Blastronometer, I have a few disagreements, mostly picky. Otherwise you are right. Solar is not limitless. Though orbital solar satellites could solve our energy problems in the near term ( a century or 2 ) they are not a option in this political climate. Pity, because with the money spent on the "stimulus" and "bank bailouts" we could be building them and actually solve the problem. But solving the problem is not what any politician seems to want to do. Ground based solar is great, but how much of Texas do you want to cover? How many lead acid batteries do we need to store the power after the sun goes down? What is the environmental impact of the water usage in the desert to wash every week thousands of square miles of solar reflectors/panels? Not to mention the direct environmental impact of that much desert covered in solar plants. At todays prices, home solar electric or wind power runs about $10k per person/household with a 10 year payback vs. fossil fuels. When 50 year warranty solar roof "shingles" get to the same price range as metal roof covers, you got something. Even at todays costs, solar electric IS an attractive supplement to existing power. But just barely. Home solar heating is best done during design & construction. ( I'm putting passive solar in my garge/workshop, if I can afford to build it at all with the proposed tax increases to pay for this religious cult ) Also a nice thing, but you are not getting people to tear down their Victorians to build superinsulated Solar homes. Why not take action? Very simple. In 1970' a cooling trend led to the cooling panic. ( the Sun is variable! )In the 1990's a heating trend led to a heating panic. We've had ten years of cooling. The leaked emails show they even lie about that. Should we panic again? Most important, since the science is not yet settled, we probably have a situation where our actions may be a solution that can only solve one climate issue, if that. The solutions in SCIENCE are mutually exclusive. If we solve for hot, what if it's cold? The political "solutions" are the same, more power & wealth in the hands of a few, and less for us. Period. The same answer in 1977 & 1997? for 2 different problems? That shows that fixing the problem is not desired by those who have the "solution", but they simply want the power & money. Al Gore went from a guy with about $7 million to a guy with about $100 million. He bought a condo on the ocean, after warning of ocean rise. He knows he's lying. We have a car, it hesitates. One guy tells us we need a new fuel system, one tells us a new ignition system. We can only afford one or the other. We'd better do some more research. Here's a few links for you. http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction= Minority.Blogs&ContentRecord_id=fee4a8fd-802a-23ad -4079-be0ac7f8017e http://businessandmedia.org/specialreports/2007/gl obalwarming/ClimateOfBias.asp ( I love this one.... weather stations that once were next to the airport in a field miles from the city, are now in the middle of urban sprawl. Cities are hotter than forest. Sometimes the old thermometer in a field is now in a parking lot next to the air conditioner & barby ) http://www.surfacestations.org/ http://www.climate-skeptic.com/ ( biased of course ) http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/chri stopherbooker/5067351/Rise-of-sea-levels-is-the-gr eatest-lie-ever-told.html I'm all for alternative energy. I'm all against being taxed to give people I have clear proof are lying to me more power over my life. I'll set my own damn thermostat, and it will be frugal, conservationist, cheapskate, and good for the planet. If you would let me have clean safe nuclear, I'd have it. Please. |

He may have a life. Perhaps he feels he has nothing to contribute to a discussion where people use facts. Pity, I was waiting for an informed opinion. On various threads here I am still waiting for an opinion on CFL's Toronto Pizza good suggestions on how to win/honorably withdraw from Afghanistan Iraq Bosnia The Spanish Civil War The War of Northern Aggression. ( I keep asking for these opinions... but they never come. it's always some variation of "Lincoln Lied People Died" it seems ) |

CFL's Someone pointed out they contain a small amount of mercury that ends up in the landfill - real nice. OLEDS are the future good suggestions on how to win/honorably withdraw from .... Nuke em....would end things real quick. Seriously, I don't think we can win. Terrorists are like cockroaches - cut the head off and they still go on living. Look how few it took to launch the attacks on 911. You can't defeat them all. What I worry about is the proliferation of nuclear and biological weapons and the ability of rogue operators to acquire and use them. As Stephen Hawking said: "In the long term, I am more worried about biology. Nuclear weapons need large facilities, but genetic engineering can be done in a small lab. You can’t regulate every lab in the world. The danger is that either by accident or design, we create a virus that destroys us." (Message edited by Ferris_von_bueller on November 29, 2009) |

