i was thinking about using some money i get from christmas to invest in either a GPS for the bike, or a radar detector for the bike, im kind of leaning mroe towards a radar detector, so my questions were
1. is there an easy way to mount either of these devices to my 03 firebolt?
2. does anybody use either of these and whats a good brand?

Go GPS!

A Ram Mount is the best way to go to mount it to you bike, whether you go GPS or radar detector.

If you go GPS, go Garmin or Tomtom.
If you go Radar Detector, go Escort or Valentine 1.

GPS gets my vote....

I got more tickets when I had a radar detector....

It will give you a false sense of confidence and the next thing ya know...
you're sitting on the side of the road looking for your insurance card....

When you are riding look at the terrain in front of you and slow down when you see a good hiding spot for catching speeders.... and always keep a rabbit in front of you. Let some other idiot be first. If someone passes you doing 80, keep them in site and watch for their brake lights. They will let you know when and where the cops are.... or if all that doesn't work for your, ride with a off duty cop so they can pull out their badge.. damn near works every time.....

don't ask me how I know.

+1 on the Ram Mount. Very high quality products. That's what we use for our GPS on the bikes.

Another vote here for the RAM mount system. Check Amazon.com for a HUGE listing of bits and pieces and mounting gizmos.

If you don't need Bluetooth, the older Zumo 450 is an excellent buy. There are still some new/old stock with lower prices since Garmin has updated their moto-line.

Cough_gasp_choke. Um, $740 for a GPS unit (Zumo 450 on Amazon)??? Are there no other, more economical options? I had no idea.

I use a Nuvi and a Ram mount.
$125 for the Nuvi and $40 for the Ram mount.
Check the Ram mounts website.
I also use a VistaC and ram mount.

I enjoy getting lost, It happens so often, why would I want an excuse to be on time and actually arrive somewhere when I have having so much damn fun in the middle of nowhere.

I spent the money on an emergency beacon location device... a wiser investment for me all things considered.

Now that RAM mounts makes a waterproof case/holder with a flex lens cover to access touch screen functions, I was thinking that a simple, inexpensive unit like a MIO gps would work, for a lot cheaper than the $700 made-for-motorcycle units.

cheaper is good!, we'll see what i get after xmas...between wanting either a GPS or radar detector, I know i could also use some riding boots as well, then theres the age old upgrades for the bike, so I think its going to boil down to how much extra money i have after this next sunday (my birthday) and xmas....
