I have had gun pulled on me once, and a knife pulled on me twice. Being in fear of my life, I know that the outcome of those situations were decided in my favor because of my situational awareness and posession of a firearm. Neither time was a trigger pulled but, both times my finger was on the trigger (my decision at the time). For you 870 Owners, this is one GREAT product that really works: One place they can be found: http://www.impactguns.com/store/648018101441.html Time2Work Neil S. |

We're not talking about a user that plays with pistol every day. Simple is the key in an emergency. And 2 seconds is a lifetime or a deathtime in a gunfight. I did not work out with the gun every day, about once a week 150 rounds, 100~125 accuracy, 25~50 rapid fire / reload my thought is the first round usualy goes so dont miss .... BTW 15 rounds don't mean shit if you can't hit the target. I totaly agree with that, see above for the solution to cant hit the target, matches and practice weekly with a holster, 45acp, with lift compensator, mag well, extended mag release, ambi safetys, a national match 45 was my carry gun. personal best @25 Yds, from hands up 5 10" steel plates knocked down with 5 rounds 4.5 seconds drawing from a holster. practice makes perfect ..... or use a shotgun. The flash light is an excelent idea.. |

Like it was said before, you need to layer your defense. Proper lighting, and no bushes to conceal an intruder. Keeping your high value items away from public view. Proper locks. Dog. Security system, and other deturents to decrease a person's opportunity to break in. Then if that does not stop an intruder, having a reaction plan already in place that includes evacuating your family to a "safe haven" that includes a cell phone and battery powered lighting, and a strong lockable door. Then your final layer would be a properly trained and proficient person with a shotgun who is covered behind a bed corner. |

Speaking of flashlights.... When you are pushing 200+ lumens, strobe abilities and multi-hour run times, this light will fill your needs. Yeah they are a little pricey but when you compare them to the Surefires, they are priced low. Just call me a flashacholic! Get a revolver and shoot it before you have to put it to the test on somebody who is breaking in. You should talk to NRA instructors or get enrolled in a home defense class. Best thing for you and your wife. |

The Surefires have a great name and a great price tag. I have switched over to LED 100%. For the light output, variable intensities, different modes (strobe, beacon, SOS) and run time, LEDs can't be beat. Oh yeah and 50,000 hours out of the emitter that is shock proof. The Fenix brand offers this a real competitive price! I've got a Fenix TK40 coming for Xmas. 630 lumens out of eight AA batteries with over 120 mins run time with multiple levels and modes. It will almost replace my HID lantern I keep by the back door to spotlight the deer in the back ac. Speaking about reaching out to touch someone!!!!!!!!!! Heck I fire that mother up and the dogs jump! |

THe DS5 is 140 lumens for 1.75hr The Quark Turbo AA2 is: 206 lumen for 1.3hr 85 lumen for 5hr 22 lumen for 24hr 0.2 lumen (moonlight) for 30 DAYS! Plus throw in the strobe, beacon and SOS modes which do come in handy. If you want to dazzle and confuse, shoot 206 lumens someone's direction on strobe mode and they won't be able to see and, will have a hard time thinking. It REALLY irritates your eyes and brain. My ds has a strobe as well as lower settings of brightness. Wondering if it is better or just overkill. (Message edited by Doughnut on November 10, 2009) |

I've been seriously considering the Taurus Judge as well. Someone want to explain why it's illegal to own a short barrel, so-called "sawed-off" shotgun with pistol grip stock but the Taurus Judge is legal? |

Blake The law sez smooth bore the 410 is rifled for the 45 long colt so it is legal--- no longer a smooth bore |

Ps, it is not illegal to own a sawed off shotgun, you just have to get the Permit and pay the tax on it and play by the Federal and local laws relative to possessing it, provided your not in a prohibited person category. (Message edited by mikej on November 10, 2009) |

Each state is diffrent--federal law is 20 1/8 inch--with payment of special tax can be shorten to 18 inch I dont know if there is a legal way to make it shorter. |

Someone want to explain why it's illegal to own a short barrel, so-called "sawed-off" shotgun with pistol grip stock but the Taurus Judge is legal? Oddly enough in California it is perfectly legal to own a federal tax stamped C&R short barrel shotgun, but the Taurus Judge is considered an illegal assault weapon.} |

Nice way you pulled those numbers out of your ass too. "nine times out of ten" is a figure of speech. It was not meant to be an accurate statistic. |

The odds are in your favor but pretending that violence won't happen to you is just another form of gambling, possibly with your life and the lives of your most beloved ones. I know violence could happen to me. I don't gamble. I take reasonable precautions. But in my day to day life I just don't feel the need to be armed. I never feel threatened all that much. I think that people who do feel threatened and feel that they need to be armed, generally attract violence more than they repel it. Feeling threatened is a sign of insecurity and insecure people tend to lash out at shadows and odd noises, thereby making people around them feel insecure. Violence begets violence. |

Well, I guess I could reconsider the bumper sticker I put on the wifes car... But I did it for my own protection... It reads "Unarmed driver carries LARGE sums of CASH!" I'm sure it will someday save the rest of my life. |
