I know it's a little early, but anyone here interested in this? I haven't been there in a few years. I know there is a plan to do a Homecoming in 2010, so I'll wait so the dates don't conflict. Just something to think about. Would be cool to get a large group down there to show that Buell may be gone, but, no way in hell, forgotten.

Oh I am so In on this one !! I live about 2 hour east of the Dragon and I love the area and the roads. Did you also know there is a great casino 40 mile from the dragon !!! The Dragon and all the roads in that area are just great for Buells. Let me know if I can help organize this in any way, I would love to hang out in the hills with my Buell brothers and sisters !

Just throwing this out there, but March Badness and Buelltoberfest in Suches, GA both have groups that head to the Dragon. Buelltoberfest will likely still be in Suches, but March Badness may change location and/or dates.

I got a great idea, lets go when it warmer ! I have been on the Dragon several times and it suck when its cold and wet. I got lucky and went the fist weekend in October and it wasnt bad, a tick chilly but not bad. Any date before mid April is edgy with the weather. Oh by the way, if you cant tell I hate cold weather.

My $.02...

Buy some good rainsuits, and pack them well with some good camping provisions.

Good tires are required, use them well and head home, to plan the next trip.

I'm a local.

Dragon III

There's already a Buell event planned for April 16-18 at The Dragon. We will be staying at the ironhorse campground www.ironhorsenc.com. Hope y'all can make it. This will be the third year for this event and it's been a blast the last two years.

Great. Well I guess since it's already planned, I'll just kill my thread here.

I mean, what the hell? There can't be more than one event taking place in a location?
What if the dates you have planned don't work for people?
They don't for me. I was thinking late summer. But I don't want to overshadow already planned events with different dates, so I'll just say have a good time.
I'll just ask the local Buellers I know if they want to go. No sense in involving more people I guess.

I'm sorry the dates don't work out for you. There's already been a good response. This is the third year and each event has been good so I see no need to stop now.

Dragonslayer, not to be offensive or anything, but where on the BadWeB is your "Dragon Ride" listed/promoted? I just went down thru the Storm Fronts and didn't see anything posted, unless it's "inside" one of the local threads.

I'm sure if others had seen it, we'd have been more than happy to join in on your ride. Obviously, no one else saw it either, so they decided to organize a ride of their own.

Can't say that I've even seen anything posted from the prior 2-3 years...

I'll be going to Knoxville the first w/e in May for work and may have to take my new Buell along : )

I was waiting 'til the end of the month, but we're close enough now. The first year there was an invite. Someone else made it so I don't know where it is. Last year I didn't get the word out like I should have (my bad). No offense taken. If some want to plan another ride of their own, that's OK, they're free to do so. I was just pointing out that there IS a ride planned and that everyone is welcome. It is not a BadWeb ride, NO forum is getting any kind of credit. In '08 it started out as an event from a particular forum, there was some conflict of opinions. I wanted this event to be about Buell owners owning the curves and having a good time, not trying to make any forum better than another.

I'll start posting some advertisements. If folks can make it that would be great. If not, maybe they can in 2011 for "Dragon IV"

Same deal. It doesn't say Badweb at the Dragon....it says Buell. Never do I plan a ride out that's board specific. Hell, it doesn't even have to brand specific. However, this being a buell forum and me riding a buell kinda makes it name itself.

I'm thinking August. But am waiting for any Homecoming news first.

Again, it's early as hell, and I'm just offering options.

Dragonslayer,
Last year's Slay the Dragon was mentioned by me also but there was no response. I went but crashed on the way (yes, I was the one) and ended up staying away from the group as I was in too much pain. Badwebbers last year didn't seem that interested in a rally that was organized by another Buell forum. Unfortunately due to my accident I decided to stay in Kansas next year where we have NO mountains, only a few hills and curves. I'm sure that Dragon III will be loads of fun for all those who attend. Good luck and keep the rubber on the road and don't imitate me.

