I'm planning on heading out to the Black Hills immediately after Homecoming rather than heading straight back home. Anyone who's interested in tagging along is more than welcome, just let me know if you're interested.

If you can't ride your bike for more than 600 miles and 12 hours in a single day, then this trip is not for you.

Day 1 - Sunday of Homecoming, leaving first thing in the morning for Chamberlain, SD. About 630 miles, 12 hours of riding (according to google maps). All straight, all level, all boring. crossing through Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota. This is the 'work' day.

Day 2 - This is the 'payoff' day. We start out with about 130 miles of interstate and then jump off for a good ride through the Badlands for about 40 miles. Good roads, GREAT scenery. Then back on the highway for a little bit until we hit Rapid Springs. Stop for lunch and then we head out for the Black Hills. We take a meandering route through, stop at Mount Rushmore, and eventually end up in Hot Springs, SD for dinner and to stay for the night. This whole day is only 330 miles and less 6 1/2 hours of riding, so we'll have lots of time to stop, enjoy our surroundings and take pictures.

Day 3+ will depend on who's going. If it's just me, I'll begin to make my way home to Albany, NY. If others are coming and live on the way, we can adjust the route to swing through where they live. I may decide we all go our separate ways as I visit some friends I don't see too often. It's really up in the air at this point.

May I suggest another day in the Hills. Try to make it through Cheyenne Crossing over to Newcastle and up to Sundance and Devils Tower then back through Belle Fouche to Spearfish and up Spearfish Canyon. There is so much great riding there it's hard to get it all in in a short time. Sounds like a great trip.

MMMMMMM Sounds fun!!!

I will have to see what the vacation schedule looks like for the coming year but I will keep this in mind.

When are you heading for East Troy? My brother cant make it this year so I am flying solo unless I can find some others heading that way too.

Bj - I'll take a look at the areas you mentioned - I'd love to spend more time there, but I also need to get back home so I'd like to have a full day leeway "just in case".

Rde - I'm not certain of my plans to get to East Troy yet. I have a friend from NJ who is also going and we may ride to his vacation cabin in Ohio the first day, but that makes for two pretty long days. Also not sure if we'll try to get there for Thursday night, or just stop short and get in Friday morning. All depends on the events.