That depends on your definition of "win". Although the current temporary President dislikes the word "victory" as it reminds him of something nasty, ( he also doesn't like people to tease him about his ears ) what most people in the U.S. really want is to not be murdered or taxed by madmen who insist we worship as they demand. ( this statement goes for radical islam & environmentalists ) Nuking the entire middle east would not solve the problem with that,( there are a lot of madmen in that faith & they live all over ) as well as making oil too expensive, so, that'a not an option. Remember, we all live on a ball in space & your fallout gets in my milk. The only way I see to stop terrorists is the Dean Ing way as proposed in "Soft Targets". Make fun of them in the media. I agree biowarfare is a serious threat. Luckily Saddams' program is now over. As is Khadafi's. I do worry about leftover Soviet crap. http://cns.miis.edu/pubs/opapers/op1/op1.htm |

"To keep this money flowing, climate scientists needed to keep the fear going. Anything that called into question their most dire predictions of climate catastrophe would put all that funding at risk. On the other hand, the bigger the climate calamity, the more willing governments became to fund global-warming research. Keeping the dissenters on the outside was not simply a matter of academic jealousy. It was in many cases a question of professional survival." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100014240527487034 99404574559491076961008.html?mod=googlenews_wsj G |

Another inconvenient storm brewing for the liars and frauds... http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/dec/03/re searcher-says-nasa-hiding-climate-data/ An excerpt:
The fight over global warming science is about to cross the Atlantic with a U.S. researcher poised to sue NASA, demanding release of the same kind of climate data that has landed a leading British center in hot water over charges it skewed its data. Chris Horner, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, said NASA has refused for two years to provide information under the Freedom of Information Act that would show how the agency has shaped its climate data and would explain why the agency has repeatedly had to correct its data going as far back as the 1930s. "I assume that what is there is highly damaging," Mr. Horner said. "These guys are quite clearly bound and determined not to reveal their internal discussions about this." The numbers matter. Under pressure in 2007, NASA recalculated its data and found that 1934, not 1998, was the hottest year in its records for the contiguous 48 states. NASA later changed that data again, and now 1998 and 2006 are tied for first, with 1934 slightly cooler. "Skewed" is a very generous characterization of the fraud that those climate liars have perpetrated. They should be stripped of any/all credentials and sent off to serve hard labor in a Siberian Gulag. |