That sucks, I hope you're healed up and doin' better.
When this started it was organized under the name of another Buell forum. Later I felt it shouldn't be about any forum, only about Buell riders. The admin didn't agree. (It wasn't Buelletinboard or BuellXB). Anyway, that's all in the past and Dragon III will be 100% neutral when it comes to forums. It's only about Buell and having fun on these great roads. Of course other bikes can come too. Some guys wanted to bring a friend and their friend had another brand, not a problem at all.
We just made the guy on the non-Buell go on a beer run when we ran out.

Bingo!

I've hosted the Res Ride the last 3 years that guys have come from other forums as well, some not even Buell forums. We get together to enjoy riding and camaraderie, plus if you throw in a little BBQ, guys will come a long way!

Thanks. I suffered 3 injuries plus my pride. There was a fractured vertebrae in my neck, bruised ribs, and a broken collar bone. All healed except my collar bone and it is and will stay broken. The break is such that without surgery it can't heal and since I had radiation therapy 22 years ago for cancer the bones there aren't stable enough to guarantee proper healing of a bone graft. The surgeon told me that if I can live with it as it is now then just leave it alone. At 62 y.o. I'm just going to leave it. Due to what happened last year (and I still don't know exactly why I left the road) I just can't justify the risk of riding the Dragon again. It is just too dangerous for someone like me who has little experience riding in the mountains. Ya'll have fun and be safe. I'll dream about what it would be like to ride the Dragon again.

Ulykan,
Go as a passenger it could be even more exciting.

Me & my wife did the gap three times on our 'wing and I did one stint as a passenger. Very exhilarating.

I'm sure that it would be VERY exciting but due to the fact that I crashed on the way TO Iron Horse and then wound up limping the rest of the way with my damaged bike and badly damaged body I'm going to stay on the flat lands of Kansas. I'm guessing that exhaustion played a big part in my crash and as much as I'd like to prove to myself that I can still ride the curves like I used to, the danger is too great. To chance my fate a second time just is too risky. You younger guys have fun and at my ripe old age of 62 I'll just stay safe. I did complete the Dragon but it wasn't what I expected and certainly not the way I wanted to ride it. If I felt comfortable with my abilities I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I believe the long journey from Kansas took its toll on me as that's the only explanation I can come up with. I don't remember anything prior to leaving the pavement and was jarred awake by being off the road then the next thing I knew I went down. Luckily it was in an area with enough dirt and no trees or valleys. Thanks for the suggestion though. Have fun.

I'm in just say when!

When did the "it's not XXXXX brand so I don't want to see it" come onto this board? MOst Buell owners I have had the pleasure of meeting don't really care what you ride, and usually admire a good bike that is ridden properly. That being said i might be on my Z or my Lightning!

Ulykan, just so you know, there is soooo much more in this neighborhood of the Great Smoky Mountains than the Dragon. Most definitely it is cool fun, ya get your sticker and shirt for sure, but there are so many roads with such beautiful views and such great pavement to use up.

PM me if you are going to get back to the area. If timing works out I will be happy show you what I mean. The speed limit on the Dragon is 30 mph. If you are going to be there, especially with the problems you were facing, just ride your own pace, stay to the right in your lane, and avoid it when the children are at play. So many people get so excited by being there the first time they feel the need to go over their head. It is a lot of turns for anyone not used to them. Sometimes a rookie there will be so excited they will act like they have met Elvis and get big stars in their eyes.

This past week I took my wife on her 'Blastulys', and her parents on their Goldwing trike, that he got for his 80th birthday, for a 220 mile loop that did include the Dragon. It was a most excellent ride. For once I got to see the surrounding vistas and more of the actual beauty of the area. Usually I have some sort of intense focus on riding thing going on. It is too great an area to miss by only focusing on the Dragon!

whenever any of you from north of TN, decide to make the trip to the Dragon, send me a message and let me know if you are coming down I-81 thru Bristol...you need to make time to ride over to the "snake" US 421 thru Shady Valley into Mountain City. www.shadyvalleycountrystore.com
