Bad - I agree completely. I just bought a 2010 Mazdaspeed3 - the thing is a total monster. The Subies seem to take to mods better than the Mazda, though - our big torque is a result of an undersquare motor, and when you start modding, things go boom. I'm going to do an intake and turbo inlet on mine as it makes real big gains, especially in the middle, but other than that I'm going to leave it alone. I just want to hear that turbo and BPV so bad! Intake alone, based on before/after dynos and my math makes 300hp/300tq at the crank on the MS3. From a 2.3 4-banger. At the wheels, it just barely edges out the factory crank ratings. Times have changed...

300hp should be cake on your car.

And yes, I saw that the STi isn't much faster than the regular WRX - a little faster to 100, same 0-60 time. It's an impressive car, but comparing one to a Camaro just doesn't seem to fit - two totally different schools of thought.

My buddy just got a new Impreza outback - I know the performance will be lacking as it's no turbo, but I'm curious how it compares otherwise to my car - the overall styling on the Mazda is why I chose it over the AWD in the Subaru.

They are way different but they do compare in performance. Speaking of your car?? I met a guy at a dealer tuner show in milwaukee that has one that has had a quite few... just bolts ons and its fast. I mean frigg'n fast.

Yeah, it moves like hell. Not many guys going beyond bolt-ons and mild tunes for reliability reasons, but they can make some power. Intake, turbo inlet and downpipe have the most gains.

The neat thing is our turbos are so small and motors so torquey, that it's slower to shift at redline - take it past 5,500 rpm and the power really starts to fall. Fun car to drive.

I saw an episode of Motorweek TV last Friday previewing the new Camaro 2010 SLP ZL575. I haven't been too interested in Camaros since my 1993 Z28 but this one really caught my attention.

Review had it cornering like a Vette and accelerating to 60 in three point some seconds. Reported to have a pushrod 6.2 liter "roots" type supercharged engine ala Mustangs Roush version except its pushrod heads. Mileage from 16 to 24 if I recall.

And all for a little over $57,000.00 dollars. Too bad I'd have to mortgage my home to have one. Maybe in my next life. HA! Although it would seem to be one of the best muscle cars yet to date.

Here is a link I found on it: "www.slpcamaro.com"

>>>+1 Court. Ford is still standing tall on its own.

Good . . I am the proud new owner of a 2010.

Went to the Mercedes-Benz dealer about replacing the SCU-mobile.

Nice sales person started in with a line of crap . . . told her I wanted to think about it and was going to go for a walk while wife looked around.

Walked across the street. Offered 24% off something called a FOCUS SEL that gets 35mpg. Wrote check. Save $65,000. Got in, drove across street. Picked up wife.

Take no shit.

BUY AMERICAN . . . not American Government.

I'm getting cranky with age.

I really like the looks of the new Camaro, but I'll not be donating any money to GM (I did get a Denali right before the gubmint took over).

My Sub was putting down 350 at the wheels. Full exhaust and Cobb tune. It's almost as much fun in the twisties as a Buell and to keep your mind on things they eat tires at nearly the same clip too.

Not a one will do it without mods. Most tested in the 5 second flat to the best magazine test I seen is 4.6 seconds. Anything in the 3 second range and your hitting Z06 and other Super cars specs.

Cool big daddy. I find myself looking for the twisties just as much as my bike if not more. The damn thing is amazing. Funny though I get every little lowered Honda with a 20 year old kid that thinks a cold air intake and lowering springs is fast. Thats every day. If not its guys with Mustangs GT's. Those I stomp.

"BUY AMERICAN . . . not American Government."

Gotta agree with you there Court but the current administration, I believe, with their current politics, will not last long and when their gone and GM is once again solvent there will be many good things available to do just that....and without government control.

Why I'm on my second Buell and live by your philosophy but we have both bought foreign before because it was the "best buy" for our needs or wants. Also when you DO buy foreign you are buying into many of their government subsidized companies, I do believe.

One thing that never changes is "things always change". Lets wait and see. Respectfully, Bob

Bad - I used to get the same when I had my Cobalt SS. When I got that car it was stupid fast and surprised a lot of people. Nobody has eyed me up yet with the Mazda, to my surprise.

My Mazda, while no longer tied to Ford, rides on a chassis co-developed with Ford and shared with the European Ford Focus RS - a beat of a sport compact WE CAN'T GET HERE.

I'm always pro-American when it comes to my vehicles, but the bottom line is I'm a point in my life where they aren't making what I want.

I take that back - there are a lot of American cars I want - they just don't have anything I want in my price range anymore. Hot hatches - why the hell don't we have them?

If Saturn brought over the turbo-charged Astra they have in Europe, I'd have bought that. If Ford brought the Focus RS, I'd have bought that.

The Dodge Caliber SRT-4 is in the same class, but it's a top-heavy, poor handling peice of garbage.

quote:

The chairman of General Motors, Edward E. Whitacre Jr., said Tuesday that the automaker would be able to repay all of its government loans and would begin doing so soon.

A government report released last week concluded that taxpayers are unlikely to receive full repayment of the more than $81 billion lent to rescue G.M. and Chrysler. But Mr. Whitacre, speaking at a small college near his home in Texas, insisted that G.M. intended to repay its full debt to the Treasury Department, excluding the nearly $1 billion lent to the old part of G.M. that remains in bankruptcy.

GM lost over a billion last quarter and is intending to pay the feds back $1B with proceeds from another fed loan . . . robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Ford did not seek, nor would they accept $0.01 of federal money and made >$1B of profit last quarter.

Check out the new Motor Trend issue for some American muscle. The Hennesseey 650 hp Camaro goes up against the Shelby Super Snake and a Challenger.

The Shelby kept roasting it's tires and the Camaro won the shootout.

They dynoed each car for verification.

The Shelby made 635 RWHP and 581 RWTQ.
The Camaro made 612 hp and 593 tq.
The Challenger had technical problems and ended up with 454 hp and 429 tq.

I'm sure I could live with any of the three.

Damnit Froggy, thats mighty tempting, seeing as how the Barracuda and Road Runner Redeuxs are dead in the water.

I got to ride in an original, flat azz acceleration sidesteppin monster (we all thought muscle cars were dead after 71!)

Bads, dropping of valves aren't uncommon on the 5.7/6.1 Hemi motors. They're breaking valve springs.

Being said, I have a buddy with a 2007(?) Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. Stock, it made 425ish ponies. Right now, it's demolishing Vipers at the drag strip and that's before the supercharger/cam that's being installed in he near future

Court, aren't the US sold Foci made in Mexico? I've got an SVT peeing in my driveway that I'm pretty sure smells like Chimichangas.

The window sticker list Final Assembly Point as "WAYNE".

I had to do some searching and found THIS

quote:

Focus production in North America had been shared between Wayne Stamping & Assembly in Wayne, Michigan (sedans and wagons) and Hermosillo Stamping & Assembly in Hermosillo, Mexico (hatchback models) before consolidation of all production at Wayne Assembly in 2006.

I guess my saving grace is it'll be sharing the drive with an F-150 which is #1 on the list of American content. (Note: I **think** that is old info. If I recall the F-150 is now #2)

Anyway . . . my marching orders were to find a "cheap" car and this baby can be bought for about what a years worth of lease payments are on the other one. Call me a cheap bastard but with the economy like it is seemed prudent.

My sneaking suspicion is that it will have a German stablemate fairly soon . . . another "small economy" car . . shhhhhhh.....she's buying that line. : )

I really dig looking at all these Camaros. I'm also enjoying the performance series vehicles Ford is making. Be mindful that THIS is a "stock" (as in from the factory) car.