You are all heretics. Man made global warming is real and is about to destroy us if we don't cede control of our lives and money to the government. What part of "The debate is over" don't you understand? I can't stand you people who dare to question what the rest of us already know to be the Truth. I am going to snag some tasty grant money to study the effect of man made global warming on the pads of polar bear feet. Please stop this thread because there is nothing to debate. Going to be interesting to see Obama zoom off to Copenhagen to aggressively assert what has just been discovered to have been one of the greatest hoaxes (may be a crime since the money was effectively "stolen". . . the more silliness they made up the more money they got . . they got addicted to money) in scientific history. Ben, "Nice idea, but we don't even give that treatment to rapists, murders, theives or Madoff. " Rapists, murderers, and thieves should go as well. We are talking about unprecedented effects of fraud, massive socialization and massive power grab, transfer of wealth, billions and billions stolen from people and taken by the government to redistribute to their buddies. Cap and trade was passed by the idiots in our house of representatives. The UN seeks world governance via a similar scheme. MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, and POWER over ALL. Our government has declared that CO2, the very compound that creates the life that we need to survive and which we exhale in every breath is a pollutant! Are you getting this? It is so @#$^%ing unbelievably preposterous that I still have trouble believing it is actually happening. How can so many people be such $%@#ing IDIOTS! Though their numbers have increased incredibly over the past five decades, our government recently designated polar bears an endangered species. That ploy is being used for one purpose, to kill job creating and energy producing exploration that would help make us less dependent on foreign energy. You want to create a million jobs? Open up our coastline, all of it, to oil exploration and production! The result would be a HUGE number of jobs for Americans, AND a HUGE reduction in our dependence on foreign energy Why not? #$!% if I know! Cause CO2 is killing the planet? LIARS! Most of what the idiots in Washington have done in the past four decades wrt energy policy in this nation has been aimed to destroy the Capacity of America to become energy independent. Can't build nuke plants! France, Japan, and others use nuke power on a massively successful scale. But apparently we're too scared. IDIOTS! For God's sake, the folks in Alaska want to explore for oil in their own state, but are prohibited from doing so because the idiots in Washington care more about the bogus lie that doing so would harm the environment and hurt the caribou, a complete !#$*ing lie! LIARS and fools, among them are those who actually profess that the planet would be better off without humans, that civilization must be curtailed and scaled back. IDIOTS! After al qaeda and friends, the biggest threat to our freedom these days is from the idiots and liars comprising the enviro-nazi movement. Al Gore is their leader. George Soros is in their camp. They probably really should all be shot. I'm not exaggerating. I view them as very dangerous enemies of freedom and prosperity. The pure idiots and fools I can somewhat excuse. The ones exploiting lies and creating fear based on lies to further their socialist political agenda though, yes, they need to be removed from our midst. The sooner the better. Instead they win awards for their lies. Their falsehoods and propaganda are called "documentaries" and they are heralded by the idiots and fools and mostly by their like minded socialist cohorts. Barbara Boxer, the rabidly liberal socialist Senator from CA is calling for an investigation into the hackers who revealed the outrageous fraud being perpetrated by the climate liars. Did you get that? The arrogant shat for brains bitch who publicly castigates our military to address her as "Senator" in lieu of "ma'am" is most interested in attacking the men who uncovered the fraud, not the liars.
Leaked e-mails allegedly undermining climate change science should be treated as a criminal matter, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said Wednesday afternoon. Boxer, the top Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, said that the recently released e-mails, showing scientists allegedly overstating the case for climate change, should be treated as a crime. "You call it 'Climategate'; I call it 'E-mail-theft-gate,'" she said during a committee meeting. Shooting may be extreme. Siberia labor camp sounds just right to me. Blake, that came off as a bit of a rant but it is very much on target. This is the biggest potential money and power grab the world has ever seen. It's being done without guns and "for the good of the children" so people are just too ignorant to see what is being done to them. If the science was sound there would be no need to be fudging the data. The fact is that the data is being fudged everywhere. Glowbull warming is man made and it is being made by the likes of Phil Jones, Michael Mann, James Hansen, Al Gore, etc. None of this is really news to those who have been watching the science. The only part that is news is that there is now hard evidence of the fraud. The fact that Pelosi wants to go after the one(s) that blew the whistle on this scam is a shame. We should all be grateful to the whistle blower for exposing this to everyone. I just find it scary that even with the warming not happening, emails admitting that they can't account for the lack of warming, computer code proving the manipulation of data that some people still believe that CO2 is causing glowbull warming. What's it going to take to make these people see reality? The good news is that since I've gotten back from our Thanksgiving travels news on this front has been to rapid and voluminous to even try to sum up here. I can only hope that this will draw the attention needed to get NASA/GISS to finally let us look at their "science". The people are paying for it after all, why can't we see it? |

Surprisingly enough, even the notoriously left-wing CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) aired a pretty hard hitting report yesterday, slamming the information fudgers in question. Over forty percent of Canadians see the whole "Global Warming" thing as bull, and the costs to implement the nefarious conditions of the Kyoto Accord in a country where the burning of fossil fuels is a matter of freezing to death, or not, are astronomical. |

Stripped of their unearned wealth & put to work on the generator Bikes! I think that's brilliant. Not, of course for common criminals...they have rights. Blake & I differ only in emphasis. ( I try not to call for someones execution on the internet. I shudder to think how often I've broken that self imposed rule ) To quote Al Gore. "He played on our fears!" ( roared, not said. quite good rhetoric too! ) Don't believe religions that say it's good to lie to win. In the best possible world we use the environuts to do the things they want to do that are good ideas. Just keep them from ruling the world, please. Like: Tax incentives for solar/alternative energy production. Education on energy conservation practices. dedication to freedom from fossil fuels. Better batteries for electric cars. World wide effort to clean up pollution in the third world, ( throw in China, and other present & former Communist hellholes. ) Then, to make that happen, we push safe clean nuclear. Invest more in Fusion and the burning of radioactive waste for power. Complete & secure the nuclear materials recycling system. Push for it world wide. Build enough power generation now to provide for a growing future, not a dismal one. etc. etc. Bet that would even stop the mythical AGW. We'd certainly be a richer planet.
