it dropped below freezing here in OK, and has been drizzle and/or fog for the past few days so I started leaving the Uly at home and driving the 98 Mustang to work.

Anyways.. the theft light has been flashing rapidly every time I start the car. The rate at which it's flashing slows down after maybe 30 seconds, and then it goes out completely after about 5 minutes.

I did a quick google search of the problem but it seems that everyone else with the flashing theft light is unable to start their car. Mine still starts luckily, but I'd like to avoid future problems by figuring out what's going on.

Any ideas?

btw, the anti-theft only arms when I lock the car using the remote, not when I manually lock the door using my key. I ALWAYS lock and unlock using the remote, so I see no reason for the anti-theft to not un-arm itself as soon as I unlock the car. The alarm does still sound if I lock the door with the remote, and then unlock it with the key - DAMHIK : )

Factory alarm system or aftermarket? I had a Lincoln Mark VII that would do that if I opened the door from the inside if it had been locked via remote or with the touch pad on the door, it would also disable the ignition.

The light and ignition would work again once the car was properly unlocked/reset via the doors key pad.

Does your alarm still sound under the right conditions? Sounds like it's either been disabled or it's an electrical problem, maybe a bad control module.

Might want to check the battery terminals for clean and tightness. The fob has a battery too. Cold weather brings out the weak points in batteries and tires!

it's a factory alarm system. I haven't checked it for a while, just a couple accidental alarms after buying the car this summer by locking with the remote then unlocking with the key. I also just checked and the panic button works : )

The battery terminals look good and it starts the car with no problem, in as cold as 14* yesterday morning.

If it comes down to chasing wires I think I'll just deal with the flashing light.

Search the interweb for an install manual - I'm sure the system was available over the counter as a dealer accessory. Should be able to "un-install" it if you can't troubleshoot it...

Wilson, last time I went home on leave I colored too. Like in a coloring book. Twenty two years old and I color, and watch iCarly on occasion.

tccoa dot com

That's the Thunderbird Cougar Club of America, they have some pretty good data in there. Maybe something on the Ford factory alarm systems that could help.

I'll surf their site a bit later tonight once I get my online training complete and see if I can find anything for you.

I color sometimes to, usually with my daughter. It can still be relaxing =]

You did mean a factory keyless remote correct??
Sounds like you have a bad micro switch in your d/s door latch.

I take no responsibility for any action taken subsequent to reading this.

When we have a bug with our Volvos (over 1200 of them) we disconnect the batteries for a few minutes & then the system reboots when reconnected, this generally (9 out of 10 times) does the job.

Just sayin'. I don't know what would happen to your Muz, but best try it at home rather than stranding yourself somewhere.

I have used this solution many times on a number of different vehicles & saved myself & others lots of time & money.
