the roads being completely covered in black ice. Yesterday and today was about 15 degrees in the mornings. I hope those parts for the truck come in soon, I'm freezing. |

Temp averaging negative numbers without windchill, lower than -25* with. Last day I rode was December 10th, there was a bunch of snow all around and the roads were just clear enough to get some traction. I have to say a +100 to everything about what Brad said, cold weather riding is a whole nutha ball game. Speaking of which, Brad, you and Andy are both down in the cities, we need to organize a ride next summer!! You get alot of stares when you're doing a wheelie in -8* weather a month and a half after most bikes are in storage |

Well old timer, don't feel bad for the folks up North or near the Great Lakes. Perhaps we should feel sorry for you poor folk down South. Just like Scott it is time to fire up the sleds (i.e. snowmobiles for you Southerners). We are off to Cadillac right after Christmas!!! Think of it as motorcycling on the snow! |

The weather outside is cold, I have found the love of my life, she bought me a Buell Ulysses, we have painted a bedroom in the basement and put down laminate floors, I have wired and insulated and put up Oriented Strand Board(go ahead try typing O-S-B) in the garage and am waiting for a small heater to be able to spend time in there this winter. I sit on the couch reading Badweb while sitting next to miss sexy and I am absolutly silly crazy happy. It's winter, I am probably not going to do any riding other than novelty riding for another 89 days, but I am finally happy. |

I fouled my Iridium plugs yesterday. Pulled them, cleaned them, front cyl. fired up, rear fouled again. Pulled it out and cleaned it again. Turned salamander on for a half hour. Pointed it at Blue and all was well with the world. I went for a ride to the dealer for belt warranty work. It was a pleasant 33 degrees out. That Drystar jacket is perfect at anything over 32. At 20 or lower I start thinking I should have put a sweater under it. I still need to put the winter oil in it. The problem was that I had been riding the TW200 for the last couple of weeks in the snow and ice, so, the Uly had sat in the cold garage (read 0 degrees) with out a startup or even an electric heater. I normally preheat it in the winter. Not sure what plugs I'm going to get now. |
