Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but from what I've been reading here, it seems as though the assets tied to the 1125 bikes could be purchased by an interested party more easily than the assets tied to the XB bikes. And so 1125 owners may actually have some hope of seeing a resurrection of Buell.

The fact that the Buell I bought is an XB and has lost value doesn't really bother me. I bought it for the long term. So far it's as good as, or better than any bike I've owned. Why would I want to sell or trade it?

I own an XB. My question is, what's the possibility of a future Buell company without the XB going to mean to me?

Boycott HD, wear upside down logo's? I don't think so. HD seems to be my only hope.

Don't sweat it, parts will be out there either new or used, OEM or aftermarket.
I too own an XB, but I bought it because it was a Buell, not a HD. There isn't much that's common between the sporty from what I've been able to see, and I prefer it that way.

In the long term it will appreciate due to the limited production numbers.

I'm waiting for my first "what's that" since the demise of the company so I can reply with a smug grin.

Us tubers have had our bikes obsoleted long ago. The good thing is that most small chassis hardware parts can be had from hardware stores and some electrical stuff (fuses, relays, bulbs, etc.) can be found at auto parts stores. Most of the engine stuff is XL stuff so the eeevil dealers still get some business...and we are guaranteed our engine/primary/transmission parts and gaskets for some time to come.

Exactly why I didn't think twice about buying a discontinued 1125R... it was like that with my S3 shortly after I bought it! I've never expected much from an HD dealer when it comes to my Buells.

I think people are misunderstanding Harley's comment regarding how integrated Buell was with them. They're not talking about parts or a shared engine in the XB - they're talking about the functions of the company being integrated - marketing, dealer network, parts, etc.

A "new Buell" will likely not include an XB, though. To be honest, the engine in the XB was just a kind of "hey, it's what we got" sort of deal for Buell - it wasn't his dream engine by a long shot. The liquid-cooled, DOHC v-twin sportbike that the 1125 is is what Buell envisioned many years ago. When Harley squashed that, they took what they could and used an engine they had available.

Not saying XBs aren't great bikes - they are, I've owned one and I hope to do so again - but if Erik has an opportunity to start again fresh without HD, that motor will likely have nothing to do with it.

What would be cool... when he starts his next company....
is if he designed a water cooled motor that would retro fit in the xb frame... unbolt one... bolt in the new.

Return the xb motor to H-D via trebuchet

My question as far as parts would be things like the rear isolators / belts and pullies ( sprockets )

control rings ( switches )

to bad HD obsoleted the @#%$@ traction grips, dummies..

sure HD is going to take care of us - yeah right

I kinda feel sorry for the dealers like our sponsors, that "got it" paid the "premium" to do buell and got dumped on
by the fag-ship

XB owners and all Buell owners will have nothing to worry about as in parts...Do a google search of Buell parts and a ton of companies come up...Now finding someone to work on your Buell in 7 years might be a different story. Unless you have a service manual. If you are not one to work on bikes then buy a manual and start looking for someone to work on it offer them the manual so they can work on your Buell.

I suspect you'll see an increase in tuber owners with EFI switching over to carbs.

My dealer priced a new fuel pump for me a year ago, IIRC it was right around 200 bucks or so. I suspect parts like ECMS and Fuel pumps will make it too expensive to repair.

However, we are a pretty inventive bunch and vendors like American Sport Bike give me faith that there will always be parts or at least some "off the auto store shelf" item that will work (read: Bosch O2 sensor or Ford oil filters).

Go and tell your master that we have been charged by God with a sacred quest. If he will give us food and shelter for the night he can join us in our quest for the Dirty Rooster.

HD Taunter Well, I'll ask him, but I don't think he'll be very keen... Uh, he's already got one, you see?

GALAHAD: He says they've already got one!
ARTHUR: Are you sure he's got one?
HD: Oh, yes, it's very nice-a [To Other Guards] I told him we already got one.
OTHER GUARDS: [Laughing]

HD: Of course not! You are Buell types-a!

HD: I'm a FAG! Why do think I have this outrageous accent, you

GALAHAD: What are you doing in E Troy?
HD: Mind your own business!
ARTHUR: If you will not show us the Rooster, we shall take your factory by force!
GUARD: You don't frighten us, Beull ish crothitty rocketeers Go and boil your

Nobody panic here, none of this is really rocket science, The only thing that will really screw an XB is frame damage.
Sadly this will happen to some but will liberate parts for the rest.

Belts no longer available from HD? Gates probably have something that will do the job, or go chain drive.
Fuel pump is probably similar to a car one that can be adapted.
ECM problem? there's enough electronics specialists out there to build you one should it be necessary.

No, as owner of both Tuber & XB, I'm not too worried.
"Adapt & Adjust" has to be the motto.

I'm with grumpy.
An '04 XB & SV are youngest bikes in my garage. Every other bike there or owned is '84 & earlier. Parts are seldom a problem and resolving those that are is interesting/fun.

Gates doesn't make the belts for the XBs and 1125s. Goodyear does. Gates made the belts for the tubers.

My point is that, even if HD won't continue to sell Buell parts, their suppliers still have the tooling to produce what you need.

You may find that other suppliers for similar parts have something that will do the job as well or better even.

As a f'rinstance I never buy timing belts from a dealer, I just go & get the right belt from a suppliers, could be Gates, Dayco, Continental, or whoever.
All the vehicle manufacturers do is the same thing as me, just they put it in a pretty box & charge quadruple.

as a former tuber.... I'd venture that a spare set of rear isolaters (whatever they're called) and a drive belt would be the only truely unique maintainence items for the long long haul. that was for my x1.

interesting thread.

I wasnt really wondering this question as I was never able to get any buell parts in my home town anyways, this doesnt really bring up a new issue for me. I suspect many others will realize this as well.

After 4 years, 2 wrecks, countless oil changes....I havent bought a part for my XB at a H_D dealership yet......

COUGH! HACK! COUGH!!!!(grumbles, just ask american sportbike)COUGH!!!!!
