I'd have liked to see a some Uly's doing some trails, and have the video bounce back and forth from the 40's bikes to the Uly's or something to that effect.

Who's here is a director?? lol.

Marissa does a great job of diverting attention away from Buell being shutdown, York possibly being closed, etc...

after checking out the new ads on HD's site, the rider's edge photo seems to be of all buells. an x1 and an s3 at least.

I like the look of the new ads, but still don't want to buy a harley.

Typical Harley cashing in on our kids. When I was deployed in the 80's we all craved anything from home and I can not see it being any different today and harley being the only bike available to the kids on that I am guessing. The overpriced slow and heay crome cow gets top billing nice job H-D. take advantage our our kids

I left a note on the Harley facebook page when they showed up on my wall. It said "so Harley Davidson is firing motorcycle engineers and hiring supermodels? Is that what the company has come to?".

Harley Davidson is on it's way to becoming a clothing line and sub prime finance company.

Wow. So Marisa Miller doesn't convince you that you should buy a Harley? After checking out the link above, I'm wondering what time the dealership opens today so I can go check out the red FLH from that add. I guess you guy's don't like puppies either?

For what they spent on that ad campaign, they could have hired someone with a freakin' education to split Buell off from Harley and sell them.

and had money left over, not to mention what the price for Buell would bring in?

Harley's advertising campaign seems to be in line with their board of directors which is dumb, dumb, & dumber!

If Harley doesn't get their act together soon, I'm afraid that the USA is going to loose another motorcycle manufacture.

"

Buell was not making money, how much do you think H-D could have gotten for a company not making money?

"Harley's advertising campaign seems to be in line with their board of directors which is dumb, dumb, & dumber! "

H-D is dumb for dropping a company who's bikes even in good times sat on the dealer floor for 2-3 years in some places to concentrate on their core business?

"If Harley doesn't get their act together soon, I'm afraid that the USA is going to loose another motorcycle manufacture."

You do know that even in these tough economic times Harley is still selling more bikes here than any other brand, I doubt they are going anywhere.

" Buell Motorcycles, on the other hand, made $123.2m in revenues, or 2.2% of corporate revenues."

Seems like they made money to me.

Looks to me like you're more of a H-D fan than a Buell fan

Also seems to me that you think H-D antiquated, same old same old, shit bikes are the wave of the future.

I think it's f%cking hilarious that H-D is trying so hard to cling to the past and trying to appeal to a dying market.

I can't believe people buy into the shit spewing from H-D marketing.
Time for Willie G. and all the other dinosaurs in that company to step aside
They are ALL obsolete.

Comment I left - I realize no one at H-D cares what I think, but I felt better for saying it....

To me, Buell represented real American innovation, technology, and style, good enough to be judged against any other manufacturer in the world. Buell, not Harley-Davidson, evoked patriotic feelings in me.

My Grandad would have loved these new ads. Trouble is, he isn't buying bikes anymore.

"Buell was not making money"
Has anybody got any actual numbers to show how much Buell were or weren't making?

"how much do you think H-D could have gotten for a company not making money?"
How much money was MV making when H-D bought it for $109M plus $70M of debt?

I've got nothing against MM or this style of campaign, if that's what H-D wants to do, cool. (I quite liked the V-Rod Muscle poster with MM). But imagine if they'd put the same effort into marketing Buell? (Note I mean the same effort, not same style of campaign.)
The announcement of "Military Appreciation Month" and "Women Riders Month" seem like good emotional smokescreens at the moment. Or maybe I'm just being cynical?

How much is Harley making if they don't sell them? Weather Buell made money or not if you aint using it its worthless if you sell it the name becomes a cash cow.So the whole thing is smoke and mirrors and makes no sense

Just want to draw a slight distinction between "REVENUE" and actual "PROFIT".

Just because they generated revenue does NOT make the company profitable.

I don't have real numbers, but you can't just say "See? Revenue! There ya go!" and be done.

I mean, I WISH we could! If I could keep all my revenue? What a great world.

Damn bill collectors don't sign on to my way of thinkin' though.

Harley has a LONG history with the military. A lot of the early Harley riders were soldiers returning home. They produced military bikes. Vets ride Harleys. And a lot of Harley riders have kids currently deployed overseas. If they can help send a message of thanks to the soldiers, why wouldn't they? If it also helps raise Harley awareness overseas, and potentially gets some new riders on Harleys, would that be SOOOOO terrible?

But I don't think it's really about that. I don't think, short of reopening Buell, ANYTHING they do will be given a fair shake around here. Everyone's still too pissed off.

Motorcycle companies have used women to advertise their bikes since, like, they had bikes to sell. Also - cars, trucks, perfume, clothes, shoes, blah blah blah. It's fairly standard stuff. They tried to add a twist and maybe make some soldiers feel better too.

Freakin' jerks. What were they thinking??

"They tried to add a twist and maybe make some soldiers feel better too."

Advertising will make the Soldiers feel better? I doubt it. Maybe just horny.

Got a better plan for H-D to make them feel better.
Give them a FREE bike when they return, rather that try and sell them a overpriced road couch.

Again, I can the conflict, being what you do for a living and all.

Starting to think you don't even know the whole promotion.

We are giving out postcards for people to mail. If they don't know anyone, we're collecting personalized postcards from our customers and employees and sending them overseas to send a message of thanks to the soldiers.

So, ah, THAT'S what I was referring to when I said "Make some soldiers feel better".

Also, every dealership has a flag that they can send. We're having our customers sign that too and plan to send it overseas, probably to the son or daughter of one of our HOG members.

Again, Harley folks are such jerks. I'm sure soldiers don't appreciate getting cards from home at all.

And your comment about giving away overpriced road couches only further proves my point that nothing they do will ever be met with anything other than complete disdain by you.

So why argue.

I am old an school Buell gal. What I didn't really understand about the video of MM is how can she say her ad supports military WOMEN, unless she is refering to the large Lesbian population in the armed forces...

I am not gay myself, but I do like the photo with her ass hanging out of her uniform...

Anything GENUINE to support our troops both active and retired is good with me, unless there is a disingenuos motive behind it... as there is with this AD Campaign... it is all about HD Co executives making more money...

Anyhow, that is my two cents worth... I posted it because I think it exploits and cheapens the tantamount importance of our service members...

I'm not arguing. I'm using the right given to me by the soldiers by exercising my right to say I think H-D are overpriced piles of shit. Nothing has changed by what happened to Buell to make me think different. I never liked Harley bikes.
Just not my style. Never did I say I didn't like Harley riders. I have a lot of them in my Family. I do, however, have nothing nice to say about H-D, the corporation. I don't hate the dealers either.
Cards to soldiers I'm sure will be appreciated by them.
You can take what I say anyway you like. I'm not here to defend myself from anyone about anything I say.
Harley Davidson is doing NOTHING new or innovative. My opinion.

The other people this ad apeals to maybe is the rock-a-billy crowd. Not sure if that's the right word but 50's style tattooed people. Take A look at the girls on motorcycle thread. And the fact that we're all discussing it proves it works. Doesn't make me want A harley, but it sure does make me look at the ads...
